  1. TV Ratings

The facts cannot be ignored. The 2015-16 FCS National Championship football game had more national TV viewers than ALL 3 games of the 2016 Frozen Four college hockey  tournament.

    Frozen Four TV Ratings
    UND/Denver 361K
    BC/Quin 138

    UND/Quin 541K
    Total 1.04M

    FCS TV Ratings
    NDSU/Jack St. 1.40M

  2. There is nothing better than DI college basketball.  Wow, what a couple of great games tonight.  Wisconsin and Kentucky survived to move on to the
Final Four.  The teams, fans and viewers were hanging on by each possession.  No wonder it is called March Madness.  The TV ratings for the Kentucky & Notre Dame must be off the charts!!

  3. Gonzaga blew out Iowa by 20 points.  The TV announcers mentioned several times during the game that the tough game Gonzaga had against NDSU may help the Zags as they move forward in the tournament.  UNI is down by 8 early in the second half, don't know if they can come back against an athletic Louisville team.

  4. I believe that both UND & NDSU had interest in Olson, but not sure if the DI qualifications would have been met.  Heidelbach is a good baller, but has slow feet.  Good in open space when running but when stationary he gets beat every time on the first step by him.

  5. Back to the original post, having the Bison on KFYR/Clear Channel is huge. Not only for football, but also one basketball game per week. The tide has changed and this media change clearly demonstrates that NDSU athletics is indeed the premier program in North Dakota.

  6. OK Gabe Ruth, We're in year one of the transition and we have tough time getting home games. That's a viable excuse. You really shouldn't throw stones considering the two turds the Bi-son scheduled for the nonconference games. Austin Peay and Central Connecticut are pretty much crap and you'll more like than not add another turd because Bohl and Taylor aren't interested in scheduling any non-conference games that they might lose.

I disagree with your post. The Bison are doing the right thing by scheduling two turds for nonconference games, which by the way are still FCS opponents. Don't you know that the Bison's conference schedule includes 5 teams that were ranked and the Gateway is without question the best FSC conference around.

  7. You tell us. I thought it was Chapman & Taylor telling everybody that NDSU was a shoe-in for the Big Sky.

No doubt that the football conference situation worked out just great for Chapman & Taylor. What FCS school wouldn't want to be in the Gateway, the best conference in the division? Congrats to them for securing membership in this high profile conference. Good luck to NDSU and SDSU as they begin their "real" FCS football conference journey next season.

  8. I hope the hockey tournament went well. It's good that they have it in Grand Forks. There has been only minimial following or coverage anywhere else in the state. But that is to be expected I guess with no hockey interest from the general sports fan!! What was the attendance, the arena looked empty on the Thursday & Friday TV highlights?

  9. The love toward UND is well earned. Frankly...I don't understand why anyone that is totally in the Bison camp gives a rip about Sioux athletics because it's a blip on the SU screen. I find some of the discussions here to be amusing. It's kind of like watching fox....the bush war channel.

It is amusing, as alot of the topics on Bisonville aren't even about UND athletics. Did you see the two most recent about Kuppchella's parking ramp and UND's advertising efforts in Fargo. Does Grand Forks have a phobia about Fargo and Division I NDSU?

  10. Except for the fact that it was a ndsu fan trolling on here that started this rediculous thread. I already said it once in this thread. Go read bisonville and the thread after thread that is spent trashing UND and Grand Forks and then come back here and try to tell us who has the issues.

    :silly:

And look how many of the posts are from UND posters on Bisonville!! UND supporters must have issues judging by all of their posts on someone else's board!!

  11. I think you'd have to say that this was a pretty good year for North Dakota high school talent, judging by the number of signees thus far. UND signed eight; NDSU four; other NCC schools signed three; and so far, eight more have signed with NSIC schools (Mary hasn't announced yet). Bubba signed two (Zack Winkler from North Border and Jamie Sigl from Bismarck); while Wahpeton's Cole Zarak signed with Augie. I don't know to what extent, if any, UND recruited Winkler, Sigl or Zarak.

UND recruited all four that signed with the Bison no doubt, and wanted the other three that signed with other NCC schools. You don't want to lose in-state talent to programs like Duluth & Augie!!

  12. Being the topic is recruits, here are the verbals to-date for NDSU.

    Michael Arndt, LaMoure ND

    Landon Smith, Dickinson Trinity ND

    Matt Anderson, Cavalier ND

    Lee Vandal, Rolla ND

Mike Brown, Larimore ND (NDSCS Wahpeton)

    Matt Gratzek, Stephen-Argyle MN

    Chris Wellenstein, Centerville SD

    Christian Dallas, (NDSCS Wahpeton)

Seems like a good group of instate and regional recruits!!

