  1. So far, so good with recruits' response to the hire:

(from a Dave Kolpack A.P. story)

He was never offered by NDSU, fact! One of the OL coaches liked him while the OC didn't like him so a scholarship was actually never extended.

  2. that's the problem.

So should the news not assume then as well since all they did was report the facts? You say weak arrest but is it really? He's already on probation and he knows he's already on thin ice there in GF. So why risk getting into anymore trouble by even getting into an argument that could lead to conflict? He's freakin TJ Oshie, you would figure he knows he already has a big enough bullseye on his chest already. I think Jim Carrey said it best on LIAR LIAR, "QUIT BREAKIN THE LAW!"

  3. I would take Josh Murray over any of those names.

Obviously that's because you don't know anything about "those" names, so you saying you would take Murray doesn't exactly hold a lot of merit. While Murray is a good solid player, McNorton is about as big of an FCS recruit as your going to get. Horner has his work cut out for him if he thinks he's going to get any huge PT at RB the next 3 years.

  4. He'd be competing with Josh Murray and Catlin Solum for time. I'm not too surprised either.

Umm, he's also "competing" against Paschall, DJ McNorton, and Matt Voightlander for time at NDSU. Not exactly any less talent then what UND has.

  5. That's what I think too, but don't try telling that to Bison fans. They want to believe that what they've done over the past few years is something special that we can't duplicate.

As long as you have a coach who will do it the right way, you'll have no problem making the transition. The Sioux definately have that coach, so you won't have a problem. It's not just a good win for the Bison, its good for the Sioux as well. The Sioux definately have Bison fans respect and for those who don't think the Sioux would have an amazing battle with NDSU, they are just crazy.

  6. Neither. My comment was not specific to Austin Dufault but to student-athletes in general.

Very valid point, although I don't think academics had anything to do with his decision to goto CU. Ultimately you have to look at how he was going to fit within Colorado's offense and how he wouldn't have to put on 30 to 40 pounds to be effective. Gotta remember too, his favorites didn't exactly include any academic powerhouses.

  7. I'm not intending to smack back but...some athletes actually look at academics when choosing a school.

So you actually know what his major is then and you know what he wants to go into or are you simply speculating?

  8. By college and professional sports, do you mean college and professional football & basketball? Because it sure seems like the majority of athletes who get in trouble with the law are from one of those two sports.

They also get the most media attention so the media are quick to point out anytime anyone gets into any trouble at all within the two sports.

  9. Ross is actually on the same team as Steve if I'm not mistaken. I thought there was an article in the forum about how Steve joined the team midseason thanks to his brother having a tryout tape for his brother when the team was in need of versatile player.

  10. Is this a sign tof things to come? Lennon has recruited kids as far away as Arizona and Texas? I dont remember ever hearing of this happening before. What are your thoughts?

Gotta start recruiting outside of North Dakota/Minnesota to continue to find top notch talent with the big move. In order to stay competitive, you must expand your recruiting base. Good to see Coach Lennon expanding his recruiting base.

  11. It appears NDSU had a very good recruiting class as well. Two questions for Bison fans:

    1) How long has SU had a Criminal Justice program? I didn't realize that you offered this. I see that 2-3 of your recruits plan to go into that field.

    2) What is SU's definition of a "preferred walk-on"?

    Thanks!

This is if I'm not mistaken this is the 4th year year that NDSU has offered a BA in Criminal Justice. The program is obviously relatively new. Before that, they offered a BA in sociology with CJ as a minor.

  12. A band aid? Harry is the best defensive player they have and he can guard 3 different positions. Jerome was a far cry from a band aid and I think if we go back in the history of Sioux bball, we'll find alot of JUCO's and transfers that helped us win conference, regional titles. I believe you'll see more juco kids and transfers once the DI process happens.

Oh, by the way, UND didn't recruit Craig Nelson because they recruited Josh Doyle instead. How has that worked out?

Craig Nelson and Josh Doyle are two completely different players. Would you rather have a true point guard or a point guard who is more of a scorer and more of a pure shooter?

