What a laugh. The GFCA BB team has coaches that cant cope. So now the world will stop and listen to their righteous whining and gnashing of teeth. Let their fans join in, its what they do best. The Mankato coach is in the same boat. All coaches need to be skilled in situational conflict control. Interacting with the crowd, which is what both the GF college coaches and the Mankato coaches/players did, is wrong. This type of unsophisticated-dare I say hayseed- behavior could easily be changed by providing training to these unskilled individuals. With this in mind I am advocating no more competition between the schools after this season. GF college athletics as a whole is too arrogant and aggressive to be considered a respectful opponent. NDSU should not dignify their lack of sophistication with competition. We have much more on our platter than the need to play a Grand Forks college team at any sport.

You have to remember where this claim of expansion capabilities has come from. Any supporting idea can be blurted out and even backed by non existant "facts" and outdated sources as has been adequately proven by a very few members on this board. Take it with a huge grain of salt!

Im not familiar with Lennons tanking career but where was his head coaching experience?

This is right back to the point I made originally. The coaches for the GFC (Grand forks collegiate) BB team were not prepaired to handle this situation. Everyone agrees it was out of hand, but at the first hint that they were uncomfortable with their relationship with the crowd secruity should have been called. Several Secruity officers between the crowd and the bench would have taken care of it. I think its clear your starting to get the point. Unfortuanetly you come off very poorly with your final remark. Human dignity and respect are not gender specific. Your remark indicates to me that you feel your women coaches need more training in situation logistics and personal control. I feel your entire coaching staff, mens and womens, should receive some continuing ed in that area. They are totally oblivious to their accountability and incompetance in that situation.

I disagree. To deny their culpability is to say no solution will ever be achieved. NDSU is committed to doing what they can, but believe it or not, they dont have any control over other coaches behavior. These are profesional people that should be taught to handle difficult situations. The potential for them exists in every stadium in the conference. Knowing how to handle those situations could prove to be very helpfull. Your coaches enteracting with several fans whose behavior was less than boarsih was the catalist that escalated the situation to physical and verbal assult. Too bad. NDSU will do its part. But accountablility goes all the way around.

The Mankato coach and players did the same thing. They interacted with the crowd. That's something you wont see a disciplined coach and team do. It

Star2City has a good vision of the future. I like the new conference approach. It leaves room for several other teams to join. Sports Talk with Sid&Dave was very interesting yesterday. There was a lot of talk about the DII/DIII hockey schools playing DI "out of Division". Sid doesnt like it. He feels it is an advantage for those schools because they have a lower scholarship cost. They have fewer scholarship obligations, if any, in other sports. Tuition is often cheaper at the DII schools as well. Overall he feels this is an advantage and he is making a big point out of it. He likes to talk about the WCHA and the Big 10 Hockey league. He calls the Big 10 games League play. I wouldnt be suprised if the Big 10 starts it's own league soon. That would open up a couple of spots in the WCHA.

NDSU doesnt want anything from you except mature and professional behavior from your coaching staff. I dont think Saturday night was a model for coaching behavior. The recent history of your coaching staff isnt good: 1) Lennon with that crazy job search 2) Hockey coach/Ed Schultz 3) Crowd interaction/escalation at BSA At least Rocky kept his cool and didnt call you "knuckleheads" until the Forum was interviewing him after the game. He did not interact with the crowd. I think the responsibility of maintaining equilibrium with the crowd is at the descretion of the coaches. They did not handle that situation well and the results were predictable.

The BSA was packed, It was rowdy too. The only thing I noticed, besides two great basketball games between equally matched teams, was a lot of Sioux suck and Sioux suck *&!# cheering going on. Along with "Air ball" and some great cheerleading from a very athletic bunch it got loud in there. You hate to comment about the officiating, but it was refreshing when the one guy got overruled on a terrible out of bounds call. The men's game got late because of the women's OT, but that game was played at a much slower pace too. I don't think regulation was over at 8. Some fans had to leave the men's game and that took away from the intensity a bit. Apparently it did get a little out of control, but it would be very nice if the sue coaching staff would stop interacting with the crowd. They really need to develop a more mature and sophisticated game persona. On the other hand, the crowd should keep it focused on the game. I think Taylors reaction is very level headed. He may be able to improve the situation by some type of reorganization and that is good. On the other hand he is not elevating this into a crisis. Any time opposing players or coaches begin to interact with a rowdy crowd there is going to be trouble. If they were having the types of problems that led to verbal assaults and physical confrontation they should call for security, but many of these assistants are no older emotionally than the students and that leads to escalation.

It boiled down to 2 guys without head coaching experience, but 2 good coaches. You cant judge the future coach by the performance of the outgoing guy, I dont care how many similarities there are. Coach Bohl brings a lot of skills to the position. Hes the new guy in the league this year. I think he is a great choice. Its also good that he gets a year of the NCC before we move on.
-
Retention was the problem with past recruiting classes. We attracted some huge talent that never saw the field. Nobody has really explained what happened, but that fell on Babich's head too. Bradley would have been a great choice. Although we dont really know I think the rumors on Bohl are pretty solid. I believe there will be some changes in the assistant ranks, we have 2 vbacancies anyway, but Im hoping Bradley stays. His defensive units always appeared to be better coached than the offnesive side of the ball.

I have always thought that a new conference might be the solution. But thats going to take time too. The thing for NDSU and SDSU is to continue to move ahead. A conference affiliation is a distinct possibility. That means we would be scheduled into a conference but would not be part of its champmionship competition. It is a very good option. It satisfies SDSUs obligation to have a conference before they move, solves a lot of scheduling headaches and gives us a chance to build the relationships we need to find full conference affiliation.
-
I think public opinion has changed a great deal in favor of the move. But, I cant help remembering Champman's words. "We have a provisional year. If things work out we move up, if not we stay where we are. What is there to lose?" NDSU and SDSU should continue with the move as independents. The options are open and change is coming. The best thing to do is continue to develop the DI athletic programs as independents. A conference solution is certainly going to present itself in time so we should use the probationary period to enhance our programs to be competitive in DI and develop the type or relationships needed to be welcomed into a conference. The reason they have probationary periods is to allow for the transition.
-
It is my opinion that the NCC is not going to move toward DI any time soon. The only remaining school that may consider it is found in North Dakota. If things go well today in Salt Lake City the idea becomes even more remote. Slander and liable are defended by the truth. You are what you are, and your denials are noted. In addition to your material omissions, you have resorted to ad hominen attacks. I.e. shift key taunting as it relates to my character. You can

As it turned out the Fabulous Fargo Dome was built to the right scale. Its true it doesnt often sell out, but the size is needed for a lot of other events. On the other hand at least until last season, a crowd of less than 12,000 was rare. AS NDSU moves into new territory I think the crowds will get bigger. There is going to be more interest and exposure. In addition the way Fargo is growing there are going to be more and more fans in the market. 5% - 10% of the metros population attends football games. Add 1,000 more people and you have 100 or so new fans. Having the excess seats is a nice feature when you look at growth.
