Guess it's just the way the cookie crumbles.  Just a little hard to understand how 2 teams with basically the same resumes and the one that lost the head-to-head (badly) gets the weakest opponent in the field and we got probably the toughest of any team that didn't get a home game.  Not to mention SIU and Youngstown got very easy matchups.  Guess it's bad luck being on the western side of the field.

The NCAA doesn't allow rematches in the first round so they could not send Drake to UND and regionalization in the first round left NDSU as the only possible opponent for Drake.

UND should stay where they are.  They belong in that lower division.   Nothing wrong with that.  The NCAA should quit pretending it is D1 and recategorize it as D2.

The cowardly Bizon should move to FBS.  They have been playing at that level for quite a few years beating up on lesser D2 opponents and strutting around.  Time to man up and finally bring North Dakota an FBS program.  There is no honor in what they are doing.

They'll never get to Stovokor that way...

Which conference is going to invite NDSU?

  3. The Bison faithful (along with MSUM, Concordia, UND, etc.) will be downtown making ESPN look good.

With all of this complaining, ESPN has to be surprised and regretful that they picked this location. Here's an ag related reference for NDSU: Don't look a gift horse in the mouth!

  4. Last year's Sagarin rating had the Bison rated similar to a middle of the pack in the SEC as the #35 team in the country and ahead of every team in some FBS conferences.

kiper said on espn radio this morning that NDSU could play in any FBS conference including the SEC and not be a cellar team  I don't know if I would go that far yet. but they are damn good. didn't their men's bb team knock off a top 15 wisconsin team a few years back. I would put that win as bigger beings kstate isn't going to be as good as they were last year. also their FB team's win at montana back about ten years ago could be considered a bigger win as at that time they were truly playing up a division and it was their fist win against an upper division team and started to pave the way for their D1 move.

  5. I'm a Bison fan and give Jimmy his props. The only Bison player with a similar career I've seen play is Tryone Braxton who also played 13 seasons and was in 5 Superbowls. Steve Nelson was a little before my time.

  6. Was Roger Maris a good basketball player? He returned 4 kickoffs for touchdowns in one game at Shanley and obviously was a good baseball player. From what I've read, he decided college wasn't for him although he did have interest from Oklahoma.

  7. I'm a Bison fan who thinks this whole nickname controversy is lame.

Why not call yourselves the Pioneers? It would honor the settlers from the east and Europe who replaced the native populations. I just hope it's some made up name like river dragons.

  8. During the transition years, I would get excited about playing any Division I non-conference game since scheduling is a big headache.

Bison fans get exciited about scheduling a meaningless non-conference game against the Gophers... not me. Besides, if the name changes it becomes a moot point as the Sioux would no longer exist at that point in time.
  9. It's good to know that Sioux fans (at least some of them) are rooting for the Bison. Don't take it personally if we swear at the inevitable announcer/columnist/opponent who refers to North Dakota State as "North Dakota" like it is huge insult. :silly:

  10. I don't see Portland State football going anywhere soon. (I live 12 miles west of Portland.) It seems like they are just trying to generate the same buzz present when Pokey Allen was the coach and they made it to the D-II championship game (and lost to the Bison.) With all of the transplants from California living up here, it would be very hard to compete with the PAC-10 crowd when there are 3 PAC-10 teams within 3 hours of Portland.

  11. I can't find any numbers for the Mid-Con championship, but the 1st round games in March Madness last year pulled in mostly 7 and 8 ratings while the highest ratings for the hockey championship are in the 0.5 to 0.9 range.

BTW, I'd love to see the Bison-Sioux rivalry start up again. If we end up in different conferences, it would make for one exiting season opener.

One trip to the "Big Dance" in basketball would be bigger than any national exposure from a hcokey national championship the Sioux or any hockey team would get. I'd be willing to bet the Mid Con Final on ESPN this week had higher ratings than the Frozen Four last year.

  12. I guess it is time for UND to move up to D-1 -- NDSU just set a new home attendance record.

I was at the game today. Great day to get rolling into the playoffs. However, the crowd size was embarassing to say the least. Is there really that much goin on right now that we couldn't pull more than 5,073 people in there (smallest UND F-ball crowd in Alerus Center history). I understand, a more formidable opponent might would have made the crowd better, but damn man!
  13. Fargo was also larger than Grand Forks before the interstate highways, athough it has been growing slightly faster since then.

    Population in 1950 (pre Interstates)

    Fargo 38,000 G.F. 29,000

Population in 1990 (last decade before the flood)

    Fargo 74,000 G.F. 50,000

Warmer climate? Tropical breeze? Beautiful vistas? :silly:

Could it be the same reason that NDSU didn't get into the BSC? Geography. The confluence of the interstates has been the impetus for the growth of Fargo.

  14. Perhaps the Big Sky will give up on the large media markets. I live near Portland and the write-up of the PSU/Montana game was buried near the back of the sports section in The Oregonian.

...They are also interested mostly in the fickle dream that if they add a subpar school next to a major metropolitan area that they are going to have an instant jump in interest towards the BSC. Didn't happen with Sac State and didn't happen with Portland or Washington.

For those whom are truely lost and don't realize how much of a car salesman Fullerton really is, please spare yourself and wake up.

    ???

BTW, student body size doesn't matter in regards to media markets. PSU has more students than Oregon or Oregon State and is in a metro area that has about 1/3 of the state's population.
