According to RPI for MBB The Summit is ranked #17 and Big Sky #29 out of 32 teams

According to RPI for WBB The Summit is ranked #11 and Big Sky #19 out of 32 teams

Get your statistic-backed argument out of here (but not until after it is pointed out that the Summit has had a better RPI each of the past 7 seasons in MBB).

But nothing for the women's sports and they charge that much?

I can speak for viewing road basketball games. Nearly all of the men's games will be broadcast on ESPN3, the women's games are rarely on ESPN3 unless it happens to be a Midco broadcast. Your WBB games at NDSU, SDSU, USD will likely all be on Midco, and I believe the only road game outside of those that was on ESPN3 was at WIU last year.

After that you have to get into the athletic websites of these schools. USD broadcasts all sporting events in high quality and free of charge but that is unfortunately an uncommon service in the Summit. IUPUI and ORU also offer free broadcasts of all sports, but the other six make you pay for a subscription. It's dumb and should be free as a service to their distant fans in my opinion.

Hope this deal goes through and you guys join a league or two that make much more sense.

Comparing common opponents from 2015 and this 2016 Weber State team paints a favorable picture for USD:

    USD 52 vs Drake 0 - UND 21 vs Drake 18
USD 24 at NDSU 21 - UND 9 at NDSU 34 (a game in which UND had 4 yards of rushing and 57 yards passing)
USD 27 at UC Davis 17 - UND 31 vs UC Davis 24
USD 52 vs Weber State 49 - UND 24 at Weber State 25

While the transitive property doesn't exactly apply to football it's hard to ignore how much better USD has fared against these recent common opponents.

Not sure how much value this holds as we transcend eras, but UND has won 12 straight games against USD in Grand Forks. Last time USD won there was in 1985. We also are a couple coaches removed from our last game with UND as the last matchup was in 2011 during Meierkort's last season. So yeah, it's been a little while since these teams have faced each other.

You like that? Awful lot of confidence on this board for a team that could only score 9 points against Stony Brook. I'll be making my first trip to Grand Forks this weekend. Not expecting anything but a cold shoulder from the fans, but I am expecting a tight game on the field. There will be lots of crow to be eaten here when Streveler effortlessly surpasses 100 yards rushing.

Another XDSU troll supplying his so-called wisdom.  How novel!  Their boards are full of posts about going FBS, but UND, even though it has more resources, can't.  Their hate never ends.

The idea of reviving WAC football by inviting a bunch of FCS schools is delusional. UND will not be going FBS. It's far more likely that we will see a restructuring of D1 football so that there are three levels and UND (plus other Dakotas) end up on the second tier.

Other than the fact the Slummit doesn't sponsor football.....

You apparently don't know anything about college athletics, conference affiliations, or UND.

You say UND has been hiding from ndsu and then claim you weren't trolling... :silly:

So the Big Sky suddenly won't allow football only members? Summit League makes infinitely more sense for all other sports so long as football isn't left homeless. I hope to see UND come to their senses and explore this option. Travelling between 800 and 1800 miles for every single conference road game makes no sense whatsoever.

Trolling is a pretty poor way to introduce yourself to the board. Continue to do so and your stay may be cut short.

If that's considered trolling then your president's response to this budget shortfall certainly won't go over well here. The Big Sky makes zero sense for UND when the Summit is an option.

  7. Welcome to the Summit League! You guys like to complain about it relentlessly, but the only somewhat legitimate gripe I've seen is the questionable stability. However UND joining would create a conference core of the 5 schools along I-29 with increased stability moving forward. You'll probably be able to keep your football in the Big Sky but for all other sports you'll enjoy greatly reduced travel costs, natural rivalries, a higher conference RPI, road games you can attend without taking a flight, plus a basketball conference tournament that is less than half the trip that you have to your nearest Big Sky opponent. You won't be able to hide from NDSU anymore, but I assure you the pros greatly outweigh all the cons of the Big Sky.
