  1. I have a couple of the top one, one says in green letters, WCHA, and the other one say Home of Economy on the back.

That makes sense.  I'm pretty sure mine is a souvenir copy that I bought through Sioux Shop's website several years ago, so it has the standard WCHA reverse instead of the ad I assume was on all the real game pucks.

  2. The white one looks a little older, but the second one may have been used recently.  I know that design was used before the Fighting Sioux logo puck that I have, but I'm unsure if it was used after that during the nickname battle that had UND resuming use of "Fighting Sioux" after officially retiring it.  They guy I've been getting most of my information on NCAA game pucks lately isn't sure either: http://collegepucks.wix.com/college-puck-guide#!north-dakota/c1r2q

  3. Howdy folks,

I'm in the process of completing my WCHA pucks collection where I have official game pucks (or souvenir replicas) for each of the 12 member teams in the final year of the old era.  At the same time, I also want the last puck design for UND that proudly displayed the "Fighting Sioux" name and/or logo simply because of the history and tradition of that nickname.  I have two pucks that I think are the ones I want to make sure I hang onto, but I'm wondering if anyone can confirm this.  Please let me know.  Thanks.

  4. I just caught the first few minutes on the lounge TV (I am at work) and the color commentator...I'll refer to him as Bob...called us Notre Dame.

    :D

    GO SIOUX

If last year was any indication, they like to misidentify the teams from west of Buffalo, NY.

  5. I wasn't implying you personally, gopherz, I meant Gopher fans in general.

Frazee definitely had his critics, many of them quite vocal who'd cheer if he got pulled during a game, but the ones I've seen don't strike me as the type who'd cheer if he left with his tail between his legs like this mid-season, but we never know...

AZSIOUX, I'm personally unaware of anything that showed he wasn't trying this season. I know he got benched one weekend last season when he eased off the gas pedal during practice one week, but this year all indications I saw were that he was trying and for some reason just was not delivering.

  6. Its official. Frazee is gone.

Is there a press release somewhere? The rumors do seem to have a lot of substance, but I want to see something first.

i dont feel sorry for him one bit but do wish him luck. sounds like a lot of it is a jeff problem and thats his job to figure out. in order to be a solid goalie at a very high level your head better be in the right place!

I'm not entirely convinced that the struggle he has had in D-I can be pinned squarely on him, but admittedly the case for him doesn't look good. As I commented on GPL, he has great numbers with USA Hockey and, besides the long Bina goal, he seemed to do OK in his sophomore year with the Gophers and worked much harder in his player development and practice these last two years, but still the slump he had in his freshman year with the whole Blarney's thing distracting him and relying too much on the likes of Goligoski, Vannelli, and Johnson to be in front of him burning him this past year makes me wonder if D-I was really the best place for him to be and hope a change of scenery now entering the New Jersey organization will help him get his game back on much like when he went to Sweden for the 2007 WJC.

Either way, since it looks like he's packed his bags, now the search begins for goalies #2 and #3 in Minneapolis.

  7. Why are we comparing these two infarctions?? What Woog did was waaaay worse than Hak giving Adams the finger.

I'm not and I agree Woog's actions were worse. I'm comparing the 2-game suspensions.

EDIT: and if you read the article I linked, the 2-game suspension wasn't the only punishment our program got.

  8. i wonder if that suspension is was from the gophers or the wcha? probably makes a difference when being able to pratice and so forth

I'd have to look that up, but I think it came all the way from the NCAA since it was involving giving non-tuition money to a player at the time.

  9. So, harsh or not, what does this entail? Can't be on the bench? Can't be in the building? I assume he can still run practice for the next 2 weeks. It will also be interesting to see how the team reacts to this. Will Eades be in charge during the Pioneer games? Has any other major college hockey ever been suspended like this? Wow.

If I remember correctly, when Doug Woog was suspended about 10 years ago (1996?), he couldn't have any contact with the team whatsoever and Mike Guentzel was acting head coach for a week running practices, etc. Since UND is doing this internally, I don't know what it will exactly look like, but I'd imagine it would be similar to this, more or less.

  10. Gotta say I'm impressed with this list. Nice to see Gopher fans coming here and congratulating the Sioux.

    Thanks.

Real hockey fans know how to behave in someone else's house. I personally am equally impressed with the number of Sioux fans that came over to our board to give real, honest thoughts before, during, and after the game.

Gophers Live is making me laugh...a lot. It's sad really.

  11. Well at least it wasn't as ugly as it was last night. 6 goals in the second period- that had to hard to come back out for the 3rd period. Who was in goal for the Seawolves tonight?

Olthuis was in goal for AA.

Btw, last night there were only 4 for Minnesota in the second. 2 more came in the 3rd before the Seawolves scored their second.

  12. go bina go what a drunken tool.......

It's been a while since I've even looked on this board. Who the heck is this "Hextall" guy? ;)

Anyway, this really is a non-story. Underage drinking in college happened yesterday and it's happening today and it's going to happen tomorrow and it's going to continue until the mentality around alcohol among college students dramatically changes. The only thing that really does change is whether or not you get caught, so it 's not news that this kind of thing goes on.

