  1. Let's take a look at the Bismarck schools first. Bismarck Century loses 12 seniors including seven of their top eight scorers. For forwards the top two returning players include senior Alex Bortke (9g, 15a, 24pts), senior Calvin Patch (3g, 1a, 4 pts) and junior Drew Flurer (1g, 3a, 4pts). They have four returning defensemen led by senior Ian Emery (2g, 6a, 8pts). Both goalies return (Steve Farmsworth GAA 6.0/ save % 82.1 and Nick Dehne GAA 3.88/ save % 89.0. It looks as though it will be a major rebuilding year for Century. If there are 6-8 kids who are improving by skating and working out all summer then there might be some light in the tunnel by the end of the season but on paper Century will have a tough time with Minot and Williston and will have a major struggle in any games against top tier teams from the EDC. Century does not have any players in the Elite I League this fall and there were no players on the USA Hockey Select 87/88 team last spring.

At Bismarck High the picture is not quite so grim. They lost ten seniors including six of the top seven scorers from last season. At Forward they return senior Ross Monson (4g, 13a, 17pts), senior Justin Connell (8g, 7a, 15pts), junior Brent Job (4g, 8a, 12pts), and a couple of others. Clark Dingeman returns on defense (2g, 6a, 8pts) but he has also played forward. Senior Erik Reis (1g, 5a, 6pts) is a capable defenseman who is a leading midfielder on the soccer team. Connell and Dingeman are playing football while Ross Monson is the only Bismarck player on the Fall High School Elite I team (Great Plains). All three goalies return led by Michael Hillman (GAA 3.0/ 88.8%saves). The prospects for Bismarck High are better than those for Century but the Demons will also have a major rebuilding job. Monson, Connell, Dingeman, Hillman, and Reis have had some involvement, off and on, with the North Dakota USA Select program and they should be the most effective players on their team.

The current group of seniors and juniors at both Bismarck schools had major struggles as bantams and finished low in the standings. Without major improvement both teams will most likely find themselves at a competitive disadvantage against Minot and Williston and will have a tough time against the east.

Both bismarck teams will be weak even in the west? I can see minot being the team to beat in the west again but Williston?

  2. As some of you know, a running joke on college hockey forums is poking fun at newbies who post messages asking why nobody makes an NCAA hockey video game. But as this new SiouxSports.com photo gallery and the image I posted below show, such a game does exist.

Actually, it's a modification for the EA Sports NHL 2004 game for personal computers (it won't work on the PS2 or other game consoles). The good news is that NHL 2004 is usually available at bargain-basement prices from such stores as Best Buy and Wal-Mart. Buy the game, install it on your computer and download the NCAA 2004 files here. Be sure to download and read the notes text file which explains how to properly install the game mod.

Once you have the game mod files properly installed, the game is really a lot of fun to play. And even though the 03-04 Sioux didn't go all the way, they're darn good compared to the competition. Besides, who can resist bringing back the Money Line for another shot at the Denver Pioneers and a national championship?  :D

I call this one Dances with Adam.

    IMPORTANT SAFETY TIPS

    • The main file for this game mod is about 230MB. If you don't have high-speed Internet access, it will probably take you several hours to download it over a dial-up connection. Make sure that you dowload all three files and read the notes to understand how to install the files properly.

    • Installation of the mod files requires that you have a program such as WinZip to unpack the compressed files. You should also have some familiarity with the Windows file system. Otherwise, you might run into problems getting the correct files into the proper folders. It's not terribly difficult, but it helps to know what you're doing.

    • If you're having problems getting the game set up to run properly, feel free to post a message here, PM me or e-mail me. You can also e-mail Mike McClure at mike@analogrecordings.com. He is the person making this game mod available, although he is not the sole designer. It was actually put together by a team of people over a couple of years.

    • Nearly all of the team rosters are from the 2003-2004 season. The rosters and player ratings aren't as accurate as they should be, although the Sioux team isn't too far off. I've used an editing program called NHL View to make the Sioux more realistic. Also, be aware that the Gophers are NOT the 2003-2004 team, but are intended to represent the 2005-2006 Minnesota team with Phil Kessel and other Gopher "super recruits." In time, I plan to edit the Gophers to have their roster reflect the 2003-2004 Minnesota team.

    • By computer gaming standards, NHL 2004 (first released in 2003) is an old game. However, if you have an old computer or an "el cheapo" video card, it might not play well on your computer. Or it might not play at all. Here are the recommended system requirements:

Operating system - Windows XP, 98, ME or 2000
      CPU - 700MHZ or faster
RAM - 256MB or Windows XP or 2000
Disk drive - 8x or faster CD or DVD drive
Hard drive - 820MB of free disk space (probably even more for the mod)
Sound - DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
Input - A game pad controller works best
Video - DirectX 8.1 compatible video card with at least 32MB of video RAM with an Nvida GeForce 256 or ATI Radeon 7200 or better chipset. (The game will work with other video cards, but those made by Nvidia and ATI are by far the most common.)

So in order to play this game i must buy NHL 2004 or will this work for 2005 on PC

  3. im with you on that also, bhs has some studs who according to bob gillen have 3 all west region players ( kopp 36 pts Aide 47 pts and hillman the sophmore goalie) and 9 players with 10 or more points not counting aide they will be a suprise i dont know about a state title because minot clearly overwelmed them and had a physical edge on them everytime they played

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

everyt team at state will overwelm the bis high squad

  4. i do not know alot about him just what other people have told me and i have not seen him play enough to tell you to much , ive only seen the tyke play in the west region tourny and he looked ok to me

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

hes to young and to inconsistent we will see what happens at state then i guess when he faces a STACKED red river team !

  5. from what ive seen the top goalers in the east are

    Mclean SR. FS

    Kringstad JR. GPR

    Olson SR. GF RR

the top out of the west would have to be

Stahl SR. Minot (never though he could be a number 1, but proved me wrong)

    Hillman SO. BHS

    Bruce SR. Williston

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Hillman ? he is to small and hasnt grown since bantams hes 5'6" 130 lbs and it seemed to me that he lost a step in his game, he was on the select team for 5 years and was selected to the festival a couple summers back but he isnt a standout like he used to i was not to impressed with his play this year and think hes to small and cant handle big game situations
