  1. Of course he could, but again, why would he spend another year in the BCHL if he were going to bolt? He'll be at UND.

I guess I'm the type that wants to see who drafts a player, how high they go, etc. It's not like we have never seen a kid get influenced by an NHL team and jump ship unexpectedly. Especially the Rangers.

  2. I'll agree "in this instance". Do we know yet in the other instances?

Considering all we judge on is what she described to them (since you were criticizing her employer on how they handled it), it is a moot point about whether there were other instances outside of her experience. They can only judge on what they know at that point.

  3. The Star-Tribune knew Teague was harassing an employee of theirs. They did nothing. And they gave the employee an impossible choice: we screw your career or you screw your career. How nice.

The Star-Tribune knew of a problem and did nothing. In this case, doing nothing allowed (enabled) Teague to continue and expand his pattern.

Ask yourself this: If the Star-Tribune knew Donald Trump or Bernie Sanders did this to one of their political reporters following the campaign, would they have sat on that?

I guess the way I see it is the person that was being bothered by Teague was satisfied with the course of action. If she's not going to complain about how it was handled, it is hard for me to. It was pretty clear that they were willing to pursue it further if she wanted to.

I'd also point out that while what Teague did is slimy, it's not like the newspaper was allowing a murderer or rapist to go free. He didn't do anything illegal in that sense. His "skills" at pursuing a woman are obviously brutally bad but being an sleeze isn't against the law either.

  4. This Teague fellow is quite the oaf.

    http://www.startribune.com/star-tribune-s-rayno-adds-her-own-story-to-teague-scandal/321199871/

I'm not sure if I'm more disgusted by him or by his enablers.

Based on the story, I include the Star-Tribune as one of his enablers as Teague was harassing a Star-Tribune reporter and they did nothing:

The Star-Tribune, given that they offered their reporter "an action plan", knew Teague was a problem; yet, the Star-Tribune did nothing. That is the definition of an enabler.

I completely disagree with you on the paper enabling anything. They gave the victim the option to decide how she wanted to handle it because it was a situation that could drastically affect her career. Two of those options they gave her was the paper contacting Teague to cease the behavior or contact his superiors. The victim was the one that decided to keep it under wraps for her own personal/professional reasons. I'm not sure how that is enabling anything when you allow the victim to decide how she wants to handle it. Not to mention, as big of a clown as Teague is/was, he wasn't doing anything illegal under those circumstances. He was definitely wrong to bother her but it wasn't illegal either.

  5. Maybe he realizes that he is currently playing with his possible future line mates and while they are scoring quite a bit, they are getting scored on even more often.

Waterloo's problems are not their top line forwards.

Their issue has been lousy goaltending and the defensive group has not been good all year. Even our D recruit Shaw is a -5 and that is only in only 18 games played. This coming off of last season where he was a +8.

  6. While I think there's still a chance one of those guys shows up, I was pretty much thinking along the same lines you are when I saw the recent commitments.

There is a little too much of a fantasy hockey attitude with some fans when it comes to recruiting. It's like they think we have endless room for next hot recruit. At some point, they need to be rational.

  7. There' plenty of room when you have potential to have guys wait a year, perhaps even two. Nobody usually gets a full ride, and some don't get much at all, so it's a matter of how many guys you think make for an effective roster.

I know you can defer players but you can only do so much of it before you end up hitting a wall. Even if you defer one guy for a year, it is still a scholarship you have to account for a year later and most of these guys that you might bring in next year are still going to be there the year after. At some point, the numbers simply don't add up.

My belief is we will not see Boeser, Matthews, or the two kids from Penticton coming here and Hak probably knows it. So he doesn't sit around waiting and goes to Plan B options.

  8. They would make room.

Count me as a bit of a skeptic. At some point, the numbers and scholarship just doesn't add up to more and more. My bet is the coaches already have a good idea of how things are likely going to go and decided to pull the trigger on other options.

  9. Don't hate. The kid's a player. It could just be the "traditionally successful" schools didn't have room.

None of the "traditionally successful" schools made a push for Drew Leblanc or Nic Dowd either. ;)

Neither of those two guys were really being hyped as star recruits that would likely be recruited by those kinds of schools. At least not at age 16 or 17. They did turn out well though. Jackson is being hyped and yet no "traditionally successful" schools are there? Just seems a little odd if he is truly of that caliber in their eyes. I doubt all those schools have no room either.

