  1. If we should only look at UND grads the following should have never been hired, or even been interviewed:

    Roger Thomas - Augustana

    Rich Glas - Bemidji State

    Dave Gunther - Iowa

    Gene Roebuck - Mayville State

and can you believe they hired a Gopher to run the Sioux program

    Dean Blais - Minnesota

And one more for perspective: Rob Bollinger - Dickinson State.

I'm most concerned about these arbitrary "five years of ..." or "demonstrated history of ..." hurdles put into job descriptions. If someone only has a "demonstrated history of" whatever for four years that disqualifies them?

    Hire the most qualified candidate.

Based on my knowledge of who has applied (admittedly only from the Herald) I still say Gordie Stafford or Steve Johnson have the best track record of program building. And that's what UND needs right now.

How can you say that Gordie Stafford has the best track record, because he coaches a high school hockey team or because he has a son in the NHL? He has no experience coaching Division 1 hockey.. High School Hockey and Division 1 hockey is at two different levels, if you ever get a chance to watch a female high school hockey game you would be bored out of your mind the hockey is terrible, especially in the states... anyone could coach that level... I am dissapointed the administration did not work harder to attrack some top name Divsion 1 coaches that have head coaching experience and would be able to step in a work, not find their footing over a year and then take pace... there are a lot of top coaches out there that could have been looked at over 3 candidates that are clueless, and one has been out of female hockey for 3 years with no clue what recruits are at the top of the game..... that would put the program behind further...I am just dissapointed

  2. Interesting. First I've heard of Akil Adams in a long time.

I wonder if a Stafford hiring might change the minds of the Lamoureauxs.

Do you really think that Akil Adams has a chance? It is the first we have heard of him in years.. just because he played for the Sioux does not make him a valid coach... and just because you coach a high school team.. with all the best players on it.. does not make you a great coach... Should be interesting.. Akil Adams.. Seriously!

  3. He's an assistant? I thought he was head coach out there. Interesting.

HE is Associated Head Coach, not assistant coach.

I think they already know who they are going to hire.. if they have been doing their homework, which would be smart

  4. You go watch the practices???

the last four games have been amazing.....

the practices have been productive and their finally improving.

    This weekend is ours.

All we need is an amazing coach for next year!

  5. Miller still isn't making any friends in the local media. link. Strange, to say the least.

Well I guess if he does not say anything to the media there is nothing for us to tear him up on here.... except for maybe their losses....

  6. I thought we started in 2001 and the WCHA in 2003

Minnesota Started I think in 1998...?

yes and by the time we started Minnesota already had 5 olympic players on their team and we had 21 freshman that were no where near olympic status.

  7. According to Kevin Fee, Miller isn't exactly going out of his way to accommodate the media. link.

Give the Guy a break he just started... trying to get things going.. his team in order and all we can do now is complain about him... come on people give the guy a chance... he has one other coach, all the recruiting, and trying to get his team to win a game is not the easiest of tasks... plus write a stand up show...WOW

Lets just sit back and watch what he does....

  8. Read the highlighted portions of your own statement. How can you be torn if you believe what you said? We have the nicest arena and training facility in the nation, yet we can't get top notch women players to commit to UND. It just might have been the coaching staff.

    Forest/trees ... nose/face ...

From all of this the change has been made, nothing to be torn by. It is over time to move on. But the one thing I am interested in seeing is if the players are now going to be willing to take accountability for their actions. They no longer have the ability to blame it on the coach, and no coach that comes into this program that is going to sit back and be blamed... it will be interesting to see if the players have what it takes to take it to the next level with out having something to fallback on with blaming Rivard...

  9. While I agree that it was a classless act that shouldn't of happened, I can understand where she was coming from. A coach, if doing well, gets a lot of the glory, and if doing poorly, shoulders a lot of the blame. I never met Rivard but will assume she is a nice person, but she absolutely destroyed this program. I was worried about the direction of the program ever since she lost control of the team when Jessica was still there. The first thing I thought of was "What did Rivard do to piss off an entire team?" I don't think a coach loses control of a team for small petty reasons. These girls want to be competitive and when they are regressing year after year while getting good recruits it is the coaches fault. Even after that class left and it was all youngsters they still got worse.

