  1. Jim O'Brien did sign with Ottawa. I cannot open the link from the previous couple of posts so I can't read what it says there. Jim O'Brien's dad called my husband this morning to tell him Jim signed. For whatever this is worth to my fellow posters, according to the head trainer for Ottawa, O'Brien tested the best at the development camp this summer in Ottawa.

  2. Murray told me that plans are for Brian to start at Binghamton. Remember, you heard it here first!

Digglelr, my BS meter is working overtime with you... :)

and well, duh, it only makes sense he will start in the AHL...

  3. I have confirmation Brian Lee has signed with Ottawa for 3 years and he will be at the Rookie Camp. Don't know if that means he will be with the Sens or at Bingo; I didn't think to ask that question.

  4. Congrats to the Ducks!

Condolences to Ottawa. Maybe next season you'll come ready to play.

I hear ya, Redwing. As I said in an earlier post, hats off to the Ducks. I was pretty impressed with Scott Niedemeyer's press conference after the game. Seems like a pretty stand up guy. BTW, did you notice what he said to Alfie during the hand shake? He said "I know you didn't shoot at me".

Selanne was pretty happy. That's cool. Still wish it were the other way around. Who would have figured the Sens would have been in the Finals back in November, eh?

  5. Hats off to Giggy. He is the factor for the Ducks I think more than Pronger or Niedemeyer. Selanne played very well too. My Sens are not playing with the same intensity as they did in the other 3 playoff rounds. They sure faded in the last two periods. The Sens owned the first period and without Giggy's very excellent goal tending, the game winning outcome may have been different.

I have to say though, Brett Hull and the rest of the annoucing team are Anaheim rubes. Brett doesn't have an original thought; piggybacks off of eveyone else including the very Dandy Don Cherry.

The Sens are down, but not out yet....I am crossing my toesies they take the next 3 games; unlikely but then pigs fly right?

  6. Sorry Taz, but Pronger is a repeat performer and was extremely lucky to get only one game. I guess he has a free ticket to end someones career to a consussion or broken neck before he will get any substantial time off.

The one game suspension also sends a bad message, as Ottawa's third and fourth liners could take out out one of the Duck's top players if the opportunity presents itself. It would be worth a one game suspension to take out a Selanne and Niedermayer with an elbow to the chin. The NHL couldn't give the offender any more than one game after this decision.

Sioux Hab-it, I think Pronger should be gone the rest of the series; especially given his "play" in the earlier playoffs this season. Were you at the game? I bet the crowd was nuts after the elbow. You could tell from the TV shots of Pronger on the bench he knew he did the elbow on purpose. I understand a good physical game and hard checking but come on. Fisher could have laid the baby Getzlof out flat on the ice and chose to hold up; Getzlof would still be seeing stars.

  7. We weren't going to start naming names were we? he, he, he... :silly:

I actually like the NHL better than college but I am a fan of both, I have had NHL Center ice for like 4-5 years. I think the thing I am complaining about is the lack of coverage in the USA on hockey, they even touched on that subject on XM-204 today. Your right it is relatively cheap to get NHL center ice. I just think it is sad that NHL hockey isn't on regular Cable like it is in Canada.

I agree with you completely. Since the Wild are no longer a viable team, the Strib and Pioneer Press give the NHL coverage on page 3 or 4. Very sad for this size market. USA coverage is a joke. As I recall during my UND days in the early 70's I could get Hockey nite in Canada on my little crappy black and white TV in the dorms.

  8. What some of the posters pay in beer, they could easily pay for NHL Center Ice. All about priorities I guess.

Also, if one wanted to watch more than the Twins, Cubs or Braves games on cable you would have to get the Baseball package as well so it's just not hockey.

I don't get it; if you ( Sioux posters, some, not all) love hockey so much, stretch those hands to the bottoms of your lint filled pockets and poney up the money for NHL Center Ice. It is worth every red cent.

I know some you like college hockey better than the NHL, but isn't the ulitmate goal of our dear UND players to have the opportunity to play in the big dance of the NHL? Ask Toews what he thinks of that.

On that note, Go Sens! :silly:

  9. Listen, lad. I built this kingdom up from nothing. When I started here, all there was was swamp. Other kings said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built it all the same, just to show 'em. It sank into the swamp. So, I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So, I built a third one. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp, but the fourth one... stayed up! And that's what you're gonna get, lad: the strongest castle in these islands.

Sounds like a romance novel; which knight do you propose to be in your tale?

  10. When is the Next NHL Draft...I know the Flyers have racked up a few first round pick's trading Forsberg "AGAIN", but I can't find a link...

Who is the first UND Current or Incoming Player to be drafted...You would think Dunc's would finally get drafted after 2 straight 20 goal season's...Especially with the impact smaller players have had in the New NHL...

Is there a order of who has which pick yet?