While the Bina part of it is news, he's not OJ. He did make a bad decision, but seriously we're talking about a misdemeanor with a possible punishment 10 days. That's it. I've seen far worse that did not draw the attention of TV news cameras. Granted because Bina has celebrity, people are going to notice more, but seriously it just only needs a 1-2 minute segment to say what happened and what lies ahead.

I doubt very much that Bina will get the 10 days in jail. Being part of a DI program opens up options for reformative punishments that do not involve major disruptions in day-to-day life. Being a Sioux hockey player who had just fought his way back from a frightening injury has a lot kids in the region looking up to him, so he could speak to some of them about not drinking and driving with the "I made a mistake and I'm telling you so you don't do the same" speech. We saw it with John Scott at Michigan Tech and I can only assume something similar sans the suspension occurred after the Blarney's incident in Minneapolis as Don Lucia and the Minnesota coaching staff chose not to make the punishments public.

Bina could sit out a couple of games, but I don't think it's necessary.

Some of my compatriots, who where the word 'hate' is not an exaggeration, are delighted about the bad light being cast upon your program, but don't let them get under your skin. At the very least, do let them know they're getting under your skin. It only emboldens them.

Now that you've gotten a taste of what we went through over the Blarney's thing (I will not start or get drawn into a debate on which one is 'worse'), I'll let you in on a little secret: This may be a non-story, but the Media is after anything that'll keep people talking and raise their ratings. Seeing a 25-page thread on this subject encourages them to dig into this deeper and inflate it to way bigger than it is. Settle down about it and they'll go away a lot faster.

  13. The feeling I get is that both games will be come-from-behind wins for the Sioux. The first goal against BC will be from someone who hasn't had trouble finding the back of the net. If you're already down at that point, I'd say Stafford. If not, Spirko. The GW will be from an unlikely goal-scorer.

The Championship Game, probably against the Badgers, will require production from veteran goal-scorers, especially if facing Elliot. "Unlikely" goals aren't impossible, but will be improbable. I wouldn't be surprised if the game continues into overtime. If that's the case, Stafford will have the game-winner.

  14. I heard it was because "Hey! Sioux suck!" was the standard refrain used in that song when UND played at Minnesota.

Gotta keep Myles, Walt and Bernie happy.

Yeah, it's that one. I didn't want to type it here for fear of pissing off the hosts. It is unknown which part draws the objection whether it uses the work 'suck', which though the understood meaning is "being terrible" it also happens to be a word used to describe a shall we say more than intimate maneuver, or like the PC folks at the NCAA that it is tied to the name of a team which happens to draw its name from Native Americans. Both of which are silly reasons if either of them happen to be true.

  15. It gives more time to make arrangements, line up tickets, etc. Besides, if it was the same weekend as the basketball final four, they would be terribly disappointed in the turnout for that event.

I'd also imagine that it would have to do with rest. Some teams give everything they have and more at regionals just to advance to the Frozen Four. Short of injuries, it can take more than a week to fully rest up and to truly get back to full strength.

And if you were to point out that my team did not give much effort at REA last weekend far short of 'everything', that would...make me cry. I would cry. Don't make me cry.:sad:

  16. Please don't tell me they banned a song because the guy that made it famous was convicted as a child molester (in Vietnam).

None of my band friends nor I have heard anything specific yet, just that it was offensive for some reason and that you could hear our fans shout "Hey! You Suck!" or something else in TV broadcasts of our games. I only assumed it had something to do with something we were shouting. There was a whole thread over on GPL talking about it before I even knew what the name of the song was. Right now, that site is having some hosting issues, so any information that might provide insight is at least temporarily inaccessible.

  17. I agree with replacing the nickname with nothing IF it is "pulled." The fans of North Dakota are very passionate of their tradition. I believe, without a doubt, that the fans will do the "announcing" of the words "FIGHTING SIOUX" for the PA guy after he introduces the University of North Dakota (which has already been suggested on another thread, just thought I'd second that). This way, we're still the "Fighting Sioux," it just may not say that on the uniforms.

Sounds like the perfect reaction from a passionate fan base to give the finger to the PC folks if you guys find yourselves in that situation. We are in a similar, yet somewhat different, situation down here in the Cities. The PC folks, for some obscure reason without any public explanation, has banned our pep band from playing R&R II (that song you guys shout "Hey! Go Sioux!" to). It was so embedded into our fan cheers here that our fans sing it without our band, though it is less organized.

And this is just for a song. I can imagine a lot more happening for a team name.

  18. I wouldn't be surprise if there hasn't been any opting to remain optimistic about the appeals taking a page out of Churchill's book from the Battle of Britain, but has there been any serious talk among officials as to what new nicknames could possibly be used?

  19. I'll see what I can get you. I'm not sure if I got the whole UMich-UND game because of overtime from the HC-UMN. I'm running a couple of months behind on video highlights for the Gophers (still working on our CC weekend), so it might take a while.
