11-20 for 179 and 2 TD is the best performance you have seen in the last 4 years? Come on...... I get you're a big AZ fan by all your posts and you apparently have some sort of grudge against the staff (maybe just a coincidence to the first part) but not even close.

I actually think AZ (or Boltman) probably could have provided a spark in the last game as he has a tendency to take chances and what they were doing wasn't working but then again, when you have 3-4 defenders in your face before you've even completed your drop-back or hand-off, it doesn't really matter who's under center.

And just because the recently removed OC said the QB's were neck and neck doesn't mean all coaches felt the same way or that it was anything more than coach-speak.

I believe Zimm's stats in that game were for the second half, correct?  If so, do the math.  And it's not just all about stats.  You could see then entire offense spark up when they finally saw a guy with the ability to get the ball down the field.

I'm not a big fan of Zimm's any more than I am of any other player, I'm a fan of the Fighting Hawks.  I simply want to see the team win.  My post wasn't just about the last game, go back several weeks and see what I said then.

My grudge about the staff is that they are knuckle heads starting at the top.  The second half of the season speaks for itself.

Wonder if UND looked like they gave up because they were frustrated with the guy they voted to be captain not getting a shot in a game where it was clear Kett wasn't getting it done.  Putting Zimmerman in could have really given the team a shot in the arm.  Missed opportunity to change momentum in the game.  Very narrow minded decision by Bubba.

Zimm's performance last year when he got in after Studs went down was the best Sioux QB performance I have seen in 4 years.  And talk was he and Kett were neck and neck through fall camp.  So the coaching staff road right along with Kett as he went down the cliff.  This is 100% on Bubba.

You constantly hear people commenting about how Siouxsports users overreact about coaching and about UND teams. But I couldn't disagree more

Grand Forks and UND hold their teams to high standards because it's a winning community. This is great tradition to have and be involved in. If people weren't pissed, then that's when you should start worrying. We care and have high expectations and that's a good thing in my opinion.

UND ended the season 6-5 which on paper doesn't look glaringly bad, but it absolutely does not tell the story of the season. This season very clearly exposed the worse than poor coaching UND has and something needs to change immediately.

The same team at the beginning of the year that was giving a very good FBS team Washington a run for their money into the 4th quarter, was unable to run or throw the ball against a very very poor NAU team that had already curled up and died for the year. The HUGE regression this team took week after week after week is 100% on the coaching staff and is absolutely inexcusable at this level. To cut them slack I would love to say that a lot of the other Big Sky teams got better as the year went on and UND just stayed flat, so Bubba needs to clean things up...but that is absolutely NOT true. NAU was a poor team to begin with and they were at the lowest point of their season and they STILL piss pounded UND. That just shows how badly UND back-peddled. I have never seen anything like it. I legitimately think that whatever coaching style they're using somehow actually made every player worse, especially on offense. Everyone seemed so scared to do anything out of the ordinary. The offense looked slow, predictable, scared, tentative and indecisive. Thinking about the QB and OL showing on Saturday just makes me sick and I don't even want to get started on that. Having that many weapons on offense and having that poor of a showing is unreal. It seems like there is a giant bottle neck at Rudy and Bubba that is letting all this talent rot away. I feel bad for the SRs that had to play for this team as they were all made into slightly worse players over their years at UND. I feel even worse for the players still stuck there now. I wouldn't blame them for leaving to another school where they want to develop forward and not be sucked backward. It's 2018 and UND needs some new younger energy that's up with the latest and greatest training strategies and play calling philosophies.

I will have very minimal support for this team if no changes are made this off-season. These coaches are pathetic

This might be the best assessment of this season and the coaching staff I have see yet.  Did you see the players looking at each other on the sidelines last Saturday?  It was like "here we go again".  They have seen it time after time, and you could see it on their faces.

Rudolph picking Kett does not mean he’s better than the others.

And if Rudolph had the authority and assignment to select the starter, then this program is even more turned around than we can possibly imagine.  Bubba is the CEO, should listen to the evalutations of his assistants, but the call to pick the starting QB has to be his and his alone.  That is not something you defer to a coordinator.

Hopefully some of Kett's issues could be attributed to simple frustration with the man behind the mic in his helmet. That problem is easily solved and should've been taken care of before this season.

Wishful thinking.  His decison making and situational awareness just isn't there.  Instincts don't look good, but I don't disagree with your observation about the OC.

if they "all" get fired...everyone gets fired...fruend included and baukol too...and every secretary....100% clean slate.