The NHL Draft this year will be in Columbus, OH. The first round will be Friday evening, June 22, and the other 6 rounds will be Saturday, June 23.

I believe Chicago has the first pick based on a lottery draw.

  11. I figure something along those lines. I felt that Buffalo didn't have the interest in winning the game. I believe Lindy will get the boys interested or will end up snapping. Don Cherry had an interesting take last night on the coaches corner, he basically said that he was sick and tired of watching the Buffalo players complaining about the reffing and missed calls, he basically told them to shut up and play hockey. Sabres in 7 games.

Don't you just love Don Cherry...

  12. I was ready to throw the TV out of the window when I realized that my wife paid for it. Since Stafford has been taken out of the line up the Sabres have sucked. I don't know if it was an accident. Where was Drury, invisible. I think they need to sit Gaustad and re-insert Stafford. That game sucked last night. Danny B looked horrible, the goal tending was getting bombed.

I hope you know I want the Sens to win the series...I have a vested interest in the team since my husband is a scout for them...but I agree with your assessment of the Sabres' play last night. Game 2 should be a way different story. I say the Sens will win in 6 games.

  13. Buffalo is going beat them with their speed. I would say that the Sabres are deep 3-4 lines, Ottawa has a great first line but drop off after that.

ahem...how about those Sens and their 4th line in last night's game....

  14. Went to the Wild-Thrashers exhibition game at the Ralph a few years ago. Will not make that mistake again. In the vein of Gopher hockey, it is a game that doesn't count and the effort isn't there. A regular season game would be much better.

I would agree with your assessment of exhibition play not having the same level of excitement, but if this is a chance for hockey fans to see NHL teams play and the players of course....GO. It will be fun. And it will be a lot faster than college hockey. Plus the Sabres were the number 1 regular season team this year. But then we want the Sens to win the Cup , but then I am biased. :D

  15. Do you really think he is going to stay because he wont be offered a contract? If Lee or Toews stay it because they chose to stay. He might not get the cap like Toews, but I have to believe he has already seen an offer.

And why do you think Lee has seen an offer?

  16. Nice to see the blog with a direct quote from Brian. I certainly hope that puts all this b.s. to rest.

OTOH, there's a poster among us who certainly has the official word as to Ottawa's position regarding Brian Lee. I know that poster won't say anything to jeopardize her position of confidence, but perhaps she'll chime on with something.

I can't recall this amount of prolonged bad-mouthing of a Fighting Sioux player on these boards; ever. I think most of it

  17. Grew up within a block of the Lumberdome, playing a mediocre-to-bad game of hockey as a kid in little wheat-towns like Boissevain, Deloraine, Waskada, Killarney and others. Wonderful memories of the places and the people. (Cup-a-soup, Canadian moms serving sloppy joes, taffy, old wood rinks with that distinctive cold-air smell). Graduated UND in '75 and '92, living my adult life in places like Joplin Mo, S.F. bay area (LaHonda), Owatonna, Mn, and Wisconsin. I only wish the 'net had been around a little earlier so that I'd been able to follow college hockey better while living in hockey-starved places. Living in SF in the early eighties, I would have been thrilled to have been able to sit in fron of my computer and watch or listen to Sioux hockey whenever I wished.

Did you ever eat at Winkies in Kilarney? Or have a beer at the Border Bar between St. John and Kilarney? Oh yeah, the winter of '75-'76 was a long one...

  18. This should be a reminder to us all to stop what we are doing right now, grab our junk, and check for lumps.

Also, set yourself up for a physical if you haven't had one lately.

The best chance for a full recovery is early detection (I know!!) so don't think you're "fine" just because you feel fine. Get yourself checked out.

I'm sure Phil felt like he was indestructible, too.

Good information, chandler23. How come they don't have "johnsongrams" like women have "mammograms"... or would that just knock the wind out of you? Since I fall into the later "gram" I don't know, just posing the question. The Boston Bruins website has no updates on Kessel today.

  19. Well this is fun. Born in Bismarck, graduated UND '75; taught school in St.John, ND for one year (that was enough). Moved to the Cities in '76, married a Canadian in '80. Live in Eagan, MN. All of our daughters go to or will go to rival UND hockey schools....U of MN -TC, SCSU and next year the youngest will go to Madison. What can I say...they just didn't want to go to UND...blast them anyway! The only good thing is, I get to go to hockey games with my hubby when he scouts for Ottawa so I get around the WCHA abit.

  20. I have no profound, in-depth analysis about this series with wisco. Only this one simple theory: if this team continues to play like they did last Friday (especially in our own end), it will be a miserable weekend. I would go so far as to say zero out of four points. Sorry for being a "glass is half empty kind of guy" this morning. It is well past time to start playing "Fighting Sioux Hockey" on a regular basis, not just a period here or there. Hopefully they are firing on all cylinder's this weekend, and don't look back untill the end of the year.

Amen. It was a snoozer on Friday night.
