  1. What a tremendous honor. I am glad that he didn't get screwed by not playing in the the WHL. There was some talk that Hockey Canada was going to blacklist Toews from wearing the maple leaf because he elected to go the NCAA route instead of playing major junior. He is the only #1 overall in the Bantam Draft to not play in the W.

He and Kessel are going to be watched very closely. Who are some of the other 2006 draft elligible players to watch?

what color is the sky in your world.

guess you havent figured it out that canada hockey picks the best players in the world no matter where they play. your so called blacklist is laughable. ha ha. not sure if you know this but the head of hockey canada bob nicholson played ncaa hockey, so are you telling me he would blacklist the league that helped him get an education and furthered his hockey career. did you not learn how big hockey is in canada from the junior tournment being here. if canada did not ice the best team possible no matter what tournment it was there would be public outrage.

  2. That works fine on smaller ice, but by contrast, Wayne Gretzky & Co. realized that it would never work so well on Olympic ice. When Canada fared poorly at the '98 Olympics, they did so with grinders like Rob Zamuner, Keith Primeau and Shayne Corson on the roster.

When the Salt Lake Olympics rolled around, Gretzky put together a team of the best skaters and skill players, period. Of course, you still have to be careful to choose the correct skill players, guys who will still accept lesser roles, perhaps as penalty killers or late-game checkers.

Ya but that gretzky guy is biased agianst ncaa players he only took 5 players on that team. what, was he trying to win gold, thats kind of selfish dont you think he should only take ncaa players.

  3. Losing your third leading scorer i wouldnt call that minor, especially when women's hockey does not have depth yet. I counted ten games of two goals or less and with Dianoski in the line up that would take some of the scoring presure of the Wooster's and teams would have more then one line to worry about. Hopefully some of those one in two goal games will be wins in the second have with Dianoski and Connelly back in the line-up.

  4. I am not sure anyone has considered that the womens team is playing without two of its top players from last year which could be contributing to some of these loses. Melissa Dianoski, and Sarah Connelly havent played for whatever reason this season and where both key players on last years team. There have been alot of one and two goal games and with these two players in the line up maybe some of those loses and ties would be wins. Hopefully they will be back in the line-up for the second half and build towards the playoffs.

  5. Ok ok...

The bias exists only to satisfy me in case Toews doesn't make it and to explain why Murray had to become a US citizen to participate in the WJCs and why Zajac didn't make the team. ;)

We'll see what happens to those 5 invitees.

To explain why Murray had to become a US citzen to participate is quite simple. He had to tryout to make the Canadian team and instead of doing that he decided to take a gauranteed spot on the USA team. And why Zajac didn't make the world junior team was because the Canadian team last year was a allstar team and might go down as one of the best Canadian jr teams ever, so not sure where the bias for not taking Zajac comes from. And for the sake of argument do you watch alot of Canadian Major Junior hockey to know the skill level of players taking ahead of these players.

  6. Murrays situation last year? Seems the Canadian national team didnt gaurantte Muarry a spot they dont do that, you have to try out for the team. He was gaurantted a spot on the USA team so he took it, so how is there a bias to college hockey there.

Zajac? I am not sure if you are aware but there is a NHL lockout so the talent pool is that much better for teams to choose from so Zajac I doubt will even be invited to the final tryouts, and even if there wasnt a lockout its not like Zajac is setting the league on fire. Dont see a bias there either.

The other thing that was blown out of proportion last year was when USA won the gold medal, the media calling it a MIRACLE 2. It wasnt a MIRACLE team USA was favored to win the tournament and the desereved to. To compare the USA junior team winning over a Canadian team they where picked to finish higher then is not a Miracle. Usa was the better team. Ya beating maybe one of the greatest Russian hockey teams ever with the roster on the USA team that year was a Miracle. It doesnt give the Usa junior team the credit they deserve when you call it a Miracle when they won.
