  1. Yes, it's a big advantage to play tournament games on the same ice as you play your regular season home games. You know the rink better and most likely will have a bigger crowd. I don't think that's the reason Red River won but it was an advantage. I think the reasons Red River won are that Mihulka had an extraordinary game and South played a subpar game - take that for what it is, I didn't say South "should" have won or make excuses for them, all I said was they played a subpar game, which is true.

However, with the lack of decent rinks with decent seating in the state there's really no other choice of where to host regionals. Obviously the Ralph is the best rink but I agree with those who have said it's an unfair advantage for the East to play there before State. The Ralph should be reserved for state and no games should be played there beforehand. The Coliseum is a non-standard sheet of ice and as such I don't think it should host tournaments, and I don't think it should be in a smaller town, so we're left with Purpur for now. If/when Fargo builds a better rink I would propose EDC switch between Fargo and Grand Forks. Actually I don't think it would be a bad idea to have EDC over at the Moorhead Sports Center, but it would be tough to get enough ice time with Moorhead High and Concordia College having games, not to mention all the other stuff that goes on there.

As for the rest of what was posted today, can't we just let one player's mistake be one player's mistake? It doesn't matter where he's from originally or what school he goes to. He made a mistake and was punished for it. I don't get the argument that Wilson should have benched him. Just because one or two specific other coaches may have done it doesn't automatically make that the "right" thing to do. He was already punished and had to sit out a game. Whether or not the coach sits him for more games is totally up to the coach and depends on the situation. In general I think that on-ice behavior (during/after games) should be punished as dictated by the rules (as happened here) and coaches should bench players based on off-ice behavior (practice, etc.). Of course some coaches do it differently and that's fine, but that doesn't mean everyone else is wrong.

I'm not sure about the "no comment" situation, but it's not like there's a press conference and he skipped it. The reporters just hang out by the locker room and wait for people to talk to. If people don't want to talk that's up to them. At the high school level I certainly don't think there's any obligation for anyone (including coaches) to do interviews and give statements. The pro level is a totally different situation and any comparison to that is out of line in my opinion.

lol yeah central should have taken the edc tourny because they practice at purpur everyday..yeah you are right, they really got the bounces and had the upper hand this whole weekend. gf teams are fist-pumping right now because they get to play in the ralph now, where they havent played all year. on a new note, mihulka is the best player in the state. i believe this weekend proves it.. he can single-handedly carry a team of younger or less varsity experience players to a first seed from the east going into state

  2. I do not know enough about west hockey but here we go for the east side.

defense - galt, south and peterson, grafton

    forwards - weisgarber,south, mihulka,red river and p. campbell, grafton

    goalie - deichert, south

    coach - richards, west fargo

mr. hockey finalists - weisgarber, mihulka and galt

    goalie- deichert or rosendahl

  3. I think that it is sad that this message board has sunk to this level because some people need to rip on players that are still kids. I had previously requested that people be civil, and reminded posters that players and their parents and coaches may be reading this message board. The message from the Fargo North player confirms my concerns and I think it took a great deal of courage for him to not only reply, but to take the high road. His response shows that he has class and he is a very good hockey player. No, he does not play for Fargo South or Red River, but that does not make him or Nick Klenow bad hockey players. In fact, they are very good hockey players that could play for any team in the state--Yes, even South or Red River. Please try to take the high road when posting on this message board. It really is informative at times and I would hate to see it shut down because some posters refuse to be civil.

his response shows hes a good hockey player??

  4. I hope your kidding about seeing those two in Sioux uniforms. The last thing we need is two defensemen who are going to have trouble handling forwards from Concordia, trying to handle forwards from Denver. If you think saying they'd have trouble with forwards from Concordia is a stretch, give Cory Johnson a call, I'm sure he'd love to have a one on one against them.

I'm gonna have to completely disagree with you on this one, they are both amazingly talented high school hockey players. Not to mention they are SOPHOMORES!! I have seen both of them play extensively this year and I would be willing to bet that both of them will be highly recruited D-I prospects when their time comes. They will both be 6 feet tall and if they put on some muscle, which juniors will assist in, they will be just fine. Sometimes people forget that its not all about strength when it comes to stopping oppsoing forwards, it has a lot to do with positioning and hockey smarts, both of which are qualties these guys portray. As a matter of fact, they remind me alot of a younger current Sioux recruit, Jake Marto. Not by any means the biggest or strongest guy on the ice, but he sees the ice as well as anyone and he seems to be doing just fine.

  5. Any predictions for tommorows games and Thursdays games, tommorows games are RR vs FN, South vs Shanely, Central vs WF, Minot vs Williston, then on Thursday, RR vs Central, South vs Grafton

    rr over north 4-1

south over shanley (not sure of the score)

    central over WF 3-2

    rr over central 3-1

    south over grafton 4-2

  6. Another big game on Thursday has Central and Red River playing one another. The last time these teams met it went down the wire, and either team could have won the game. It would be a tremendous boost for Central if they could not only beat their cross town rival, but also knock the east region regular season title away from them.

