So a default on our national debt- that would be a complete economic disaster that would make the last 8 weeks seem like a walk in the park.   What is it with conservatism/ libertarianism and the inability to think anything through?

Here's what gets us out of this..... Trump loses badly in November and much like Bush before him hands the keys to a house on fire to Biden and a Democratic majority Senate.  Democrats then take on the hard work of cleaning up the mess the Republican Party and Trump left for them, while the same Republicans take whatever actions possible to make economic recovery/ containment of the virus as difficult as possible.   Despite this, the virus is eventually contained and the economy turns around.   After which, the debt and deficit will be addressed and some folks taxes will have to go up, which will be a small sacrifice in comparison to the workers you're asking to die of coronavirus for the sake of our economy and "patriotism".

At some point, the economy will start doing so well that people will forget what a mess Republican governance looks like and elect another Republican president and Senate and we'll start the whole process over again.   Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

Ummmm, this is happening regardless of who is President.  Trump, Biden, Me, You, whoever.  The tax part would be a partisan decision, no doubt.

Just 27 new positives announced today for ND out of 2,145 tests done. One additional death.

I disagree.   Trump has proven himself incapable of improving our situation.   The last 8 weeks are all the evidence you need.   We've been shut down for 8 weeks and do we have adequate PPE to protect medical personnel against a surge in infections while also allowing other medical services and essential industries to return? No.   Do we have sufficient testing nationwide to be able to implement contact tracing? No.   Do we have even a plan in place for contact tracing? No.

We have a bunch of boondoggle stimulus plans that were poorly implemented and continue to be misrun and the presidents grifter son-in law in charge of the medical supply chain.

We're not operating in a vacuum.   Germany, South Korea, New Zealand, Canada are all managing this better than us.   That's entirely due to them having responsible competent governance, while we have the miserable failure that is the Trump admin.

Completely agree on the default statement. That would be disastrous.

Disagree on one party being the hero and the other a failure.  neither is either.  That’s a pretty warped viewpoint.  The concept of the chief executive or congress as the Driver of economic prosperity is like attributing a great meal to the olive oil.

Not all States are created equal.  CA is beating Germany and Canada in deaths per million.

contact tracing...is the goal elimination of the virus?  I’ve never heard that as a goal, because it’s an impossibility.

The Tanzanian president said he sent the samples to Tanzania's own state run health agency - not The WHO, and claims they came back positive.  This has not been verified.

He then suspended the head of the lab.  He is in a fight with opposition parties regarding the number of COVID cases in the country which they say he is under-counting.

He is also is touting a herbal tonic from Madagascar that is medically unproven as a treatment for COVID19.  Previously his plan to was to pray the virus away.

So we can't trust the WHO and we can't trust the CDC. The NIH was funding the Wuhan lab so we can't even trust them. What health organizations can we trust?

I did not say default.

I said void US debt held by China.

And there's a difference: one is can't pay; one is won't pay.

Keep paying the rest.
The world would see the difference.
Heck, the world would probably follow suit.

No doubt he’s a goofball, but I read it was the WHO and he kicked them out of Tanzania.  Is that fake news?

East Grand Forks just cancelled their June hockey camps.........80% of deaths are elderly/long term care patients but the young people that are almost entirely unaffected by Covid keep paying the price.

It was meant more for those that don't have one of the best 10 year old hockey players on the continent.  A little different deal comparing local camps....full of local kids....versus invitationals that involve flying kids in from around the us and Canada

While I completely disagree with any of these cancellations, I can at least see, given the hysteria, planning, travel, teams from all over the place, many teams wouldn't go or couldn't go... that those  tournaments would be cancelled.  Cancelling local events is absolutely nuts.  Sign a fricking waiver and gets go.

I checked a few articles that all said it was his own health dept that did the testing and used Africa CDC test kits.  None of them mentioned WHO but who knows what is true anymore.

I'm not real familiar with T bond trading.  Are they not frequently traded on the open market?  Would we be able to identify and nullify only the China-held bonds?  Would we be able to prevent the sale of the China-held bonds to others around the world?  Assuming this all takes planning, would we be able to act and lock down the market before China finds out and launches a fire-sale?  Would other countries holding America's debt trust that we would not do the same to them in the future?  The idea of punching a hole in China's bank account while making our balance sheet better sounds nice, but how feasible is it while maintaining our financial system?

Only thing you could do is freeze payments to Chinese investors.  They would dump those bonds then, driving the price down.  At a certain yield it would paralyze our ability to issue more debt, because we’d have to up the yield at par I.e high interest...  Then everything that’s pegged off us treasuries would be impacted.  Including stocks and commodities and mortgages.

It would devastate the world economy.
