Arnason with another shutout
kelly{south} 2 shutouts in 3 games
-
you just figured that out? north/south tonight north too young south by 5
north isnt all that good either, south dominates and wins on running time
-
Shanely isn't all that good.
you just figured that out? north/south tonight north too young south by 5

Are you kidding me? One year that had to open up the balcony cuz there was so many people
It all depends on whose in it
Grafton usually brings the whole town so if they are in, u get a big crowd, RR and central usually bring most of GF if they play each other.
in 2002 there was over 9000 in attendance. the last couple years was just under 4000

Here are my STATE predcitions for the tourny
South Over Bis. Century
Grafton Over Minot
DL Over Bis. High
RR Over Williston
south has beaten grafton 3 times, twice easily, why would south not be in the final. I hope it is red river - south in final, it would be the most entertaining
Grafton Over South
RR Over DL
South for 3rd Place
RR gets Cocky loss to Grafton
But dont get me wrong i would like to see it stay in Grand Forks
so from a central student GOOD LUCK RED RIVER!!

North definitely outplayed WF tonight IMO.... First WF goal was scored on a PP, and 2nd one was on a 5-on-3... nice goals, but North was still short players so it was easier for them. Dan Zehren (North's goalie) had lots of awesome saves throughout the game! Great game by both teams, but North outplayed West Fargo and definitely deserved the win!
On another note, the refs SUCKED! I know I always say this, but I think North got at least 15 penalties, while West Fargo got maybe 3. And one of the refs fell, while absolutely nobody was around him, it was pretty funny!
But anyways, that's my 2 cents... I'll hopefully be up at the North/RR game on Friday, should be a good one!!
I do not agree that north outplayed west fargo. wf had many more quality chances but dont have anybody who can finish, if they did they would have won going away. north made good on their chances as they have some pretty good snipers. as far as the penalties go, north had more but that is typical of the way they play and that will not change. not the refs fault

Don't know.
But, here's another thought/question.
I have been to the ND state tourney and have noticed that the 2 hometown student sections have been very poor. RR has had a better one than central, but why the poor turnout?
the chants you hear in minnesota state tournament are usually between public and private schools, who hate each other because of recruiting and such. north dakota does not have any private schools that recruit so no hatred. shanley doesnt count

Both teams need to stay out of the box. Whoever has the fewest penalties will win the game. If south can use their size without getting penalized they might be able to wear down Moorhead. With 12 guys over 6ft. they are a big team, but can't seem to stay out of the box.
IMO, Moorhead has a slight advantage at forward, and an advantage a defense. Sounds like Moorheads goalie was finally tested on Tuesday and played well, but I still give the Bruins an edge with Deichert in the net.
I hope it is a 1-2 goal game. In past years Moorhead would score the first goal and you could see south deflate and say, "here it goes again". These seniors beat Moorhead last year and should not have that problem.
FYI, the coleseum can hold a lot of people, and I'd be surprised if it sells out. If it does it will be real loud in that tin can.
this game sold out (3500 +) last year at moorhead and I do not think the coliseum holds that many people so it will definitely be full, get there early. I do not think south can keep up with moorhead but should give them as good a game as others on their schedule so far. moorhead by 3 unless deichert stands on head.
south players will not be afraid of this team because of last year so that will keep it interesting.

what i wonder is what he gained from moving?
from what I have seen of him when he is available in January I do not see him playing any more than third line. hopefully he is just preparing for next year and he can help south in 2007

Lives-to-play-hockey must be the best player in the state either now or sometime in his playing career because I haven't read one positive thing come out of his mouth and from what I can tell his comments are foolish. The state is not down, every year people graduate and look back on the state and see boys playing that they were once better than. But without realizing it younger players do improve. I will agree there is not a whole lot of people I would have considered a Mr.Hockey candidate before the season, but a lot happens around the age of 18 and certain players can mature that were not once thought of as standouts, or the fact they might have been overshadowed as an underclassman and now have a chance to be a team leader. As for the state being down, there might not be a whole lot of standout seniors, but there is still a lot of talent across the state.