  13. No, the assumption I'm making is that if you're a kid growing up in North Dakota, you dream of playing for UND or NDSU well before schools like Northern State, Mary or a DAC school. I'll bet there's not a single North Dakota kid on the Mary roster who wouldn't have gone to UND had an offer been made. The fact that UND has been down for awhile hasn't changed that. In terms of the NCC-NSIC matchups of the past two years, it's obvious that the NCC is not doing as well as it used to. I don't know what the problem is. UND has passed on some pretty good kids who almost certainly would have come here had they been recruited, such as Craig Nelson and Blake Strouth (brother of UND football player Brandon Strouth), but who went to NSIC schools and flourished. Perhaps not coincidentally, UND lost to both Northern and Moorhead this year.

Everyone will admit that UND lost out on Craig Nelson to an extent. He was a good solid player in HS, I'll give you that much. But Blake Strouth wasn't recruited by UND because he wasn't very good in high school. That's coming from the mouth of one of the assistants from MSUM. He worked his ass off though and improved his game to the point where he's a good scorer and a good ball handler. These guys were solid in HS, but not necessarily good enough for bigger schools. So they go in there with a chip on their shoulder bust their butt and get their game to the point where it looks like other teams missed the boat. The biggest factor with these guys though are level of competition. If they aren't putting up good numbers and playing solid in AAU ball with the high level of competition, they aren't going to get recruited by the likes of even UND or NDSU.

  14. Actually, I'm 99% positive McNeil and Chappell were both 2005 grads. I specifically remember both playing in the shrine and mon-dak bowls, and McNeil played corner because Chappell was the primary running back. I just assumed he would end up playing defense in college, so it really surprised me when I heard recently that not only was he playing running back, but that he was potentially going to get a scholarship to a I-A school.

    Good call, my bad.

  15. It's kind of interesting that Brian McNeill, who played at West Fargo a couple of years ago and is just finishing up his second year at NDSCS, is getting a lot of attention as a potential I-A running back recruit. He was nowhere near Chappell's level in high school (both were 2005 grads) in terms of either speed or production. It kind of makes me wonder who'd be recruiting Chappell now had he gone the juco route?

McNeil graduated a year before Chappell. He was also less heralded because he didn't get to get big time carries until after Tyler Rohl left, so he was left with one season to show he was a star.

  16. 63 UND

    70 MSU

    Final

The title run has slowed to a trot...

    :silly:

I find the most glaring weakness on UND's roster is outside shooting. They have no one who can consistantly hit 3's. What killed them tonite was perimeter defense and the fact that MSUM got absolutely on fire shooting 3's. It was a fun to watch none the less though.

  17. I agree that the knee is still bothering him but I also think he is about 20 lbs. heavier than he should be right now. Might be due to the knee, I don't know.

This isn't a very good team, no early signings either. Give me a reason to get interested in mens bball at UND, please!!!!

Yeah, he has had 3 surgeries the past 15 months. He said he's only able to play at about 50% of what he's used to playing. The Doctors recommended that he hang it up, but he was pretty persistant on playing. The point guard play was not good at all last night. Hopefully they can give MSUM a good game tonite.

  18. The men lost tonight to CSP 76-72

    Box Score

    Koenig only played 8 minutes??

You can tell Koenig's knee is no where near close to 100%. Most people don't know that he had the same surgery done as Jason Kidd, Amare Stoudamire, and Kenyon Martin. Normal recovery time should be around 18 months. If he was even 80%, I think he could dominate division 2. They are a completely different team with Koenig in the lineup, he gives them a dominate low post threat. Without him though, they struggle! Coach played Tyler tonite as much as his knee would allow him to play.

  19. I know Dale Lennon is a class act. I wish he would replace that idiot Kupchella you have as president. But is UND going to be able to compete with the Bison in recruiting this year?? I heard last year NDSU and UND went after nine of the same guys and NDSU got all nine. I am a Bison fan but I have to go for Lennon because he is first class, I hope you say the same for Coach Bohl.

Your a bison fan, I never would have guessed it :D. UND appears to be doing just fine right now.
