2020 Dumpster Fire (Enter at your own risk)

Recommended Posts

So to recap before things get rolling in ND at 800 am. 19 total COVID deaths, 30 total current inpatients, under 4% positive rate of testing, going to be 75 degrees in Fargo today but kids still can't use the outdoor playgrounds, 2 tables at 6' apart of 10 people each is permissable in a bar but HS softball, baseball or soccer practices are not, 74000+ in this state are currently unemployed and finally no one is mandated to go anywhere, do anything or interact with anyone if they choose not to.

I have no problem with gradual opening of business's.

When you go out there is no need to wear a mask/it does not protect you from the virus/only others and who cares about others?

So you oppose Naziism but are in favor of locking people inside their homes and forcing them to wear masks if they go outside...

Anyone else see the irony here?

Stay away from cliffs!

No one is being locked in their homes or forced to wear mask.  I spent all day yesterday outside without a mask and will do the same tomorrow.  I can understand your unwillingness not to wear a mask/it does not protect you from the virus/it protects others/who cares about others?

It protects others if you think you are actively shedding virus...if you have zero reason to believe you are actively shedding virus and aren’t interacting with a  Highly vulnerable person, then a mask is overkill.

On the other topic:

Naziism was the German socialist workers party- It’s rise was fundamentally economic driven by the failure and ultimate disbandment of the Weimar Republic.  This led to fierce nationalism , a police state, and ultimately mass murder and war.

the collapse of democratic principles and a republic is easiest in a crisis as public sentiment moves from “freedom to” to “freedom from”...civil liberties go first...they did in Germany in 1933 too.  The end stage of the third Reich is when they moved to death camps.  In the beginning it was more loosely controlled...

My apologies if this was discussed earlier in this thread, but the current virus numbers from Singapore show a mortality rate there of .09%. If accurate, that would be pretty amazing.

I stumbled across this today. From the NYT

Quote

At more than 25 universities and clinical centers around the world, researchers have begun clinical trials, primarily in health care workers, to test whether a live tuberculosis vaccine that has been in use for 99 years called the bacillus Calmette-Guérin, or B.C.G., vaccine, could reduce the risks associated with the coronavirus.

Another small but esteemed group of scientists is raising money to test the potential protective effects of a 60-year-old live polio vaccine called O.P.V.

From the article.

Dr. Donald Yealy based it partly on studies of levels of coronavirus antibodies detected in people in New York and California, and partly on COVID-19 deaths in the Pittsburgh region. The studies found that 5-20% of people had been exposed to the coronavirus, with many noticing only mild illness or none at all, he said.

So, if this is true, doesn't it appear that many have already been exposed to the virus? Wouldn't that mean, maybe we're getting past this?

I am ready to take the antibodies test whenever it's available.

The sad truth is that President Trump, who called the virus a hoax, could have prevented 90 percent of those deaths.

China supposedly shut down the spread with activities that reportedly included welding the infected inside their homes.   You can certainly control a pandemic with actions like that...but I personally would rather die myself of covid than to see that type of government tyranny.

I don’t believe it’s behaved that way yet (by either party) In no small part due to the key variable (the economy) being strong up until the Covid crisis.

Nationalism has been on the rise that is true.  Police State has been a bubbling threat since 9/11.  Mass murder hasn’t occurred domestically- but you could argue it has internationally by our hand, war has been omnipresent again since 9/11.

Civil liberties now under fire by all parties...

I don’t believe it’s Trump’s doing, I believe he happens to be the guy in the chair as we hit another trigger point on a 2 decade decline of the Principles of the American Experiment.

What happens next should be watched closely.

Yes we should.

I hope you are right.

It is worrysome that the free press is under attack.

That people who disagree with the administration (previousl known as dissatents) are fired.

Quite sure there are other examples.

This is how it all began.
