You guys didn't know Barry Bonds when he was a 170 skinny little singles hitter for the Pirates!
Actually lots of guys this age suddenly get that "man body", and boom the muscles come. We call them late bloomers.
-
Anyone hear how he's doing in practice? Full go...rusty? Seems like a very short time to heal a bone.
-
Any word on LaPoint? That was a vicious hit and I hope he's OK.
-
I'm only a little ashamed of myself for this, but yeah, having to practice at Purpur or anywhere else might be good for this team. I'm surprised at how nonchalant the Sioux can be some times, and two, maybe two-and-a-half period of Sunday's game, most of the team simply had a great seat for a hockey game. I don't know what Hakstol (or one of the captains) said after the second, but FINALLY the boys showed up and played up to their abilities.
This is a special hockey team; maybe a champion team, but they can't take a period or two off like they did tonight. Like they did against DU in St. Paul.
A win's a win, but other than Turris, this Wisconsin team has nothing close to the talent UND boasts, and the Badgers almost won the regional.
Skate sixty minutes a game in Denver boys.
Since it seems to be a pattern, and we're getting outshot and maybe out-skated, is it possible that the skill difference between our top line(s) and the others are enough that we just don't have the jam to skate with people the whole game because the other lines aren't that good and the Oshie line only has so much energy and can't play at peak level the whole game?
I just don't see how Osh, Duncan and Co can play every shift like they did the 3rd period without being carried out on stretchers.
Is missing Trupp and LaPoint's depth putting a lot of playing time pressure on our 1st line?

Lammy is now leading the public vote. I'm think the final 3 are listed on Wednesday.
-
The talking heads on ESPN picked Princeton as the most likely Cinderella team. 'They have 10 western Canadians on the roster who don't know who North Dakota is and they're going to play to win'
-
According to Hak Trupp will not be in the lineup for the weekend. I agree it would be nice but you sure don't want to rush a broken bone. The kid's got lots of hockey ahead of him.
True. It's rare for any broken bone to take less than 8 weeks. Small bones can be worse. Add in rehab and time to get in game shape...

How does the Mich State loss translate to their NCAA spot? They're still in right? TIA, I'm terrible at this bracket stuff

I live a long way from home these days and listen to KFGO radio webcasts. You guys who "see" the games...are we screwed regarding a national championship now? Not being pessimistic or throwing in the towel, I just think others would have a better perspective than me. I'm just askin'
-
Hated to see Trupp get hurt. It didn't look good in that it wasn't an obvious impact injury. He got hit but it looked like the injury wasn't from the impact but instead during the off-balance recovery from the hit, like he twisted something. For the team's sake, but more for his, I hope it's something relatively minor.
To his credit, he made a valiant effort to get to the bench even on his knees.

Ohio State fans (both of them) are claiming they have the #2 2008 class behind Minny. Is there someone, somewhere, with any credibility, that rates incoming classes? If so, have they already labeled the 08's?
-
If they can they will. They are terrified of an all WCHA Frozen Four again like what happened a few years ago.
Correct, committee will be sure that won't happen again. Need to continue pumping dynasties like Miami and salting the frozen four.
-
Miami is a cupcake anyways. They have a good goaltender and maybe one scorer who may make UND's second line if he was here... Miami is nothing special.
Michigan is the only team in the CCHA that is remotely competitive.
True that, just a matter of time before reality set in for Miami. Michigan and maybe Mich St are the only CCHA teams worth mentioning this year.

Hard fought sweep.
Not all that kosher though.
I guess Manino did get the 2 minute earlier. Radio guys (not Sweeney) said it was Cheverie. Oh well.
I just find it interesting.
My 3 stars of the game:
1. Chay Genoway
2. JPL
3. Andrew Kozek
Overall, the weekend belonged to Kozek, Duncan, and Genoway.
Somehow Oshie makes things happen even when no one notices

Miami swept

FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DU getting beat and trying to get us off our game. Stay focused and put these guys away.
-
They didn't give them enough time to make it worth missing a game. The refs aren't playing fair.
EDIT: Maybe the refs ARE playing fair. They're not getting booted, therefore not DQ'ed. They're lucky.
That's different, I wonder if that'll work out or if they'll finish it later anyway
-
Trupp goal.
thanks
-
Refs shouldn't be allowed to drag guys down by the facemask

Late season comeback shows the importance of upper classmen. Jrs Duncan, Kozek, Oshie, Sr JPL: toughness, tenacity, leadership
-
If and when you move away from GF you will always remember the great times at the games.
You are incredibly fortunate to be part of the nation's finest college hockey right in your own back yard.
Have a blast this weekend!
-
I only heard the radio broadcast. More than once they said Oshie was "gassed". Why so much ice time? Fresh legs must be better than even a great player on rubberized stems.

I have a question. We all know how nice of a hockey venue the Engelstad Arena is. People from all around the region, country, and world have come and continue to visit the arena and walk away impressed. The arena has many features, one of my favorite is the pictures that basically depict the history of Sioux hockey.
My question is this: Has there ever been discussion about incorporating Native American History (specifically Sioux) into the arena? Whether it be special Sioux history type of room, or interspersed amongst the hockey memorabilia, or even museum built next to the arena. I believe there is a great opportunity for something positive to come from this nickname debate. Now that the debate has taken on a national platform, is it possible for something positive like this to occur.
Any other ideas, suggestions about this?
It would be a joke. The history center would have to be a PC sham portraying the Sioux as a nation of CPAs.
They were a warrior, hunting/raiding society with a nasty habit of raping and mutilating their vicitims. Sorry about the inconvenient truth. The soliers of Little Big Horn were turned into jewelry.
The report of commander of Fort Phil Kearny, Henry Carrington, at the time of the Fetterman massacre by the Sioux describes what he found regarding the slaughter of a large number of men, women and children in his report (I'm not defending whites, I'm just saying that the Sioux were not a peaceful people, not before the Europeans, not after, the idea that they weren't "Fighting Sioux" is ridiculous):
Will this kind of thing be in the education center?
-
After reading this post from GrahamKracker I believe the Sioux tribe should get what thay are asking for; to become a footnote in history as the guys who didn't fight all that well. Although Sioux military history is slightly better than the French it seems that the logo "Fighting Sioux" is inaccurate and not up to the standards of our hockey team.
"the SIOUX are not proud of you using it. I have documents to prove that. Get over it and buy up all the gear you can, because this mascot/logo will be history soon enough."
North Dakota is a much better name.
