  1. No, Eli Rosendahl will not being trying out. I also heard that the Cambells will not be playing. Can you imagine if all these kids tried out? Weisgarber, Galt, Cambells, Mihulka, Larson, Rosendahl, Spies, Dittus, Monson, Jundt, this would be one hell of a team.

Junior24 can you tell me why Eli Rosendahl and Spies will not be trying out?

  2. I believe the committment rule is by state, ND to my knowledge does not have a rule against players who have committed to a junior team or college playing, but I know that in Minnesota they only allow players who have not committed. Also, from what I've heard Mihulka is most likely going to be the only RR player to try out.

Is goalie eli rosendahl of red river not going to try out? if he chooses not to that may hurt the team a little bit because im sure he would probably be the starter. Other goalies that come to mind are norths just welk , graftons tony kringstad and centrals kalvin shane. I would be dissapointed if Graftons campbell cousins didnt try out. I beleive if all the seniors this season could/ would participate that it could have been one of the best team north dakotas.

  3. Minot 4 Devils Lake 3 OT

Devils Lake absolutely deserved to win this hockey game. They outshot, outhit, outplayed a very flat minot team. I guess I'll let Minot get away with the excuse that the game didn't mean much other than senior night, but they still have to play better to make any noise at WDA or state. I give Al Henry and his team all the credit in the world. Only 3 seniors on the team, and a majority of the ice time was taken by juniors and sophomores....look out for DL next year, and the rest of this year.

PS: Before the game a moment was taken in remembrance of Brady Samson, the son of former Minot High School coach Gary Samson who passed away after a courageous battle with muscular dystrophy. From now on they will hand out an award named after Brady that will go to the player on the team that best exemplifies the spirit of good play and love for his team. It was a very emotional little ceremony and for the first time in many years I found tears in my eyes at a hockey game.

Minot won this game because THEY deserved it! no excuses needed!

  4. During the JV game there was a confrontation between a cocky 19 for RR and a I tihnk it was 5 for Minot. 19 ran his mouth the entire game. he was pulled out of the shaking of the hangs along with 5 and both were given 10 minute misconducts. COurse this wont affect their play, but it should be noted that an instance occured, and the officials did the right thing in this situation.

As far as the taunting goes. Classic West teams running their mouth's again. Liek Schmidt running his mouth and tell the refs they are messing up because his dad and uncle are/were the "big time."

Good luck to all teams however in State and regionals.

  5. Among seniors I know of six players who apparently want to play juniors. As client 137 indicates, Junior "A" is the typical gateway for North Dakota high school players who aspire to Division I hockey. There may be more than these six but I know these six are interested because they have either already participated in a Junior "A" tryout, participated in a Junior "A" preseason camp, registered for the Midwest Exposure Elite Tournament (a scouting event for "Junior" teams and other levels), or have been contacted by a Junior "A" team and invited to a tryout - or done several of these activities. Of course, none of this guarantees that they will play Junior A or D-I hockey - it simply indicates an intention/desire, at this time, to try and make a Junior "A" team. The seniors include: Wesigarber (South), Galt (South), Petersen (Grafton), Monson (Bismarck), Klenow (North), and Mihulka (Red River). Just for background there are already four other North Dakota players who would still be in North Dakota high school hockey that are playing Junior "A" hockey - these include: Jordan Willert (Minot HS/Tri- City Storm). Elliot Okland (North HS/FM Jets), Mario Lamoureux (Central/Tri-City Storm) and PJ Lamoureux (Central/Red Deer). If anyone has data on other seniors who plan to tryout it would be great to add them to the list. I have not talked to any Minot people lately so there may be additions from their team as well as other teams. Last year's senior group (Class of 2005) had six or seven kids that made Junior "A" (Marto/Omaha, Vigen/Portage-LaPrairie, Selk F/M Jets, Bair Bismarck Bobcats, etc) or Junior "B" teams (Stadstad/Central/Dubuque Thunderbirds; Cusey/North/Minnesota Owls) as best as I can determine.

ND PRIDE probably already knows this but Ross Monson of Bis. High skated with the Bismarck Bobcats of the NAHL before the high school season and will more then likley continue skating with the Bobcats after the high school season. Also i beleive Weisgarber and Galt of Fargo South have been in contact with numerous Junior A teams(NAHL-USHL) that show alot of interest . I have no knowledge of Peterson's(GPR) Mihulka's(GFRR) or Klenow's(FN) status with hockey after high school but I am sure they will try to continue playing, and will probably succeed in doing so . On another note there are A few underclassmen that ive heard(second hand ) may be moving on to Juniors such as Fargo South goaltender Sean Deichert and Bis. High goaltender Michael Hillman. Whether these two choose to do so or can I am unsure, this information is merely second hand information from parents around the state.