Starting at the top with Bubba.  Bringing in new assistants is going to do nothing.  The entire culture needs a clean reset, and that starts with the HC.  This is the perfect time to do it heading into the MVFC.  They should be saving a substantial amount of travel expense which could be used to buy out Bubba.  Take the hit now, clean house, and put a program in place to compete in the MVFC.

Rudy needs to be gone. Kostich needs to be gone. Gotta evaluate Schmidt. Bubba needs to look at early retirement.

It all starts at the top.  Bubba has to go and they need to clean house now.  The entire attitude of the program has to change, and this is a great time to do it going into the MVFC.

No chance this inept coaching staff will bring in a new QB. They should have done it earlier in the game and didn’t. They certainly won’t now.

They should have done it after week 4 when his regression became obvious.  How could Bubba let's this continue all the way through the season.  It is a perfect expample of his mindset.  We are going to be the bottom of the barrel in the MVFC unless Bubba goes soon.  They need to get a new guy in fast with a new scheme so he can start recruiting.  What good offensive skill players would join this program as it is?

Our guys need to wake the !@#$ up. The announcers can even tell that they’re flat. How the hell can you be flat with what’s at stake? That’s on Bubba.

The players have zero confidence in the Bubba and the coaching staff.  They know they are being out coached every week.  Bad personell decisions, inability to adapt, combined with an antiquated offensive scheme.

So you’re suggesting you know better than the coaching staff? That’s a bold move, especially on this website.

If you think Ketteringham is the reason UND lost to Washington, Idaho State, and/or Weber State, AND it’s not the defense, special teams, offensive linemen, or skill position players making mistakes also, AND the schemes and play-calling is already at a winning level, then sure, I guess go with Zimmerman.

The thing is, UND did not lose 3 games because of solely Ketteringham. UND did lose 3 games because multiple players and coaches did not execute their job to the level needed. UND does not currently have the offensive coaching, schemes, and play-calling for quarterbacks to put up big numbers and play mistake free football.

So, all things considered, Zimmerman going in wouldn’t change anything major. Don’t play musical chairs with quarterbacks - that NEVER works and I’m steadfast on that. Allow Ketteringham to grow in the Rudolph offense (if that’s possible) and continue to gain valuable experience.

No where in any of my posts do I suggest that the losses were Kett's fault.  What I am saying is that Kett, Zimm and Boltmann all have the tools.  These guys are all teamates, and the goal of everyone is to win games.  So when one guy is erratic, why not give one of the others a shot and see what he does in a game situation.  And I am not suggesting playing musical chairs at the QB position.  What I am saying is get your athletes on the field in a game, evaluate them in real time, and see if one of them rises to the top.  Our offense would lose nothing to give Zimm  or even Boltmann a half to see what they can do.  It would also help prepare them should the guy ahead of him go down.  As to the coaching staff, they have shown an inability to deviate or shake things up time after time and demonstrated blocked headedness not just as to who is playing but in game planning.

He makes about 2-3 bad passes per game and they usually happen when he is rushed and throws off his back foot.  If he can mentally catch himself in those situations and either throw it away quickly or take the sack (or try to scramble) UND will be much better off as an offense.

D1 starting QB's don't continually make those same mistakes game after game and continue to start for long.  There is too much depth and competion.  They all have the tools or they wouldn't be there.  At this point what is happening is between their ears.  Did anyone notice the difference between Kett and Weber's QB last week as to decision making and scanning the secondary looking for the open reciever?  Their guy had his eyes downfield going through his progressions, and ours was missing open guys while he was locked into his primary often throwing into double coverage.  Kett has the tools but he needs to be coached up, or they need to see who else at the position can play in game time situations instead simply evauating them in practice situations.

Ketteringham is one of the best quarterbacks UND has had in a while. He needs more experience, weapons, and better play-calling, which he will hopefully get as time goes on. Get off the damn Zimmerman bandwagon

All this conjecture doesn’t surprise me, though. You know what they say about who everyone’s favorite player is? (Hint: it’s not the starter).

It's the coaching staff who makes the decisions as to who is going to play as we know, and if you recall, last year Heidlebaugh ahead of Zimm.  I probably don't have to remind you what that !@#$ show looked like when Studs went down.  Heidlebaugh looked like a deer in the headlights had never played QB in his life.  So please don't suggest that the coaching staff always plays the best guy at each position.  Another example is this year at NG.  The opening depth chart had Morrison ahead of Greer, so take another look at that coaching call after the spring and fall camps after 8 games. The coaching staff consistently makes decisions and puts the blinders on.  They have no ability to look left or right or take a chance by shaking things up.  You should stop drinking the cool aide and open your eyes to all of the possibilties around taking some chances moving personnel around.  Kett may get better with experience, but so far this season he continues to make the same mistakes.