  10. OK, my mistake on the one year out of the last handful of seasons that CC did something. You guys have low standards for what makes a good program if you consider what they've been doing to be good. This isn't the CC of the 1990s and early 2000s. They have taken a few steps back. Scott Owens didn't lose his job because they have been doing really good in recent seasons. :silly:

  11. Rookie of the year in the best American junior A league in North America as a 16 year old. Close to 30 goals, id give him a peek.

FYI....CC and Miami are good hockey schools.

CC hasn't been "good" since 2007-2008. You're giving them credit for things they did many years ago rather than what they are now.

Miami is good. Although we'll have to see how they do in the future now that they are out of the weaker CCHA. The first year results weren't great.

The point is I think it says something that we really don't see any of the traditionally successful schools making a push here.

  12. Monster pick up....I was hoping somehow Hak would get this kid. At least he chose the NCHC....good for the conference.

Looks like they only had to beat out Mankato, CC, and Miami for this kid. I would expect to have at least a few schools like UND, MN, Wisconsin or some eastern powers in the hunt if the kid was really as impressive as some fans are making him out to be. Maybe a lot of the coaches out there aren't quite as high on him as we think.

  13. I am not sure why any of us should disagree with what Minnesota and other big schools want when it comes to this gentleman's agreement. We'd have an easier time of filling spots if we have a late departure for the Canadian Juniors or some other avenue. I have the feeling that Hak probably wouldn't be against getting rid of it.

College football and college basketball don't have any agreements in place and the successful programs are still successful programs.

  14. The one constant is that Hak hasn't had down years like all of the others have had (outside of maybe York). Sandelin wouldn't have had the opportunity to win a title at UND, he would have been fired well before that with the previous seasons he had before UMD won a title.

Some people always seem to use this when discussing Sandy vs. Hak. While it is true no coach would have lasted here with the early season records that Sandy had at UMD, Sandy also didn't have the same kinds of tools at his disposal that a coach has here. Prior to Amsoil, Sandy had to recruit players to the crappy DECC, etc. Meanwhile, Hak has had a very good facility to recruit players to. If Sandy had the same kind of facilities that Hak has, he probably wouldn't have had the crap seasons he had at UMD. You can't ignore that fact.

  15. Simmer's not an All-American? Nary a whisper of Zane either?

Just more disrespect to you guys. (And I know you guys are reading this.)

Put it in the collective team craw. Let it grind away at you all summer. Then, ... come next season ...

Make them pay ... All. Next. Season.

Simmer is also gone. There is no motivational factor there.

As for Zane, he had a very good year. But Wilcox is a second team team guy and he was better than Zane this year. Pretty tough to complain given that fact.

  16. It is hard for me to feel sorry for our club. They had the chance to get in and blew it down the stretch. I know some people will point to losing 3 good players for a period of time as a cause but that is a bit of a weak argument when you look at what Minnesota achieved without Kessel and Stecklein for the entire season. We had our chances against teams we should have beaten (especially the home games with Mankato) and we just didn't get the job done.

  17. Looks like they're going to have to win the conference tournament when the Olympians get back. Tough task, but they are the only team in the nation to beat Minnesota when their full team is intact.

The problem is they will have to face Wisconsin in the semi-finals before they would even face Minnesota. That's going to be a tall task to beat the #2 team in the country and then try to beat the #1 team the next day. This club is in deep trouble after the egg they laid this weekend.

  18. So UND had a bad game against a good team. Let's put things in perspective. Still only 3 points out of first. Not gonna win every game. Our league is tough this year. Still 8 games left to make some noise in the league this year. Everyone needs to calm down. We are still in good shape. Hey, we could be Redhawk fans!

I'm not sure I believe the league is that tough. We only have two teams sitting in NCAA territory right now. It seems like a lot of pretty average teams which gives it the appearance of being tough as opposed to a lot of good teams that are battling it out.

Some people need to quit making excuses for games like last night by saying the competition is good. UNO is 2 games under .500 and sitting at 31 in the PWR. They are not a good team. They have some good offensive players but they are not good on defense or in goal.

Last night's home loss was inexcusable given the team is fighting to be in the NCAA picture.

  19. Having watched them numerous times, I don't see why UND couldn't beat them in a one-and-done scenario.

Read my comment. I never said UND couldn't. But anybody can win in a one game situation so that really isn't saying much.

I only stated they aren't a very good matchup for us and I think it is hard to argue that isn't true. They score much more per game than our club does and they are much more stingy on defense as well. They've also done it against a statistically tougher schedule than we have had (currently 4th in SoS while we are at 26).

Anything can happen in one game but I think I'd rather take my chances against a number of other teams before them.
