    Um ... pesky facts:

    Sr: 22
    Jr: 18
    So: 21
    RFr: 15
    Fr: 24

We've had a few transfers - so you're right. But the players who stayed are still not recruited by the current staff, and many times don't fit the system. The good players found other homes prior to the transition. You get a free pass to bail if the staff is let go.

In reality, only 3 years since he was hired a little over a month before his first signing day and you aren't exactly getting the pick of the litter when you get into the game that late. So "his" guys are RS-Sophs and younger right now with a few being juniors. While it's true, that is where your depth comes from, relying on a few of them to provide it is different than having over half of your starting roster being occupied by "depth" guys.

Also, don't forget how many players we lost during the transition! We had 15+ guys leave before Bubba was hired, and then a handful more after. It's their right to do so, but it has made our recent senior and junior classes super small.

Not really.   He just got out played by Studsrud.    Happens sometimes.

One of the most rational, level-headed comments I've read on this entire thread!

  4. Just a thought - have any of you actually met with ANY of the coaches and shared your concerns? Or is this just a place to come and complain, and feel like you could do better? As a fan, that considers themselves a true fan, I have taken the time to meet with several of the coaches. They have always been more than willing to talk ball with me, and help me understand their rationale.

This is a two-sided issue. While one can scream injuries, another can conveniently counter-argue with poor recruiting. I think the injuries were certainly unfortunate and bad luck to a degree, but it also showed that this coaching staff has dropped the ball on recruiting. Recruiting has to be much better.

You typically don't/can't expect an incoming player to play as a true freshman. It takes years in many positions to get down the plays and be strong enough to compete. There are situations where true freshman and redshirt freshman can be ready early, but that's few and far between. You see very little of this even at big DI schools.

I don't think anyone is saying the defense shouldn't be accountable, but that was where the bulk of the injuries seemed to be. Safety, Corner, LB. Hard to stop anyone when you are that thin.

That being said, I do think there needs to be more accountability in our recruiting at LB. Too many undersized converted safeties.

This thread is full of people calling for the head of an OC and OL coach, but on the line we had two redshirt freshman and two redshirt sophomores playing most of the year. That's a tough position to have young players, when your offense is designed to run the ball. Young players filling in for injured experienced players was happening on all sides of the ball, not just defense.

I don't think anyone was praising Rudolph.  His total lack of creativity and feel for the game is unbelievable.  He keeps no defense off balance ever.  Many here are totally frustrated that Bubba won't make any changes in this area.  I've said this before, but it is a joke in my section that everyone can call his next play with about 80% accuracy (sometimes more) - people even had bets on it.  Bubba has shown that he stubbornly refuses to change anything.  That's the frustration.

How is no one holding the defense accountable for giving up 40+ points a game? You all complain that Bubba is "too loyal" to his offensive coaches, but mention nothing about the defensive coaches! Bunch of one-sided talk.
