    Welcome back.
The animate objects that you will witness this weekend in every seat at the Ralph are people. Real live people, actual fans.
You can remember what those were, eh?

    LOL!!!

I am so cheap. I'll probably just listen to Wally & Frank on the audio stream. I need to make the road trip up there again. It has been so long. But I may not be treated well up there!

  2. I don't think the story here is about UND or MN.... All MN cares about is tickets sold, unfortunately..... But both have been steady for quite sometime. It's all about Wisconsin dropping like a rock.

3 years ago they averaged just over 15k.

2 years ago they averaged just over 13k.

Last year they we around 11.7k.

Now they have dropped to 9.5k.

Now I know they had some outdoor games to inflate the average in the past as well as a few games at the Dane to bring numbers down this year. But they are clearly in trouble if this trend continues.

  3. The last hockey game at the Target Center was a regular season game between MN and UW in March of 2010...

For media types, the Target Center is just awful. The pressbox is tiny compared to the X. It's literally 1/8th the size. So I am guessing that they would need to make a special press area in the upper deck in order to accommodate the team reps and the media. I know that the MN radio broadcast was from a table at the top of the lower section during that game, whereas they would usually have their own room at the X.

For the fans though... I don't really think it will be that bad. Sure it won't have the comforts of the X, but the location should more than make up for that.

  4. I believe Fox sports covers Denver already and I don't see them dropping Wisco anytime soon since they will have the same situation as the Goofs.

FSN no longer covers UW Hockey, they dropped them a few years ago. You do still see UW games on FSN, but they are not FSN productions. They just pick up the local channel feed.

  5. I read that Joel Maturi said that the Gophers will still have their hockey games on Fox Sports North when the Big Ten Network isn't broadcasting a Gopher game. So it would appear that FSN is going to remain similar to how it is now.

This is correct. In fact, since the BTN came online a few years back, they have had first choice on all Gopher games. Once they are done picking those games, FSN can pick up anything else.

  6. Oh I know . . . but I just can't cheer for the UMtc. Is it Mafia Man who has a signature something like " I'd rather cheer for Russia vs Team USA in 1980 than cheer for the %$^ *#*$@ Gophers".

Wow.... That's pretty negative "Upper Deck". And I thought I was making headway in bringing you over to the dark side. :):D:glare: :glare:

  7. By crew, I believe it was meant camera, production, etc. The camera guy that sits by us told us he does Wild games and really likes covering the Final Five due to the passion. He basically said Wild games are snoozefests compared to the FF.

We could only hope that the broadcast team isn't Frank "The Rug" (Wooger is okay for a Pat Summerall-like, sometimes lucid perspective)

Yes there is some crossover with a few camera guys. It all depends on who is available. But for the most part it's a Gopher production with the staff, producers, director and talent.

  8. According to what I've read (and seen), the games will be in HD

(the games will be produced by the same folks that do the Wild and not the guys who do the Goofer games...thats why they are in HD)

The Final Five is always done with Gopher crew. Same camera guys. Same producer. Same everything. The only thing that is different is that Jim Rich and Darby Hendrickson will call the afternoon games on Friday and Saturday. At least I think Darby will be the color guy.

  9. Truth be known....

I actually changed the banner on GPL myself to Bulldog Puck Live. With the season we are having, we needed something to make us laugh. I have no problem sabotaging my own site to get people to relax. As for the UMBPB site, I have helped DrunkHockeyGuy out administering his site in the past. Which gives me full access. So I used that access to install a new "theme" for the site. I kept it up for a day and then changed it back this morning.

Here is what it looked like when it was up.

    Pink UMD Penalty Box Site

This is the third time I have messed with his site during UMD/UM week. I am guessing it will be the last. :D