  6. the region tournaments should be interesting in the EAST the favorites have to be south and red river but i wouldnt be suprised if grafton knocked one of them off, in the WEST its the same old mess where anything can happen although you probably have to lean towards minot

i agree with the your analysis with the east region tourny although i dont think Grafton can knock off South. With the west tourny i think it will be tight with hazen just upsetting Minot, and Minot winning close games against Williston, BHS and Devils Lake i think its anyones tournament to win

  7. I think you are dead wrong redwing77 to say that south and red river are the two best teams in the state is a very bold statement. How can you say they are the best, because they have winning records? I'm not saying they aren't the best teams in the state. Don't get me wrong. I just think it is wrong at this point in the season to be making comments like that. There are still 3 very important weeks left in the seasaon. Anything could happen from now to then. South is a very talented team and so is red river, but if you watched them play you would know you can't make that comment. I'm not sure if you were at the game, but if you were and you knew anything about hockey, you'd know red river isn't as good as you're making them out to be. For example did you happen to watch red river try to break the puck out of there own zone. It was like watching a batam team. They couldn't make a simple headman pass to the guy on the half wall. The defense would get the puck behind the net and do one of three things. They would either: ring the puck as hard as they could and hoped it got out of the zone, throw a bad pass up through their forwards legs, or just simply chip it out and hope it didn't turn into an icing. Their power play wasn't good, to put it nicely. They simply worked hard tonight and wanted it more than south and that's why they won the game. Not because they are the better team. They have a lot of work to do before they can be called one of the best teams in the state. They are a good team and I respect them cause they put on a heck of a game tonight and I really enjoyed watching them tonight. I look forward to seeing them play north at their rink on tuesday.

I also look forward to seeing how south takes this loss. I think this was one of the best things that could have happened to south at this point in the season. Granted no one wants to loose, but I think it's a very humbling experiance for them. This shows that they are human, they can loose, and will again. No one's perfect. South should realize that tonight and take this loss with a grain of salt. They are a great team and have a lot of talent, and I think this loss can only make them a better team.

what more would Red River and Fargo South have to do to prove that they are the top teams at this point in the year?

  8. Is it now safe to say the Deichert from Fargo South is the best goalie in the state? Eli Rosendahl's stats took a hit in the Roseau game last night. His G.A.A. goes from 1.00 to 1.59. His save % dropped from 95.1 to 92.5. What a difference a game makes. His G.A.A. is even higher if he didn't play the entire first two periods. As most of us here know, the G.A.A. is calculated by multiplying the number of goals conceded by 51 (the number of minutes in a high schoool regulation game), and then dividing by the minutes played in net.

theres still a handfull of goalies who are very talented and no matter what anybody on this forum says none of us have the authority to "crown" any goalie #1 , especially since the season isnt finished , although I think its safe for YOU to say Deichert is the best goalie in the state. Also keep in mind a GAA of 1.59 and SV% of 92.5 is still pretty solid on Rosendahl's part

  9. Do you think this was just a bad game for red river, or is roseau that good? I noticed on the high school hockey site that they beat bismarck high 6-0 at a holiday tournament(don't know where it was at though). So I'm assuming they're good, but did red river just have an off night or what?

the game was at the Roseau Holiday Tournament I beleive Bismarck was manhandled and outshot 45-10

  10. IMO Tony Kringstad(I have seen him play 3 times, and have heard about him playing from other games by posters on this site) is not the correct choice for goalie. From all accounts, Rosendahl of RR is having a very good year, as is Michael Hillman out west. I have seen about 5 of BHS's games this year, and have heard from other posters that every game they have seen him play, he has been lights out. Every game I've seen him play, he looks to be a top notch high school goalie. I wasn't at the Fargo South-BHS game(south won 3-1) but I hear that Hillman absolutely stole the show with his performance there. So I would say either him or Eli Rosendahl would have to be the goaltenders in mind for All-state consideration.

i agree but i beleive the top 3 goalies in the state have to be rosendahl SR. red river , hillman JR. bhs and deichert JR. south , statistics aside these 3 are are undoubtedly the best

