  1. I'm also looking into finally getting an HDTV. Does anyone have any experience with the newer generation projection HDTV's? I've been thinking of going with a projection over an LCD or Plasma because you can get larger screen sizes. I've seen them advertised up to 82", which I would love, but don't know how much picture quality/clarity I'd be sacrificing compared to an LCD, LED, or Plasma.

They are good looking tvs. I did consider DLP, but the overall size (not screen size) was too large as I'll be moving a lot in the next couple of years. The only thing you'll really be sacrificing is viewing angle and the bulb needs to be replaced.

  2. I do agree with most things. Go with lcd or led. I have a 55" Samsung led and love it. Sony is ok, but they can be overpriced. Vizio is an excellent brand with a great price. As far as cables go, firefold.com has really cheap hdmi cables and there is no apppreciable difference.

  3. I heard some statistics a while back about American Indian physicians in the United States. It was something like 25%+ were UND grads. Does anyone have a link to the figures on the free rides UND gives to Indians at the school or any other pertinent stats of Indian graduates from UND?

If the name gets changed I don't see any realistic reason why Indians should continue to get free rides at UND just by virtue of being born with their ethnicity.

It maybe sounds callous, but I don't care. Frankly I never agreed with Indians getting free schooling in the first place, but especially not if we lose the nickname.

In my perfect world we just spell it out to the tribes that the programs die with the nickname.

There is other information about the programs but this should answer part of your original question.

  4. It's easy to not like the goofs for their style of play. But look at history...look at what DU has cost the Sioux over the years. Seriously...there are lots of reasons to begrudge the Pio's. And yet, yes, they are a good team, one to respect, and I DO have WCHA pride...but I'll gladly cheer for UMD to take this region rather than DU.

I agree with you 100% and I do not like the Pio's or Gwoz, but my arguement is the conference and every saying it's the greatest. So far the showing, with DU being a #1 seed losing to a team that some have called the "RedHACKS" and UMD being close with princeton. If we are the best then the WCHA should be dominating these teams. I would like to see UMD take this region too.

  5. Ok...well...I'm with ya on UMD, because I do have WCHA pride. But DU has cost the Sioux too much over the years...they are a notch up from Gophers in my book. So the question is...would you be rooting for the gophers tonight?

Me in '89? I sat there with my Haavaad sweatshirt on, beer in hand, cheering on Ted Donato and Co. to their OT win over the rodents.

    But that's just me.

    So...GO DAWGS!! (While you can!!)

Depends on who they are playing. BC or BU then yes but only because of what BC has done to the Sioux over the last couple of years, and BC and BU because of the East Coast bias. I really, really DO NOT like the Goofs but WCHA pride needs to show. Everyone on here makes the arguement that we are the best so lets show it, a win is a win.

Dogs tie, GO dogs! and GO SIOUX!!

  6. NO matter how much I dislike DU, I would have liked them to win. I would like UMD to come back and win. Everyone on this site should or should have too. No matter what Du or Gwoz has done, it has been mentioned that the WCHA is the "premier" college hockey conference and so far it hasn't shown up. It is a great conference but no matter how well we think it is, we kid of have to beat the other conferences when it matters to prove that. It looks like the Sioux may be the last hope. GO SIOUX!!

  7. Also, the ticket problem will not be solved into they solve the overall picture. They need to go back to reserved seating lower bowl, and allow people to campout like in 2003, this solves all problems.

They wont do this because of the cost of security to watch the students in line and keep them from becoming unruly. The university also did not want students skipping classes just to wait in line a get tickets.

The online system works when its not crashed. Im sorry that some missed out on lower bowl because they waited in line but they only sold the student tickets online and they sold out very quickly so that should tell you that you should buy them online. Tickets probably sold out even before the first person in line got theirs printed.

There is no easy solution to this, as everyone is going to complain no matter what the system. Two years ago they had a lottery drawing and people complained about that. Everyone has equal chance and the new system ensures the most students get tickets as possible. So until everyone just sits back and looks at the big picture (cheap students tickets) and just enjoys being at the games for the cost and watching a great team, no one will be happy.

  8. Anyone know if either game will be on Midco in GF, any channel? I don't think Midco has Fox College Sports Pacific or Fox Sports Rocky Mtn... Thanks.

If you have the Sports package on Digital cable it will be on Channel 315.

  9. Does anyone out there remember seeing the Bison defeat the Gophers last weekend? Well, if you do, consider this. The Sioux may never even have the chance to play in such games. Even if the Sioux gain the approval of the tribes, there will be many schools who will not agree to play them because of the nickname. Florida State has the support of its local tribe, and yet there are schools that will not schedule them because of their nickname. This isn't a huge deal with a school like FSU that is already well-established in D-I, but for a school like UND that will just be starting the transition, it could seriously delay our development. Hanging on to the nickname will ultimately result in UND's development and reputation being damaged. It's over. The writing is on the wall. I've been a supporter of the Sioux nickname from the beginning. But geez, it's now reached the point of being ridiculous and absurd. It's time to move on.

And for those of you out there that think the name should be retained even if the tribes don't agree, I really don't have the slightest clue what the basis is for your argument. The people whose namesake is being used have to have the ultimate say. Anything else would just be plain wrong. If the majority of the tribespeople come forward and say they want to keep the name, in opposition to a few leadeers, then there is a solid basis for keeping the name. We would then be acting out of a position of integrity. That could change the minds of some of the D-I schools out there when it comes to scheduling -- but I doubt it. In the long run, it will only get worse.

It's time to look to a future that involves a new nickname. This is now primarily a political process that cannot be turned around. It's time to accept reality and embrace change by moving forward in a positive way as the transition to D-I is made. Case closed.

Who's not going to schedule Florida State? Minnesota does have that policy, but if you look at their schedules they play the Central Michigan CHIPPEWAS and the Florida State SEMINOLES. They arent very strict on policy when it comes to big money games, I guess.

  10. Facebook protests are already being organized. Oh man... hope this doesnt turn violent. it is thirsty thursday.

Why don't we actually protest instead of sitting at our computers and joining some group that is a part of 100s and is just buried in the fray.

  11. Yes, those observation are true if you are basing them on potential to turn pro or make players NHL ready. The guy writing the article based his rankings on number of players from that school that have gone pro thus Michigan tech has more players so they are ahead of UND.
