  1. It is too bad that all of your only sources is the media. I am not at liberty to experss my opinion, but it is fun to see that you guys tihnk you know what you are really talking about. And how long it takes for you all to get the right and final answers. Please keep up this entertainment of repeating what was reported on the news.

  2. I think there will be more resignations coming after the 2005-2006 season as well. It wil be interesting hockey these next few years. I hope that we never have to see such a poor performance of ND hockey at the State hockey tournament again in 2006.

  3. This is incredibly sad.  :0

I visited a third world nation this year (Tanzania in East Africa) and let me say the the Red Lake Indian Reservation is far worse off.  In Tanzania, people are happy, food is plentiful, and the people see a better future.

Part of my ansestry is that of a Native American, and it is painful to see the poverty, abuses, destruction and neglect that persists on Indian reservations nation wide.  What happened in Red Lake is sad but what is worse is that the underlying situation that leads to a instance like this has not, and will not be addressed.  This incident is every bit as bad a Columbine, but will never be remembered or addressed like that tragedy because Red Lake is not a rich white suburb like Littleton.

Ironically, I got a note in the mail today, from some PAC telling me to oppose a casino in the Twin Cities that will direct much of the profits to rural Minnesota Indian reservations.  People don't realize that the Casino's that do exist in the Twin Cities are run by two tribes with a very small membership, while the larger tribes in Minnesota don't see much revenue.  I would support this initative or any anything else that could improve Red Lake or Leach Lake or other impoverished peoples.

When I travel to hockey games to watch the Sioux, I often see the protesters that complain about the name and how it needs to be changed.  Most these people are white and have never spent a day on a reservation in their lives.  What they don't realize is that anything that presents Native Americans in a positive light is far better than the alternative of exclusive negative press.  If these protesters really cared about Native Americans there is so many better activities that they could partake in.  But they do not.

As always I respect the University of North Dakota as one of the few institutions that actually has done things to improve life on reservations.  A strong educator of Native American doctors for example.

This is yet another sad, sad day for Native Americans.  And the fact that conditions will not change, and this will be forgotten make it a sad day for everyone.

I wonder when schools, parents, friends, classmates and coaches will start picking on some of the signs of trouble going on with the student. I know he had a history of it, but obvious cries for help and a need for assistance had to have been shown. It seems as though some of the violence is taming down as programs against bullying are increasing. It is a tough battle that we must continue to find a solution for before it is one of our classmates, friends, brothers, sisters, or child getting hurt or being the gunman/gunwoman.

  4. Ya i know this poll is about high school goalies.  But wat about Grand Forks RR's Schaeffer's goal in the second game against South.  He layed out like superman and ill be damned if i havent beat off to that play 30 times.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

You beat off to watching boys play hockey?

  5. Minot seemed to do fine against teams from the east this season when he wasn't officiating (accept the state tournament :silly: ).

PS: Just another one of your rants about how Grand Forks is Gods gift to hockey. Ohh by the way, Grafton and Fargo South had pretty good years as well, and he didn't officiate a majority of their games.

PSS: Its funny how only people from Grand Forks believe the guy is a good official...strange.... ;)

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I am not from Grand Forks, and i was pretty verbal on defending Duce. SO you shoudl say, funny how people in grand forks and not from grand forks believe the guy is a good offical...strange...

  6. Sounds like someone who didn't really WANT to work!!! :silly: I'm glad I don't have someone like him working for me!

Although the Championship game might not have been a perfectly executed match-up....watching the Red River defense was worth the price of admission!!

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

He took some notes on them, that was obvious that number 5 for red river probably looked the best on the ice between both teams.

  7. YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!!

To look at a group of 10 - 12 year old kids....who haven't ever come close to developing...and predict that they will be the best in High School is truly assinine!!

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I wonder what it would be like if Fargo had only one youth team like the other towns that they play. How would all the best players around Fargo, compete against Moorhead? on a different note, I was talking with an ex NHL offical on sunday who went to the state tournament. He and I both agreed that it was the worst performance of hockey we had seen in a long time. The games were horrible, and the teams played without confidence and agression. I saw one good game, between GFC and I think Grafton. Now sure it is an exciting atmosphere, but look at the stats between periods of the championship game. Two shots on net for GFC?! "If these are the best two teams in the state, North Dakota hockey is brutal" Quoted by this NHL ref. I was shocked to hear that. Embarressed as well. There is a lot of talent on all the teams, but it depends on who is going to come and play that night. I think if the teams want to get back in the groove of where ND hockey was, they need to improve the quality of their game of play, and stop setteling for less. I thought it was funny how the West had their state tourney, and the east had their own. This proves my early prediction that the east was going to do better than the west. And while we are on the subject, Jake Marto- good player, but had a horrible game on saturday. Pretty sad when there were scouts there looking at him. I know personally that there are players on the teams that have potential to go past high school. These stars were far below par this weekend. This offical was asked by the USHL to do some scouting for them. While sitting by him part of the game, he closed his notebook and said "well I did my work for the evening, now to enjoy the Ralph and it's ammenities"

  8. josh bruce from williston is depended on to stand on his head every time he steps on the ice and still has outstanding numbers also tony kringstad from grafton and bismarcks mike hillman has played extremely well and has been especially hot latley when his team is not healthy and he is counted on i was at the minot vss bhs game and the kid amazed me

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

ya he didn't look like that tonight at all when I was watching him.