He seems to run very hot and cold.  He makes some very good plays at times and other times some really poor decisions.

This is a big part of the problem with the offense.  Kett is good for 3 or 4 bonehead plays per game, which can easily turn the game in the wrong direction if they happen at the wrong time.  He continues to stare down his primary reciever and telegraph his throws.  Zimm should get some game time reps or a half just to see what he can do with the clock running, but the coaching staff keeps the blinders on once a decision has been made.

The secondary is in a good place right now. Holm has been the best player for UND so far this year, hands down. Blubaugh looks much improved which is to be expected. He was thrown to the fire last year, he had potential but you could very much tell he was a freshman. It gives me confidence in the D-backs coach to be able to get these young players to improve. It also gives me a bit more confidence in the strength training staff right now. I also like the improved strength of the offensive line. Last year they got pushed around, this year we're getting quite a bit more push. I don't think I've seen a QB sneak fail yet this year and that speaks volumes to the initial push of the center and guards.

Another bright point for me has been the play of Noah Larson, he has been fantastic and it's easy to see why the coaches were so high on him even last year. Of course Mason Bennett is an absolute terror to opposing QB's, and I have so much respect for what Steve Greer is doing this year. He has been a beast in the middle of that defense.

Our D backs and linebackers were all over their recievers all game and making tackles on first contact.  Greer had another good game like he has had all year dispite limited reps.  Notice how he laid out and cuffed the QB's ankles on his sack and popped right back up on his feet.  Pretty athletic for 320 lbs.  He should be getting the majority of the reps at NG until and unless something changes.

Not sure what you saw on Zim last year, likely a stronger arm than Keaton but KS was the better QB and I'm not sure its that close. As for the "coach speak" it is what it is, I've heard it wasn't ever really that close but no reason to declare a starter before you have to.

Thought 77 did a good job out at UW, but he was definitely gassed in the 3rd and 4th (not blaming him, he played a lot of reps against some big guys). Didn't pay attention to what the rotation (or lack of one) but to say 92 hasn't earned the starting role and more reps is a bit much. They'll both be needed going forward, defense wasn't on the field a whole lot Saturday, guys were fresh.

It wasn't just what the coaches were saying, but guys who were going to the practices.  Last year when Zim came in, I had just sat back down in front of the tv to watch the second half.  Didn't immediately notice the qb change, but within the first set of downs, I said who is this kid.  Zim had very good footwork in the pocket, was scanning the entire secondary looking for open recievers, and dropping balls into spots.  Looked like a totally different offense to me.  Studs was definately a good leader, very tough, pretty good runner, but not smooth in the pocket with his footwork, and sometimes had trouble with screens and short throws.  Often locked into his primary reciever just like Ketteringham is doing this year.  My only point is unless one guy is heads and shoulders better than another, get him in the game and see what he does real time. Some guys play better in game situations than they practice as we know.

Regarding 77, some guys physically mature at different times.  Greer has gotten bigger and stronger the last couple of years.  Take a look at his play last year against Utah and this year against Washington.  He was all they could handle against offensive linemen from big time programs.  He is consistently pushing double teams back into the pocket, and I'm not seeing anything special out of Tank this year or last, so get him equal game time reps and see what happens.

Also, I posted some comments about 97 Morrision playing out of position.  Watched the few reps he got last week, and I stick to my earlier comments.  That said, he has good feet and runs well, nice stride for a big guy.  Wonder what he would look like in a little more space, either on the edge or in the middle at the second level.  That kid looks like an athlete, and if I were King, I would move him around a little and see how he looks.  Unfortunately, the coaching staff sold everyone and themselves that he's a NG, and they once that take a position on a player or scheme, that's it.  I just hope he doesn't loose his ju ju getting the !@#$ beat out of him by 300+ linemen in the middle.

    Go Hawks!

Right cuz the coaches purposely play the worse guy.

These coaches are notorious for picking a player a staying with him no matter how the circumstances change.  I've commented on this before.  They did it last year with Studs after Zim came in and did things Studs was never capable of doing.  They are doing it again this year with Ketteringham.  His play has been below average all year.  Everyone, including the coaching staff, said it was almost too close to call after the spring and fall.  Why would you not give Zim a shot and see what he can do in a game?  Shake things up a little and get guys competing.  Nothing to lose and evertying to gain.

