  1. Gratzek comes from a farming family in a farm community and incase you didn't notice it says his preferences are mechanical engineering OR agriculturla engineering. I've only been at UND for three years but I don't know that I've ever come across an ag program, so I think that would pretty much sure things up for SU right there. Just a thought...

  2. I'm just passing on what I've heard but obviously you have closer sources. Also...SA plays MayPort CG @ Mayville State this week. MPCG has talented low post players that can give many player fits. It might be a good matchup. I think SA backcourt will make the difference.

Gratzek won't be at the Mayville State Tourney this weekend, he and his family are on vacation in Mexico.

  3. I heard some interesting news today while watching Christmas hoops. Gratzek from SA is leaning towards UND if he decides to play football. Yeah, if he decides. I guess he is tossing around the idea of playing basketball. He's had interest as a basketball player from the same schools that are looking at him for football. I don' t know what he looks like as a ball player. I've never seen him......but this info came from a very reliable Northern Minnesota source.

While it's true that Gratzek is leaning towards playing at UND if he decides to play football, the IF has nothing to do with basketball. While he's a great athlete, he's not a college basketball player. I went to school with him, and my little brother plays with him everyday. The reason for the uncertainty has to do with whether he wants to beat up his body playing football and whether or not the school he chooses expects him to put on more weight than he'd prefer. That's a large reason for him not wanting to play at NDSU, when he went on his visit there was talk of him playing center or d-tackle and putting on 40 lbs and he didn't like that idea so much. Again, while he's an amazing athlete and an absolute beast, he's too much of a tweener to play college basketball. At 6'4 and nearly 250 lbs he's much too short to play in the paint and about 5o lbs too heavy to play on the wing aside from lacking the handling and shooting skills.

FYI, Stephen Argyle plays Cavalier in basketball at Cavalier January 28th if you wanna see Gratzek and Anderson square off. I'm not sure how good the Cavalier bball team is but SA's won their first six games by an average of 27 points per game and hasn't had anyone within 18 points yet.

I'll try my best to keep everyone updated if I hear anything else. Thanks

  4. My cousin played with Gratzek in highschool and hosted him a couple weeks ago when he made his visit to UND and from what he had to say afterwards, Gratzek at UND LOOKS promising. I emphasize looks because obviously until the papers are signed nothing is definite. Would be awesome to keep the local kids though in Anderson and Gratzek. Also, Joel Schwenfier from Kittson Central made his visit this past weekend as well.

  5. I know Gratzek is in Fargo this weekend and according to what I've been told is leaning heavily towards NDSU. From what I was told it sounds as though he's looking to major in engineering and likes the prospect of playing at the D-1 level.

  6. I stopped in to the Stephen Argyle vs Crookston boys basketball game last night and was fortunate enough to see Gratzek throw down a monstrous dunk on the fast break before I left. Not much of a game but it was fun to see the athleticism of the big guy. Stephen Argyle won 75-46 or something like that.

  7. Gratzek named second team all state as an offensive lineman by the Associated Press.

Another kid who made the all state team and who is apparently on UND's radar is Ty Boyle of International Falls. link

Gratzek was an honorable mention D lineman as well...not a bad year

  8. Couple articles in the Herald on Gratzek and Stephen Argyle

"STEPHEN-ARGYLE NOTEBOOK: Senior Gratzek has big game for Storm...

...Cromwell coach Jeff Gronner said before the game that his team was concerned about Gratzek making plays everywhere, offense, defense and special teams."

"Senior Matt Gratzek excelled on both sides of the ball, punishing Cromwell with devastating blocks and making a team-high 10 solo tackles."

  9. While I'm unsure of how accurate this information is, it did come straight from Jerome's mouth. He's been in town most of the summer running camps and running with the men's team(with the exception of his stint on the Men's World Juniors Team). Back in July he had said something about working on a deal with the Phoenix Suns...I'm not sure what's happened with that being as he's been in the area since. I'd love to see him in an NBA uniform again soon...Hopefully that's of some help. :D