  11. I caught the end of the Minot-BHS game tonight, and Minot won 2-0(empty net goal). It was 0-0 until about 3 minutes left to play i believe. I was only at the third period, but it seemed to be a very even end to end game, and both goalies were coming up huge. Minot got a breakaway out of the penalty box with 3 minutes left and put it in. Hillman for BHS looked very good from what I saw tonight.
the game was close although minot had better scoring chances throughout the game bismarck had oppurtunities but couldnt get a legitamate scoring chance, most of their shots were relativley weak give or take a few. minot had an edge on the demons in all 3 periods bhs's goaltender did a nice job of controlling the tempo but simply was left alone in the 3rd period. the crowd at the game was insane several people were arrested. from what i saw bismarck simply cant bury the puck and minot took advantage of their chances and will most likely remain the best in the west
  12. I can't pull a #5 team out of the mess of teams in the middle. Clearly South is at the top right now followed by Red River and Grafton. I would put Minot next although I am not convinced that they would end up fourth in the state at the end of the season. Hillman is stong for Bismarck but their defense gave up 54 shots against South and they could not hold off Devils Lake in a 3-2 loss. The west is a big question mark with the exception of Minot. There are some good goalies around the state but I have not seen the level of performance in important games to rate a nomination for Mr. Hockey. Hillman probably comes closest for his effort against South. There are plenty of big games to play and one of them could merit such a nomination based on future performances. Rosendahl could have improved his stock if he would have stopped Marc Harrie's penalty shot. He could still come up big.

I agree with south , red river and grafton as the top 3- minot could sneak in there. Mr. hockey has to remain a question mark until the end of the season with weisgarber, mihulka and the campbells heading the list up with other possible choices like galt or klenow. Rosendahl and kringsted would probably be the only goalies to get any consideration where Hillman is only a junior. Teams like North,Central,West Fargo, Devils Lake and Bismarck seem to be of the same caliber

  13. Minot will have the most scoring punch Williston will have the best blueliners and the Bismarck schools will have the goaltending

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I'm not exactly sure where fargo south comes into the topic about the west region teams, but i think a game consisting of the best players from the west region against Fargo South may be a great new topic you could talk about!

  14. Hillman ? he is to small and hasnt grown since bantams hes 5'6" 130 lbs and it seemed to me that he lost a step in his game, he was on the select team for 5 years and was selected to the festival a couple summers back but he isnt a standout like he used to i was not to impressed with his play this year and think hes to small and cant handle big game situations

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

your evaluation of hilly is entirely incorrect, he normally plays on teams that couldnt win a game if their lives depended on it and with the ND select situation i was their for the 86/87 tryouts last year and watched the 88 group and it looked to me he was an obvious pick but Wade Storey didnt seem to think he was a "caliber" goaltender and as far as the to small thing goes youve got it all wrong his angles and qucikness are like no one elses and that makes up for his small stature . i dont think size means anytihing as long as you stop the puck he hasnt lost a step although i dont think hes the BEST goalie in the state but i think hes up there

  15. Who else is there? Stahl from Minot sounds decent, it would be interesting to see how he would do against moorhead like Mclean.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

josh bruce from williston is depended on to stand on his head every time he steps on the ice and still has outstanding numbers also tony kringstad from grafton and bismarcks mike hillman has played extremely well and has been especially hot latley when his team is not healthy and he is counted on i was at the minot vss bhs game and the kid amazed me

  16. Mclean is the best goalie in the state, i would definatly pcik him as my #1 pick, he has kept south in some vert tight games with his amazing saves.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

he is good but i disagree with you on that mclean is the number one goalie north dakota

  17. what more can minot or the west do to prove themselves this year. Bismarck hi beat the easts # 1 and 2 seeds on there home ice, and minot beat the #4 and 2 seeds, and tied the 3 seeds. Central hasn't won a quality game since dec. 27th, (and jamestown, north, and west fargo dont count as quality teams), and now they are playin the states only undefeated team. Central will only have a chance of winning if minot beats themselves.

BHS proved themselves when they beat south, and kicked the crap out of grafton in grafton. The tournament is so wide open this year, that if they play as good as they can, they will have a chance, even without aide in the lineup, 10 guys have at least 10 or more points on the team this year. I would bet that a Grand forks team wont even make it to the championship this year.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

im with you on that also, bhs has some studs who according to bob gillen have 3 all west region players ( kopp 36 pts Aide 47 pts and hillman the sophmore goalie) and 9 players with 10 or more points not counting aide they will be a suprise i dont know about a state title because minot clearly overwelmed them and had a physical edge on them everytime they played

  18. To all of you who say Ben Mclean is the best goalie in the state, I suggest you watch a few games and maybe you will see that he rarely faces a shot from inside the circles and his stats are still in no way superior to many other goalies in the state.  He's not a bad goalie but to put him at the top of the state is a big strech.  I would take about 3 goalies in the east region alone over him.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

what goalies would you talk over ben
