  1. I just have one question for everyone in here, who from the east has beat a team from the west this year? The east has had 5 chances and the only team to not lose was RR and they tied minot, i realize the east has bragging rights every year, and they deserve it, but show a little class and knowledge in your comments, south lost to bismarck, grafton got the crap kicked outta um by bismarck, and minot already beat central along with grafton this year. Do i think a west team will win it this year, probably not, but they at least deserve some respect, well at least minot and bismarck.

Bismarck dropped a game to Mandan. All respect lost. West Fargo managed to even pull that one off. Minot is the only one who gets a thread of respect from me, and all they'd get out here is 4th.

In the end Eastern schools have won 40 state championships to the western teams 1.

  2. Marto should should and will win. It'll be much closer anyway you look at it though. I don't see Aide winning any schools votes except Bismarck High, I can see Bair running the rest of the table. However everyone out east will vote for Marto giving him the win but close.

  3. McLean is definitely the best in the state, it was odd to me how he didn't get near the amount of credit he deserved all throughout. I coached him some 7-8 years back and I don't remember a bad game from him. Deichert isn't near the level of McLean and thats due to experience. When i coached him 6 years ago he was a defenseman, his first year in the cage was as a first year peewee. I like Welk good kid, not so good as a goalie faired well in his first year but so did WF's goalie from last year, the name slips me at this moment. It'll be interesting to see how Welk plays entering his senior year.

  4. Here's my theory on the state tournament and I am from the East.....Until someone beats Minot, they're the team to beat.  Everyone seems to be knocking the West because of how they've faired in the past, but until they lose, they're #1.  Central's got a chance, but they're going to need a quick goal against Minot to get some positive energy for the team.  Red River won't win it just for the simple fact that they don't want it as a team and the only reason they're even at the state tournament is because of some bogus penalties called by the refs(I was there).  They weren't the best team on the ice that day against North and shouldn't even be here.  Grafton and Bismarck are the sleepers in my opinion.  Grafton is a very solid hockey team right now that played South extremely tough in the East final.  If their one line can keep scoring and they get good goaltending, they got a shot to win it all.  Bismarck is in the same boat, even though they have 10 guys that have scored over 10 pts., they rely on their one line for the most part and their goalie, whos been solid.  But judging by the West final, the best they could hope for is another chance at Minot in the Finals.  Minot has beaten the quality teams from the East this year, so I think they get the nod right now as the favorites.  But they haven't played the East teams for quite some time and all 4 teams from the East are playing much better(maybe not RR) than they were around Christmas Time.  Let The Games Begin.

I realize I'm just a squirt hockey coach, but no chance in hell is a western team ever favored to win the state tournament until a drastic change occurs. If you think Minot can run the table against Grand Forks Central (approaching 40 state titles), Grafton (2nd most appearances in tournament history), and either Red River (never missed the state tournament) or Fargo South (#1 out of a league with previous stated teams, your just a mental midget. I will guarantee Minot goes 1-2 at best this weekend, if they don't come talk to me while I'm taking first out of 80 at the flyer tournament.

  5. Sorry to hear about your friend, I didn't personally know him but from reading his posts I could tell he liked to have fun. He'll be greatly missed I'm sure, best wishes to his family and all of his friends.

  6. Regional tournaments coming up, could lead to interesting match-ups. Right now it's looking like South will go into EDC as the #1, followed by Red River and Grafton. Now North has a slim chance but still a chance to overtake Central but the Knights win over Red River greatly bolsters their chance to wear white instead of maroon in the opening round. I've watched every team in the conference and I can see Jamestown and West Fargo surprising some people come the regional tournaments. This is the best Jamestown team I've seen come through in a while if they lock up at 6 you may see a potential upset over a young Grafton team. I may seem alone on this next surprise but maybe West Fargo can be 2005's Shanley at the regional. Malm's teams have came in flat previously and if WF falls into the 7 slot they could spring the upset. I've heard that they've find a diamond in the rough in Brady Houkom between the nets. This team isnt as bad as their record shows. They started the year with two or three one goal losses and if they win those games they'd be dancing in the .500 club with North and Jamestown.

  7. This team obviously doesn't want to be playing come tournament time. If UND chokes this away before the final five which is getting more and more realistic each day the scamming east coasters may look back to this 3-3 tie to a CHA (practically division II hockey if you ask me) and run the Sioux out. I don't wanna hear the injury and DUI excuses. It's a Wahpeton beating a Grafton type of situation, Bemidji State should be way out of their league when they come up here, not outplay the Sioux and get a tie.
