  1. A little correction to your post: He played 2 years of Bantams. His 1st year he was peewee eligible. His 2nd year he was a 1st year bantam age-wise. It was this year that he was up for Bantam Player of the Year. He was never "old" as a Bantam, he was always on the young side. This year at Red River, he was still eligible for Bantams. Doesn't turn 16 until August (I think). That being said, he has always been way more physically mature than anyone his age and most kids 2-3 years older than him all throughout association hockey. He is still a beast, but boys are closing the gap physically.  He has alot of hockey in front of him prior to UND and will be just fine!

  3. Heard a rumor that I haven't been able to find information on that I'm wondering if true?  I heard at coaches meeting in Florida last week that prospects can no longer visit with coaches until 1st day of Junior year. If true, would this will eliminate the under-agers from committing (which I don't think it is all bad)?  No more "unofficial visits" either before this date.  Anyone else heard anything like this?

Jake Schmaltz a 3.75 Star recruit.  That’s as low as I can remember.  Do we have any other sub 4 recruits?

I take alot of NZ reports with a little more than a grain of salt. Alot of these kids are rated on 1 or 2 games. An off night, injury, etc... and a kid can end with a lower score.  I think Berry & Co. know what they are getting and what role these kids will play much more than some schmuck from NZ after watching for a night or two. Just my opinion. Of course, the 4.5 & 5 star players are a can't miss that anyone with an untrained eye could call.

Biondi & Smith (both Duluth commits) have declined NTDP offer. Very possibly could create an opening for Kunz?

Three other Minnesotans accepted Kelley (Duluth), Gallatin  (Duluth), Faber (Notre Dame)

Confirmed that he did not make the team (as of today, could change if more back outs). The thought is he will either return to RR or play in the USHL next year. USHL draft is in early May.

  7. Thanks for response!  Bought it....actually very happy with picture quality (cameraman goes a little crazy at times). Just wish I could get the sound synchronized with picture as I am sending to TV. 4-5 second delay in picture and sound. If I was watching off computer, would be very pleased.

  8. Given all the connections between current and recent graduate EGF high school players and UND, that would be bizarre if true.

I don't doubt there's a certain segment of the long-time EGF population that resents Grand Forks, and by extension North Dakota and possibly even UND. However, what's the ratio of UND to UM grads in EGF? 20 to 1? 50 to 1? Maybe even higher? And how many EGF kids have ever played at UM in hockey? Any? None that I'm aware of. But I do remember Mishler, Bowen, Riendeau, Tyler Palmiscno, etc. Not to mention athletes in other sports such as Vonesh, Zeller, Perkins, Lueck, Brekke, etc.

The reality is that unless somebody is a UM grad living in EGF, the fact that there are two EGF grads playing at UND, with another on the way, plus one on the women's team, should be enough to prefer UND over the Gophers.

Craig Mack -- '83 EGF grad played for Gophers
