So you think UND was ranked 24th when you look at #16-24? They try to avoid rematches plus it's the NCAA - nuf said.

Could UND have been the last team in? Sure. In that scenario, UND is still far from the #24 seed thanks to the auto bids.

Which other first round team was within 400mi of GF? I'll hang up and wait.

It's almost like most of you don't bother to read the bracketing guidelines the committee has to work with.

Oh wait, it's because most of you don't bother to read the bracketing guidelines the committee has to work with. <shakes head>

The fact that the winner of our game plays the #1 seed NDSU identifies either us or Nicholls as the #24 seed.  They were ranked ahead of us and won their conference; therefore we are the #24 seed and last one in.

None of this is true

Look, UND is last team in; Nicholls won their conference; UND does not draw substantially better then most teams.  If UND got the bid I would guess attendance would be about 8000 at the Alerus on a Thanksgiving weekend.  How much can you bid with attendance of 8000?  As the lower seed in the tournament you would have to outbid the other team by a lot to host.  If Nicholls was in the ballpark they would host as the higher seed.  The biding process is part of the hosting process but not the entire part of the process.  We should be happy we are in.

Nicholls drew 8,500 fans for their first round game last year. I don't see any reason to expect that UND should be able to outbid them for an FCS playoff game. It's about attendance and there will likely be more butts in in seats in Thibodaux than there would have been in Grand Forks. At this point, they have the more established FCS program.

do they serve alcohol at their stadium...still finding it hard to believe that chaves put in an agressive bid and still lost to nicholls?

No it's not that.  We were going to be with SDSU or NDSU regardless.  Nicholls is the outlier team that was going to travel somewhere.

Let's look at this from Nicholls perspective if they would have had to come to UND to play us...

They were ranked higher than us, they went on the road and beat a good team and rival to win their conference, they had a better record than us, they put in a competitive bid to ours, and they would have to go back to North Dakota and play again the following week if they beat us.  Put yourself in their shoes if we were hosting them.  Make sense a bit now?  Can you still defend us hosting?

Is anywhere in the lower 48 considered "regional"?

Feelings don't matter. The bid amount does. They bid more. That's the only reason they're hosting the game.

They refer to us as South Dakota

That was an old article.  Nicholls hosted USD in 2017 which is what they were referring to.

The committee pairs up all first round teams that are within 400 miles. There are going to be leftovers after that that need to be paired up however it works. When you're up where we are, you're normally one of the leftovers. If SDSU had been unseeded, the rules would have required them and UND to be paired up. But with SDSU a seed, there are no first round teams within 400mi of GF. So you go where they need you to. Not to mention that there weren't many unseeded western teams.

Anyone know if the REA threw some money into the bid?

Just wondering why REA would have anything to do with spending money on hosting a game at the Alerus. They bank their money for bi-annual locker room updates.

Got it, I clearly didn’t read it very closely

The REA did not throw any money in and would never do so.

Bracket is set. Bids are open. Highest bid hosts. Nothing more, nothing less. Nicholls managed to outbid us. Nothing can be done at this point. All luck of the draw on who you get matched up against.

UND bid well above the minimum. The staff was confident there were only a one or two teams that would exceed UND's bid. Turned out to be wrong, but again, it's done. Nicholls will be taking a bath to hopefully what amounts to buying a home loss.

The bid process requires a minimum bid, but obviously teams bid more than that. Also, the submitted bid is only the minimum the bidder has to pay. Once game is done and attendance/total take is known, the actual amount paid to NCAA may very well end up more (maybe much more) than the actual bid.  In short, a $90K bid could turn out to be a $130K payment to the NCAA. So, if you estimate solidly that game revenue will be $160K, you may as well bid the $130K.

Correct

I don’t think we are always screwed and the system is rigged against us. We are in and l am happy. There are some teams that didn’t get in that are feeling terrible right now. I am not feeling terrible!