  13. There will be more Alumni that become involved in UND athletics because of the DI move. The money will be a factor though as you have stated.

There are a few Sioux jackets and sweatshirts in the crowd at Bison football games.

Check out the Circle of Champions and Teamakers donators in the Bison football and program guides, one of the top contributors is a UND graduate. His reasons, are DI and the professionalism of the NDSU staff!!

  14. Being the topic is recruits, here are the verbals to-date for NDSU.

  15. I think these figures demonstrate that a Division I move by UND isn't the huge leap that many naysayers make it out to be. We would be competitive right away with division I mid- majors in women's basketball and would soon be in men's basketball. Football would be competive at the I-AA level immediately. We need to do this as soon as possible before NDSU gets too far ahead of us. The fact is if we continue to play with the UMC- Crookstons and UMary's of the world, while they're playing Montana it's only a matter of time before the casual ND sports fan starts placing the quality of their athletic program ahead of ours. As a former Sioux athlete who was a part of teams that routinely beat the Bison this thought truly bothers me. Moving up is in UND's best interest and if we continue to remain Division II we almost certainly will begin to sacrifice the success of our revenue sports (football, BB), so that our non- revenue ones can prosper against marginal competition.

The separation between the Bison and Sioux programs has been and will continue to widen amoung the fans of the region and state. Statewide TV coverage of Bison football against Montana St. at the same time UND is playing Duluth. Local sportscasts showing the Bison mens basketball score against Kansas St. and then the UND score against Minot St. The top instate football recruit signing with the Bison even though all of the factors were in UNDs favor. Just a few examples to show that the separation between the athletic programs of these two fine institutions is real.

  16. Depends on which poll you "believe"...

    UND @ 161 - Wolfe's College Football

    GVSU @ 121 (Top D-II)

    SVSU @ 132

    UND @ 161 - (7th Overall D-II)

    UNO @ 174

    USD @ 180

    UMD @ 197

    Hamptom @ 109 (Top DI-AA)

    UW-Whitewater @ 188 (Top DIII)

St Francis (IN) @ 241 (Top NAIA)

Way at the bottom...it also shows the NCC to be the TOP-RATED DII conference.

The only DII polls that matter are the regionals and next-years pre-season number one.

No NCC teams in the DII regional finals? Doesn't that mean that there were eight teams still playing?

  17. NDSU sure doesn't need the cash from a bison-undII game. Next year the Bison have Montana St. and Northeastern (Rocky Hager) at home for football, and Kansas St. & Manhattan at home for men's BB, and Minnesota & Wisconsin-GB for women's BB. Who is comparable on undII's schedule?

The Bison are DI and UND is DII. There won't be any games in the major sports until they are both in the same division. It's that simple! The U of Mary should try and get on the Bison schedule as well, what is the difference between them and undII?

  18. I rather be a guppie or minnow with big fish like Montana St. and Southern Illinois in football and Minnesota, Wisconsin, Manhattan, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Kansas St. and Colorado St. in men's and women's basketball. Those are teams on 2005-2006 Bison schedule for the MAJOR sports of football and basketball.

Except for the conference issue, the move by NDSU to DI has been very successful and will continue to grow. One example was last year's individual contributions and corporate sponsorships to Teamakers of over a million bucks.

The move to DI by NDSU was indeed brilliant, as now their competition is with their peer DI institutions as mentioned above, not the Moorhead St's, Crookston's and Mary's of DII. NDSU has an association with peer DI institutions in ALL sports.

I'll send my contribution to NDSU, the minnow in the DI POND, rather than UND, the big fish in the DII PUDDLE!!

For the majority of sports fans, all that matters is who you play in football and basketball.

  19. Just because UND schedules those schools in a minor DI sport of hockey doesn't mean that they will be scheduled in in the big-time sports! Nor could they care less if Bollinger is on the staff.

NDSU men's basketball has games scheduled against major DI programs like Minnesota, Wisconsin, Kansas St. and Colorado St. for the 2005-2006 year. And the NDSU men's football team will probably be playing the Gophers in the Metrodome in 2007.

Talk is cheap, the Bison schedule shows that they are DI, not only in minor sports, but football and basketball as well. Can you say Minnesota, Wisconsin, Kansas St. and Colorado St. in men's basketball?
