He wasn't Canadian or a QB so his chances of making the team were basically zero.  Especially since they drafted Brady.

Especially how the Bombers use their running back slots:

Starter, backup and practice squad players are all Canadian...  Throwing an American in there really screws up their ratio.

Any idea how Santiago stacks up at Winnipeg ?

He will be on the bubble.  My prediction is he will be a practice squad player.  If he found out his mom was actually Canadian he would be in the team.

Anyone else have any updates on how camp is going?

I haven’t been since the weekend but this weekend is a preseason game and it will show a lot where Santiago stands

I know they can obviously sign non Canadians, like Dressler, but for the draft is it only Canadians that can be drafted or can they draft anybody?

CFL draft is for Canadians only. For Americans l, each team gets a negotiation list of 50 players who could be in college or the NFL.    The players can be added or dropped at any point as long as they aren’t on another teams list.  If a player wants to come to the CFL and they are on a list the team must offer them a contract within two weeks or they are released.  These lists are generally kept quiet from the public.   If Americans aren’t on a list they can be signed as Free Agents.

Brady is at least a lock for the CFL.

$60,000 is a lot less than $450,000 but still getting paid for football and still a long shot opportunity for the NFL in future years.

Santiago certainly may hang around somewhere as RB's are highly valued

Someone did find out that 40% of UDFA did make NFL rosters between active and practice squad

Kinda disappointed the AFA folded. It was a good opportunity for FCS kids to get some attention at a higher level.

He will get more than that in the CFL. Entry level salaries are higher than entry level American salaries

Serious question.  Isn't Canadian College football a total joke??  I have never seen a game on, ever.  I don't watch the NFL draft that close, any Canadian College players taken?

There are several U of M players in the NFL

David Onyemata was taken in the 4th round by the Saints a couple of years ago.

Geoff Gray is on the Browns roster

Israel Idonije who played for the Bears, Browns and Lions and is recently retired pro is a U OF M grad

Plus tons of CFL players.  It’s certainly a program that can produce pros

    Do you have a source?

If this is true what the !@#$ is going on with UND and it's inabilities to sustain OL!?!  Rain, Grady, Merz....all three would of all been all conf to all American type players yet they all bail.   As much as I love bubba and UND football ( and always will) there is something that is  "off".  With the lack of keeping quality OL and the horrible OC that UND has....this system seems to be a fail....offensively.   They want a power offense (which I love and the type that succeeds)  but with no quality power up front and 175 lb back ramming it up the middle...not happening.   Add to that....no creativity....it all adds up to fail.   The lack of attempting to recruit  a quality qb in each class is another thorn in my ass.   Playing in the big sky for another couple years should make it look a little better without quality up front but once they enter the mvfc.....ouch!

    Majorly disappointed if true.

Sorry I don’t know how to post a source but it was on twitter from the U of M football team
