  1. Add 4 Fighting Sioux fans to the list. We will be there.

When did you guys get your tickets in the mail...I'm freaking out because we moved and sent them a letter about our new address and have heard nothing. Their website is not very useful. I will just chock it up to the anger i have for Myles!!!

  2. I was looking at the possibility of staying in Windsor too. It looks like rooms in downtown Detroit are hard to come by. I found something online that said customs is not a big issue between the two cities.

    Thanks for the reply.

I am looking at staying in the Windsor Riverfront Raddisson. I have a ton of points for a free stay and discounted stays i never thought i would use

  3. My wife and I plan on going to all the Frozen Four's despite the teams. Last year I read during the Final Four that staying in Windsor might be a better option. I spoke with someone that said transportation and customs shouldn't be that big of an issue.

Just wondering how many of you guys are going to the FF and what you have found for decent lodging, transportation...etc

  4. tonights game was the first night i could watch at home. During the National Anthem i could not hear a " Home of the Sioux" not sure if my volume was too low or if that was something that is no more....what is the story with that. I know i have friends who are not a fan of that but i enjoy it.

  5. If you join this group, there would be 11,433 members :silly: :

    Fighting Sioux on Facebook

That is embarassing a group of highschool students created a group with 11,000 plus members. I created a group called Supporters of the Fighting Sioux name in the early days of Facebook and maybe have 200. My friends are lazy. I created a group called "If we can't have the Fighting Sioux name we want NO name!!" thinking about piggy backing off of that other groups fan base.

  6. The university needs to let the dust settle before moving on and picking a new nickname. So going a few years without a nickname is a smart idea. Hopefully one will naturally appear without some random group picking one behind a closed door and trying to force it on us.

But going without a nickname/logo/mascot forever would be a huge mistake from a marketing standpoing. Both academically and athletically.

Yeah i think you are right. Go for a few years without a nickname and then just implement Sioux because it will not die. Then just blame it on the fact that Norwegians are very stubborn

  7. Maybe we need to flood the alumni office and university with emails and calls and tell them not to just randomly change the name to something stupid and

unacceptable, I can see this happening. A lof ot us spent a lot of time and money attending UND and have a degree or two from UND and we don't want to sit by as our university adminstration and the SBOE ruins/disregards traditions and a very storried sports team name. I feel that UND is about more than just finding a conference for the Basketball team, a lot of us didn't ask for UND to transistion to Division one. There are a lot of Banners hanging in the REA with a Sioux logo on them.

Thats what i am thinking. Pretty sure i am going to start a Facebook group about this. See if we can get this opinion spread outside

  8. Unfortunately if feel very pessimistic about this now. I am very worried that we will get shafted with some BS new nickname. I find it very hard to rally around a forced nickname. I have heard it on here before and i love the idea of no name if we can't have the Sioux name. I have sent one e-mail out. Not that it will help. I hope there are enough people out there that support this idea. What are the popular opinions on this idea?

  9. Heck the state has a huge surplus maybe they should foot the bill since the Arena benifits a big portion of the state of ND. Fact fact the REA isn't going away and they would be stupid to just sit empty.

I heard some figure a couple years ago. I think when the World Juniors were in town. The economic impact of the arena alone was absolutely huge that year.

  10. As for REA refusing to cooperate with a possible name change, I am not a legal expert (nor do I have any desire to become one), but aren't the Fighting Sioux name and logo the legal property of the University of North Dakota? That is, anyone who wants to use the name and logo has to have the permission of UND or else UND can take action against said person or entity. So if the State Board decided to change the name and UND told REA to stop using the name and logo, REA would have a legal obligation to comply or face certain legal consequences.

This would be an excellent acid test to find out if REA really exists to serve UND's interests and promote it's general welfare or if it's really the other way around. Somehow, I think the potential long-term benefits of being able to host future regionals and other tournaments (and the profit potential of those tournaments) would outweigh the short-term costs of removing the logos. But I'm not in the minds of REA management, so I can't be sure about that.

Some people would take the position that "we just can't sue REA over this". Well, I think we can and we should if it comes down to the scenario I described above. REA just relishes the fact that they are a private entity; then they should be treated like one. Being a "business" and a "private entity" is a double-edged sword, like a lot of other things in this world.

    Just my 2 cents.

You are correct that the REA can't use the logo without consent to use it. However if the University does decide to change the logo i highly doubt that would require the REA to essentially remodel the arena. That is just crazy. I think the school would have to play in an arena with and old logo unless they could find a way to pay for the change. I think thats fair and am pretty sure Ralph had the upper hand when the contracts were written. If anyone at the school suggests to raise ticket prices to change the logo or any other way to pass the buck off to sioux fans they have some huge cajones. That is a horrible move that proves why they are in education and not business. I think we have a couple years to worry about football playoffs. I'm sorry if i pissed off people on this forum as it appears i may have earlier. I am a huge supporter and rarely feel like posting. I had a couple beers since the vikings game and felt so inclined to post. Please don't blast me i am on the same team.

  11. It appears that the NCAA is moving towards Neutral sites so why even bother with changing the name why not just leave it then and get a North Dakota third jersey for NCAA games? What happens if REA says go pound sand up your @$$ we aren't paying for the changes.

Yeah i couldn't agree with you more. I was trying to get at that. I hope the REA says go pound pound sand up your @$$ to the school. I think that may be what some people need to realize it's not worth spending a million dollar just to save a handful of peoples feeling.

  12. On a side note i just wish everyone that is against the name at the school was present last year in Denver at that bar before the FF game. Nothing like it!

Just about everyday that i wear a Sioux shirt or Jacket no matter where i am at it sparks up conversation. Just last year i met an alum in Hawaii while looking at the ocean off a cliff.

Went to a Capitals game last year (Wearing the Sioux Jersey) and met the GM of the team before the game during some promotion deal. Had a very good conversation with him about Finley. I just can't believe some politically correct bastards want to take these experiences from me. These are just a few stories of many.

  13. This topic absolutely makes my blood boil. I think it's absolutely ridiculous to give high school students a say in this. Go Tigers, Falcons, Bears, Wind, Rain. It's obvious enough why. If it needed to come down to a vote alumni and current students should have a say. I think everyone knows which side a vote like this would favor. That is why they want high school student input.

I just graduated in 2007 and I can count on one hand the people I encountered that are against the name. Those people were from my Freshman English class (From this post you can probably tell I didn

  14. So do you guys just set up your C-Band and set it in the right direction and get FSSN or what? Do you have to subscribe to any particular service? I'm thinking i really need to do this when i move outside of GF

  15. I thought I was at a Canadian hockey game last night when the fans were booing our own goalie. I was pleased to see that Phil looked pretty damn determined when he was put in net. In his warm-up he sized up the net a little more than usual and it looked like he was going to be damned if he let anymore go over his shoulder. I love the fact that he is a butterfly style goalie and not some big old Gomer who just takes up space. He is definitely disadvantaged in size.

I think the issue goes far beyond the net. The teams back check definitely is lacking. Too many odd man rushes that result in shots. The defense seems to be a step behind and sometimes it looks like they just plain give up or are too tired. I have seen Chorney do this a few times. Since when has it been alright to allow someone to hang around your net and get a rebound? The D need to step up the physical play in front of the net as well. If they touch the puck in front of our net they should either be tied up on their ass. Fighting Sioux hockey is supposed to be fast and hard hitting apparently we dropped the hitting off at the door early in the year. It is slowly getting better.