I totally agree with this post last year is done, let this group of players enjoy their season and you will be able to watch alot of fun and competitive hockey

Speaking of south's D. Is it unusual for a coach to only play 4 D-men per game, if he has more than that to dress?
not knowing for sure but I would guess well over half of the teams only use 4 defenseman until the game is in hand or penalties on one of the 4

there is a couple of games this week that will help clear up the status of the fargo schools. first tonight north will find out if they are for real and a contender when they play grafton. then saturday south hosts the #9 rated team from minnesota, white bear lake to find out how good they will be this year.
my prediction is fargo 0-2

How can you say no players in North dakota will even get to 40 points when players like Eric Meland from RR,Kyle Everson from DL and Zac Welding from J-town are still around. Everson has 2 hat tricks in his first 2 games and probably will have a 3rd coming up on thursday against Shanley. Welding had 4 goals and a assist in his first game alone. On top of that, Welding will be playing in the west which will make his points even easier. I would guess Welding with atleast 50-60 points figureing every pass his team makes is to him. They look for every shot to be off his stick. But don't get me wrong, you cant judge his skills by his points. He never backchecks and it shows. In DL the 2 centers welding was matched up with scored 3 and 2 goals. But yes i agree with everyone when they say OVERALL the states skills are down.
I would have to predict GPR over North. Graftons fowards will overwhelm north. I think if GPR were to have the worst D and goalie in the state they would still come away with a win over north. GPR's fowards will run over their fowards then fly by their D all night. I predict 6-1 GPR.
DL and Shanley thursday. Shanley is way down and DL is already better than they were last season. DL has a solid goalie and 2 very fast and impressive lines. THeir 3rd is shaky at times but they also seem to be able to get things done. In my opinion i think DL overall has the best D in the state. RR's 2 starting D are not comparable but DL has 4 strong smart and fast D. Shanley doesnt have much of anything but a lot of non-experienced sophmores. Shanley is building a team for next season. DL played with South last year at state and these are all the same kids but now they are better. May i remind you all of DL's goals scored at state were sohpmores, and one called off in the south game was also a soph. These kids will run with south and RR but will fall short. NO doubt will they suprise every team they play all season. 3rd in EDC. Thursday I predict DL 9-0 over shanley.
my take on south grafton is that souths first line neutralized graftons first line and made them look terrible as a poster said, south first line did not score much but kept them in check. so the difference was the the depth that south has over grafton which had the 2nd and third line scoring. a 6-2 victory is still a win and a convincing one at that so give a little credit to south since i think grafton still is the third best team in the state.

I believe Mr. Hockey is given to the senior who is considered the best student athlete in the state with the weight heavy on hockey skills. Is Mr. Hockey based just off high school hockey talent, or what exactly is the criteria? Are grades, misdemeanors, or any other factors involved in the process? -
One game doesn't mean much. Welding is a good player, don't get me wrong, but one game against a lackluster performance doesn't prove much. Charlie Bair had like 70 points his senior year and he didnt win Mr. Hockey. That went to Jake Marto. Keep that thing in mind.
Mr. Hockey Hopefuls (my opinion)
Zach Miller
Danny Wurden
Michael Hillman
Sean Diechert
Tyler Klein
Ian Powers (?)
if you put welding on 4 teams in the east he would not even be the best player on the team let alone mr. hockey, so lets dont get carried away here. he might score a ton of points in the west but check out what his success was last year

i got a quick question, when does that mcbain fella get to start playing for south? does he have to sit out at all?
I have heard he is not elegible to play until early january. he can play jv til then

Sorry to break up the topic thread but this HAS to be said:
ND Pride- THANK YOU for posting those tidbits on individual teams. As someone trying to get "into" the high school game, they really help get an idea of teams around the state. I appreciate it. Thank you.
I also appreciate nd prides work and am waiting for north, south and grafton reports. thanks in advance

if powers plays on a line with mcdougall and doeden i am sure they will do just fine and put up some pretty good numbers. if they are split up to even out the top two lines he probably wont score as many points as last year. but he probably will be on the power play which he wasnt last year which will help

This has probably already been discussed on here, but I have a nephew at Fargo South who says he has a kid named Tyrel McBain in one of his classes. This floored me, because I heard grumblings of his grandma living in West Fargo, so I could maybe understand him being at that school. Did his whole family move or is he going to have to sit out the transfer period, much like Brett Spooner did a few years back with Grafton.
I have heard, but dont quote me, that he will play junior varsity until january then will be able to play
-
the flyers must be playing the raiders and the sugarkings and wheatkings in a new high school league
-
I also believe devils lake would be much better off staying where they were with alomost guaranteeing to be in the state from the west, but probably not even making it out of the east
-
I do not recall that particular defenseman being hammered on last year, the north player who was did bring it on himself with a little to much self promotion on this site.
I don"t understand why everybody is talking about souths backchecking, why is there concern? from what I saw last year the players coming back will do just fine along with the players coming up who are hard workers.
-
looking at gillands website fargo south has 5 players back that scored at least 20 points not including the transfer from hazen, so they should have pretty good firepower along with the returning goaltender
-
Let's talk about the upcoming season. who has alot of starters coming back and top scorers from last year ? I think the top teams had alot of seniors, but who has most coming back?
2007-2008 ND High School Hockey