Regarding Greer, SJG had it right earlier.  Just look at the tape, one play at a time, and focus on the NG.  Greer is consistently pushing his doubleteams back into the pocket making the QB uncomfortable and providing opportunities for our edge guys to chase the QB down.  He is clearly much stronger than Tank.  Look what he did in the Washington game, and the coaches come right back next game and start 92.  At an absolute minimum, 77 and 92 should split the reps, then break the film down and grade each performance.

    Jaelen Johnson.  Not Jalen Morrison.

If you are going to disparage a kid at least get the right one.

My bad, I meant Morrison.  And I'm not disparaging him, the coaches have him playing the wrong position.  Look at the film.

Jaelen Johnson is a name und fans should keep an eye on. Attended a few a practices and he definitely has the look and ability just a tad underweight.  Has great feet and positioning.  With it sounding like zeke will be out (damnit.....damnit!) I think Jaelen will get some time.  Not sure if the coaches will pull his shirt ....maybe play him the four games and  keep him shirted ?  Regardless...the kid has talent.

Jaelen Johnson hasn't gained any wait in almost 2 years, and needs to gain 30 to 40 lbs fast if he's going to play NG.  He hasn't won a 1 on one yet this year, much less being able to take on double teams.  He was getting pushed back 5 yards consistently against IDS on one on ones.  He does have good feet, but coaches have him playing the wrong position.

As has been the case under Bubba, our team had no chin. After that fumble we folded it up. That TD pss to Wanzek was a terrible throw and should have been picked. Kett is not good, finally getting to see him throw in person yesterday was underwhelming. His arm isn’t as strong as people were saying. His mechanics are sloppy and leads to bad throws. His decision making is also suspect at times. I would like to see what Zimm would do. The team rallied around him last year. Why not give it a shot this year?

You hit the nail right on the head as to Ketteringham.  He was totally locked in on his primary receiver from the jump.  Telegraphed every throw. The Bengals saw that and adusted in at halftime.  All they had to do was watch his eyes and run to the spot.  Can't cound the number of times he threw straight into double and triple coverage.  Everyone said the competition between him and Zimm was almost too close to call in the spring and fall.  Zimm should be given a chance to see what he can do in a game.  Not expecting he gets a shot though.  This coaching staff makes a decision on a player and puts the blinders on the way they did with Studs last year and some other guys on defense this year.  Switching some guys up and giving them a shot is seen as an admission of making a mistake on their initial decision.  Easier for them to stick their heads in the sand and make excuses.

First off a huge tip of the cap to Steve Greer. He played his ass off yesterday and was disruptive all game. I’ve !@#$ on him in the past for not putting on enough weight and for being barely just a warm body even though I had expectations for him coming out of hs. He earned my respect yesterday and I hope he keeps it up all season.

The front seven was for real yesterday. Would have liked to see more than just pressure though. We need to actually get home and lay the wood on the qb.

The secondary was outclassed for most of the game. Harris moves better this week but still seems to be a liability. Blubaugh looks much improved from last year and has some dog in him, hopefully he can start to find the ball in the air now as he still struggles down field.

Overall, the d outperformed expectations for three quarters then ran out of gas thanks to the hapless offense.

It appears the o will only succeed when playing inferior competition. Toivonen is a D2 wr, I’m sure he works hard and is a good kid but he’s too damn slow. It’s inexcusable to not throw some speed in their. We needed one of the little guys in the slot to be a reliable outlet. The lack of aggression on offense yesterday was pathetic. We need to always be in attack mode on both sides of the ball.

The kicking situation is alarming to say the least. It’d be one thing if he was blasting the ball and just missing but the ball does not jump off his foot. It’s ugly and laborious. Kicking is like golf, a proper swing is fast and effortless and the ball should explode on impact. I am very concerned about this and agree with UNDbiz that it will most likely cost us a game or two which could mean watching the playoffs from home again. This is unacceptable. Gotta have a competent backup at all positions.

If the offense shows up next week we should be able to win.

Couldn't agree more as to Greer's play against UW and MVSU.  The more reps he gets the better he plays.  He held his own and then some on double teams all day yesterday against some of the best offensive lineman in the Country.  Clearly the strongest and toughest guy we have at the NG position.  Glad he is finally getting the reps to show what he can do.
