  1. Herbel had plenty of exposure playing for "AAA" (that team was hardly qualified to be a AAA team) and I don't see pro teams or college teams knocking on his door. If you want to go toe to toe with who is the better player (Wurden or Herbel) with an NHL scout, feel free to. Because by claiming Herbel was the best player in North Dakota that's exactly what you're doing.

It doesn't matter if he's going to Sioux City? Well apparently, Sioux City thought Danny Wurden was good enough to play in the USHL, while I have yet to see another USHL team pick up a player from North Dakota High School this season...

I won't be surprised to see Herbel play beyond high school (see Charlie Bair), but by saying Wurden wasn't the best player in the state your not only going against me, you're going against USHL, WCHA, and pro scouts around the country. Good luck.

I haven't seen either play(live), so I'm not about to judge who the better of the two are. I do think the point that knownothing was trying to make was that Mr. Hockey isn't selected based on who has the potential to be the best player, but who is currently the best. I've known of a few high school players that were drafted by the NHL, scouted by the USHL and WCHA(some of them didn't pan out), but that's based on a heck of a lot more than current performance.

  2. This is what I know.

Dad lives in Hazen-Beulah area. Mom lives in WEST Fargo. Kid goes to school at Fargo South. He is not playing now (but did play on the Elite II team), and will not start right away into the 2nd semester. His time isnt up until shortly after that time.

Are they divorcing? Dont know, but if they are it may have already been in the works.

My question. Why move to West Fargo, but have the kid sit out the waiting period, when the move could have been to the South area, and he could have played right away?

I did hear the coach is tough this year. If you get in trouble and cant play, he makes sure you are not involved in ANY school extra cirricular activities.

    Investigation complete.

Mom and Dad are still married and Mom makes the trip back to Hazen frequently. Tyrel is playing JV right now(scored his first goal against White Bear Lake?), and can move up(I'm not going to play coach and say he is moving up) after he sits out the mandatory 90 day period.

The move to West Fargo.........that is where Grandma lives and where they are currently staying. Whether or not it was West Fargo or the Fargo South area he would be ineligible(according to NDHSAA rules) to compete in varsity athletics unless both parents move from their residence. I do believe he could have gotten around this by applying for open enrollment before the deadline, and of course there are always special circumstances that can affect this(including divorce........hence, the rumor)

  3. I'm 100% positive the Kleins are not going to pack up and move to Minnesota, or ship their son off for his senior year. The only place Klein is going to go other than North, is the USHL or NAHL. I'm not sure if people understand how difficult it is to transfer schools that are not within say 30 minutes of eachother. You have to remember that these kids parents have jobs and they probably aren't going to just up and quit so there kid can play high school hockey somewhere else. Coincidentally, Grand Rapids has a Pepsi plant like one of these two kids parents work for I believe so that would have been the only logical possibility. Tyrel McBain from waaaaay west to Fargo South? I highly doubt it. It's been done but a player really has to be commited to the sport and the circumstances have to be near perfect. It's not going to happen. Besides I don't know why someone would transfer from a school where he had success to one where he might not even play varsity like Fargo South. If he really thinks he is not getting good enough coaching where he is now, his best bet would be to research the coach and program that does the most off ice workouts and what kind of practices they run. Thats how you develop. Not by jumping ship onto the team you think has the best chance of winning state the next year.

Normally people post things that they have knowledge on, or a topic they know something about. Otherwise they will look foolish claiming opinions they hold to be facts, when in all reality they are not facts.

I thought I'd post something I have knowledge on, or at least a topic I know something about. I know that Tyrel McBain from waaaaay west has looked into a transfer to one of the Fargo Schools(his grandparents live there). He is not unsatisfied with the coaching he is currently getting, but there are coaching changes taking place in Hazen that will effect the program. Also, Hazen graduates ten seniors off of this years team and is experiencing a problem in numbers that will greatly reduce his chances of success next year. He is a kid that has made the committments to develop himself in an attempt to be the best hockey player he can be and is not merely jumping ship to head to a team that may win state. Rather, he is attempting to better his opportunities to play hockey at a higher level. If the move happens, I think those of you in Fargo will enjoy watching him play for one of your Varsity teams.