PS: Very glad to see the game will be played at Purpur. I've been to Central-Red River games at the Ralph during the regular season, and I'm sure that some Grand Forks natives will agree that the atmosphere isn't quite the same. :D

i think that this will be a very good game. and as you pointed out, very important as well. i am going to stick with RR pulling out a win and staying in pursuit of the 1 seed. even if RR loses, you cant count them out for the 1 seed because south still needs to beat grafton on thursday i believe. if this is right, thursday should be a very good night for high school hockey. i am also very glad to see the game played at purpur. it has always been fun to see the fans pack in there and make some noise instead of being too spread out in the ralph

  7. you guys all complain about the topic after topic. first its how the east doesnt respect the west, then how the fargo schools are becoming a dominant force compaired to GF. agreed the fargo schools dont suck as bad but they will never become the lagacy the GF schools have become. then it comes down to underrating the GF teams every year. its pathetic. i know i like the GF teams but i hate to come on here and see such pro fargo people talking s&!t about GF. i have a grudge that will last forever against fargo schools but i can at least admit that south is talented. next it comes to the crowd at the games other than the GF/GF series. all the other games are unimportant when the games arent free anymore. and we like to drink in GF (weekend/weekday) so we need money for other things. oh and the GPR goalie scandal needs to be brought to light. people talked about an obscene gesture but they never said what. to just make sure we are on the same page, he winked and grabbed his privates(small)

  8. Mine would be:

    G: Eli Rosendahl-RR

    D: Jarret Galbreath-RR

    D: Brian Lee-Dickinson

    F: Marc Mihulka-RR

    F: Paul Cambell-GPR

    F: Nick Klenow-North

So far Mr. Hockey is looking like it will end up in Fargo, in the hands of Nick Klenow.

Coach of the year is Jay Erickson-Fargo North

    what does everyone else think?

  9. i figured it was worth mentioning how good the FN Spartans are doing right now. North got shutout for the 4th straight game, combined score of 23-0. It looks like klenow doesnt have the "Midas Touch" as he did on previous seasons. someones gotta help that guy buy a goal or two. speaking of goals, welk has seen an awefull lot of red lights the past few weeks. looks like his drive to be all-state DECA is much stronger than his drive to be a presentable goalie.

  10. thanks crosby 87 for sounding stupid. it will help me sleep tonight. you said look what he does for his team. i must not have checked any sources before saying anything. well just for you i checked and rechecked crosby and his teammates and his team record. the record sure does not relate to how you say he helps them, and thats with the talented players they have on their team. like i said before, i know he is really good but im not going to bend over, like you are, to him just because he is the alleged NEXT ONE.

  11. to even compare anyone to a gretzky is is an insult. i realize gretzky claims it himself, but all i have to say is that crosby will never be close to as good as gretzky or other phenomenal players from the past. not saying he wont be remembered as a great hockey player. -11 and he works defensively? all he does out there is complain. he gets hit, he starts yelling at the ref when it was a clean check. hes too busy thinking hes gods gift to hockey to play defense. also, one of my younger brothers has a friend that played against shattock. he said hes good but wasnt even a standout. just the same in nhl now a few yrs later, he is good but he doesnt dominate the game like gretzky or lemieux did. now can we get back to high school hockey?

  12. this is long overdue by me so i apologize for being tardy, but the people on here that say last years rr victory over north to get into state was by a refs doing is absurd. point well taken that a ref can be in a bad position during a game and make the wrong call, as referred to by nd pride in his game situations. but, none of the goals were by that chance happening. both teams had equal opportunities on power plays. if all of the people out there still refuse this fact just because your team cannot set up their own dynasty, such as the gf schools, then realize that a goal that should have been counted for rr was WAVED OFF by none other than a gf ref. chew on that for awhile. also i would like to touch up on some comments made about SID THE KID earlier. granted, he is a very talented hockey player. but i would like those who commented on this to get back to me on how they think he is so great because if you follow nhl hockey, you will know that he should never even get close to touching the calder trophy. he shouldnt even look at it. he is on a veteran line with either palffy or recchi and yet is still not leader in points, as he is currently behind ovechkin. ovechkin, on the other hand is his own line and has the same or a few more points (last update). both are on lackluster teams which can describe the negative +- but crosby has -11 and they have a better record . Wheres the defense??? also they should quit interviewing him when other people score and he doesnt. i know this is all about high school hockey, so ill get off my pedestal. please respond back and i have don cherry on my side as he doesnt like him either so it better be good. dion phaneuf is better as well. i also heard that mihulka is currently suing NBC, claiming Law and Order are trademarked names for his left and right fists. any truth to this??