I also heard rumors though that Rivard didn't have a lot of respect for some of her players and favored some well letting others go. I know one of the big things was when I believe it was either last year or the year before she dropped the senior goalie from the team for being late to practice once, and this was on senior day when her parents had flown in, and in front of the entire team. Some may say you deserve this for being late, I view it as a bit extreme. To add something to it, other girls were always late while receiving no punishment. When you drop someone for personality reasons that some of the girls on the team like, and the team is getting worse already, there will be backlash. When a coach doesn't know the basics of coaching it shows on the ice I give her credit for starting the program, but thats it. As a head coach you are the "manager" of the team, and it is quite obvious she failed at that. Good luck to her, and hopefully this programs will find the right person and get back on track.

fightingbooya, I agree with you about being a manager of the team. I don't think we should bring up internal issues because none of us truly know what went on with that episode, because I have heard different about that episode, so right there is shows that stories are out there and none of us truly know what went on. I agree that she lacked some qualities that a good coach needs, and in taking on a coaching role you are putting yourself out there for criticism that none of us have to go through on a daily basis because we are not in professional roles like that. I do not believe that any individual deserves to be treated in that respect, especially from an individual whom my daughter greatly looked up too the past 4 years and I had to some how explain to her what that sign meant that Kovacevich was holding up, to me I have lost all respect for Kovacevich, which I once held great respect for.

  10. Only if he wanted leverage against Mercyhurst. He's currently running the #1 program in the nation. Apart from sentimentality or contract leverage, why would he?

I think his ship has sailed.

I think UND should try to swipe an associate head coach from a successful program such as UMD, UMN, or UW.

Well Colontino is a successful associate head coach working with the #1 team in the nation???

  11. Colontino's Mercyherst team is #1 in the nation right now. And word out of Pennsylvania is that he's recruited an unbelievable class for next year. If he was named the next coach at UND, the Lamarouex twins would sign on the dotted line tomorrow.

My Vote is Colontino... I wonder if he would ever apply??

  12. I would agree with the both of you on this one.

    SIOUX FAN SINCE 1973.

P.S. GO GATORS NEXT MONTH I'll BE IN AZ TO WATCH THE BIG GAME WITH A TON OF FELLOW GATOR ALUMS. LIKE MYSELF.

I agree as well.. Paul Colontino would have been awesome right now.. too bad both there assistants left last year... Looks like Colontino is in a good place right now... maybe he will apply for this position once he wins a NCAA Championship.... can only hope right??

  13. What I am disgusted by was attending the game on Saturday and seeing the Former Sioux Captain Jessica Kovacevich with a blatantly rude sign directed at Coach Rivard. It just in a way goes to show what type of class Rivard was working with and if she had to deal with someone like that for 4 years she should feel happy to be getting out. That was a classless act on Kovacevich... she really needs to grow up and move on... Thank god the security guard had the nerve to get rid of that sign...

I don't disagree with the athletic departments decision and hopefully the girls can get past this....and start looking for some positives....

  14. I'm sure you've got a lot of dirt but for once I'M (SiouxMeNow - famed crusher of anything ndsu :) ) trying to take the high road here ;) I assume there's no long-term contract here and they're probably stuck for this season. The SAD part of that is hiring a new coach, restoring credibility and recruiting good players is going to be a multi-year process...I'm afraid we're in for at least a couple more years of this....

BY THE SOUNDS OF IT WE SHOULD HIRE THIS SO CALLED "GREENE" THEY SOUND LIKE THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT ;)

  15. Sorry HockeyMom I did quote the wrong post....sorry

I think you quoted the wrong post......and the person that I believe you should have quoted was replying to someone asking whether or not they were kidding about RPI being in Canada.

  16. You could see the avatar walking over to pick up a puck on the highlights that they showed for the women's team on Sioux Sports tonight.

I think you are miss reading this. The person was talking about playing Duluth.. in order for the Sioux Women to become the best they have to beat the best refering to Duluth not RPI.....

The Women played good this weekend. Hard to tell that they have that many freshman out there playing. The freshman they brought in are above the level the seniors went out on... that is what I believe anyways... their goalie looked good...kept them in the game.... would never have pulled those wins off last year.. the girls actually played hard throughout the whole game.. no lack of efforts the team use to get last year...

Congrats to the team...keep working hard!

  17. Per the first two, it is nice to see some positive support around here and those who appear to be more plugged into the truth than others propose they are. Let us put it all aside and see what happens this year. With plenty of support, who knows what'll happen.

Per fightingsiouxfan57, the games will be on 1440 AM. I have yet to hear who will be calling the games.

    Go Sioux!
