Omaha @ UND -- Friday Gameday

Recommended Posts

Omaha had a good recruiting year. Good young coach and talent.  Will be a better second half team.  Sioux need to stick together. Bubba took a reasonable chance pulling the goalie.

Omaha wanted this one more.  You could see it on the forecheck, the backcheck and in the circles.  When you are playing a superior opponent and you get some puck luck, just play hard and disrupt.  It works.  It frustrates the hell out of top end players who want flow and hockey.  That said Omaha has some good speed.  They were hard on pucks and hard on bodies.  This is exactly what this team needed right now.  Get beat for not playing hard hockey.

I agree. As a Tigers fan, I’ve long out grown moral victories but in this case with UND, they got humbled and beaten by a UNO team who simply wanted it more and it showed. Hopefully this is a good teachable lesson for UND.

As Wilbur said, I have no problem with pulling the goalie in that situation, but put him at the circle until you gain possession.

We lost because our goalie who's been a stud all year had an off-night, and Omaha out worked us.

I have 2 beefs with Brad tonight:

1.  He should've hooked Scheel after the 3rd goal

2.  He should've waited for possession to pull Thome

Gotta go back with Scheel tomorrow.......but 4 consecutive marginal to poor outings then it's Thome Friday at Miami.

End of the day, I think this is a good loss.  If I'm coaching, I remind the boys that first half championships occur 300 miles southeast.  You have to work and play hard.  It isn't devastating to any of our season goals.  Its a good reminder.  It looked like Omaha was chirping a lot too...tomorrow we will learn a lot about this year's edition.

23 shot attempts in a game doesn’t scream to me wanted it more.  Not 23 shots on goal, 23 shot attempts.

UND fans earn their reputation just as much after a loss as a win. Back away from the ledge.

Defensively and discipline wise, Omaha was stout. UND, well, leaky.

I agree.  Last weekend kind of trickled into this weekend and we were chasing the game against a good hardworking team.

Glad we are talking about only the second loss of the year on January 10th.

Once again a Berry team looks like crap after the Christmas Break - remember the pact?

Instead of a weekend at Canisius! Agreed.

Another lackluster performance just like last weekend except this team it results in the loss. Definitely disappointing first off just because of the lack of energy and execution the guys played with, second because you would've hoped they would've learned from last weekend, and third because Omaha isn't a very good team. Guys really seemed to lack some urgency with the puck tonight. Have to make more of the tough plays didn't seem like we won a whole lot of board battles all night. Scheel wasn't sharp tonight. Lot of clean faceoff losses which is very uncharacteristic. Despite the poor play I thought the guys still generated some solid opportunities but just not as many as usual and when that happens you have to convert on what you get and that didn't happen tonight. Michaud hit a post, Peski hit a post, Adams had a great chance he put into the stomach, etc. I'd expect a nice sharp response from the guys tomorrow night.

Say what you want about Omaha, but they have played everyone fairly even. Good coaching, young squad, on the rise. I saw the game as pretty even, pretty exciting, just one of those outcomes. Will the Sioux recover, of course. Will the Mavericks go to the NCAA’s, probably not. But today they aren’t a very good team is uninformed.

Everyone settle down. This team has only 2 losses. Yes they didn’t play well tonight but again they have 2 losses. Only 1 other team has less than that. We’re still OK

Once again, a healthy dose of humble pie.  IF our coaching cadre can muster the troops.

What did I say that wasn't true?  At least the second year in a row that we have come out of Christmas sluggish and struggling.  Last year it cost us a playoff berth.