  9. I'm not going to argue anymore.  This is stupid.  Anything I say is looked at as stupid simply because I come from Minot.  You and soohockey are almighty hockey gods who know everything.  Ben McClean sucks, Ty Stahl sucks, Minot hockey sucks, west region teams shouldn't be allowed in the tournament, hell, lets just make it the Grand Forks classic.  Red River and Central play a three game series for the state title, because all other teams suck.  We could include Fargo south, but they have no goaltending, so we better just make it Red River and Central.

PS:  Minot beat Grafton 5-1, so I don't know if you should allow Grafton into the first annual "WE KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT EVERYTHING TOURNAMENT FOR HOCKEY SUPREMACY!!!!!"

I say Red River wins the series....2-1

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

south has goaltending. watch. i got your name now buddy, i am goingto be looking for you the next two nights now to prove to you that south has goal tending. really deep too...

  10. So you're 100% positive that we're going to see upsets in both semifinal games? Not saying it isn't a possibility at this point considering how Central handled Minot and the way McLean turned what should have been a slaughter into a close game against Century (I hope he bounces back vs. RR), but this cocky holier than thou attitude is exactly the thing I've been hinting at that rubs me the wrong way about the Central and Red River hockey programs. It's not even the players that are cocky, it's the people who support those programs. Not all of the people who support those programs, but enough to make them all look bad. Yes, they're very good programs... but get over yourselves already. The arrogance coming out of GF is almost as bad as it is over in Moorhead. You can't go around with the attitude that you should be expected to win because of what your teams did in previous years. There's a reason you were the 3 and 4 seeds coming out of the east this year. How many games did both GF schools combined win aganst South this year? I believe they're a combined 0 for 5. Right? As the 1 and 2 seeds, South and Grafton still have to be considered the odds-on favorites to meet in the title game till proven otherwise.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

It is hard to say what is going to happen now. I do not think the rest of the tourney will be unpredictable however. The teams have a feeling for eachother and know what is going on. IT is game time now boys.

  11. discard the bad part, who is the top netminder in the state ? stahl, olsen , mclean , bruce???

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

if you were at the championship game last year with south and central, you would have seen some amazing saves from McLean. You will see even more this weekend. Hands down, even when he had two knee scopes last year, ankle sprain this year, and other problems, still blows everyone out of the water. Watch him this weekend., you will see. South has some good goalie depth.

  12. Actually, you might be surprised at the lack of disappointment next year and here is why. Nearly all of the 1988 birthyear kids are friends and most of them are juniors. These kids have played selects together and many of them (Grand Forks kids, Minot, Grafton, North and South Fargo, Bismarck) have played nearly 100 games as team mates - one hundred that is not a typo. They went to bantam nationals together and went to the championship game only to lose in the final minutes. I think these kids would cheer one another when the Mr. Hockey candidate is announced - these kids have been functioning more as team mates than competitors. That is one of the great things about the USA Hockey Select program and the new Elite program. It breaks down that east/west thinking - north/south - Grand Forks vs Fargo vs Minot vs Bismarck vs whatever. You are right there are many quality kids who are high school juniors but when the award is announced many kids will celebrate together because of the friendships they have made over the years.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

yes i agree with you on that. And i am friends with many of the juniors, many that you know and are specifically talking about. And ya some of us have our own predictions on this and that. What i was trying to say is that next year who ever does win, there will be fans that will be dissapointed that this guy didn't get it or whatever. I was not trying to say players would be dissapointed, but more of fans. However, people can improve over the year. look at Grant Larson, he goes from third line jv to starting varsity. So we never know what is going to happen i guess. That's what I love about this sport.

  13. Haas, dear buddy, the final three candidates were posted on Bob Gillen's site for high school hockey. The three finalists are Aide, Bair and Marto. The award goes to the top senior. Those are not choices that I am giving, I just gave my analysis of the names that the North Dakota coaches have narrowed down to three finalists. One of those three kids will be Mr. Hockey.

If I was looking for players I think there are some juniors that would fit in there if the award was open to non-seniors. Paul Campbell and his cousin Thomas Campbell are juniors.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

ya next year will be tough to find a Mr. Hockey! I just thought of that haha but it will be fun to post on here who we all think will be it at this time next year. I predict many dissapointed people when they make a descion thought because there will be so much competition.

  14. I think south and minot in the championship. GRP with central for 3rd place and RR is a toss up for 5th place. The big key to the game is defense. No matter how good a goalie is, he is nothing without help in front. I have seen it at many games this year, and a certain goalie tells me "a goalie can't stop what he can't see."

  15. Well, the kids who play these games, especially the top players from different schools are team mates in the off season for select teams and also on some AAA teams. I think eveyone just wants to see good hockey and let the best team win. I do not believe in any Grand Forks conspiracy type of garbage. There are good and balanced refs all over - but there are some that are simply poor. I think any hometown team could come up with one or more hometown refs that they would not like to have. My opinion is simply that it was a terrible job. There is a lot more behind these penalties and I was told that the ref apologized after the game for a penalty he called. The game is for the kids, lets get officials who have that level of professionalism as a priority. Congrats to all of the teams and good luck at state.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Actually out of the 8 officals from the EDC torunament, two were from Grand Forks, one from Thompson, and 5 from Fargo. Try a different conspiracy bud.
