Don’t have access to the story, but is this being considered without fans?  Unless we were a month removed from new Coronavirus cases, I would think it wouldn’t be prudent for people to come here when we haven’t been hit that much so far.  Would think Schlossman would be making an argument that the NHL doesn’t care about anything but the bottom line and keeping their season alive.  If people are still questioning football in the fall, would think this wouldn’t seem realistic.

It would be without fans.

Regardless if this actually happens, UND and the Ralph are getting a ton of free publicity.

Google searches for The Ralph and UND Hockey skyrocketed.

Here's searches in Canada for Ralph Engstad Arena :

From what I learned in a meeting this morning, the Article about the NHL being played at the Ralph was the the first time the Ralph had heard anything about it.

Is that graph in hundreds or thousands or what?

And how did you make that graph? That's interesting...

The graph represents interest in the search term for that period. A 100 is the maximum amount of interest during that time while zero means no searches. Because there are a lot of uneven points during the search, you can assume there is a higher statistical range than normal.

Most graphs will never hit zero as there is at least some traffic. In this case, there is generally no interest in REA but since the article was published, it jumped.

The graph is created by Google Trends. I just grabbed a screenshot.

Ah that makes sense.  Thanks!

More on a possible Stanley Cup from an Edmonton newspaper.

One writer thinks there's a 99% probability that the Stanley Cup starts at a non NHL site.  The players association would owe over a half billion if TV money is not made.

Saskatoon is also a prime spot but GF still mentioned.  The playoffs this summer and a later start next fall.  The NHL has met with Trump

If they did pick Grand Forks they have other rinks close by; Thief River, Bemidji, Fargo.

Only having to deal with one state seems mandatory with CoVid-19=restrictions.

It sure would be nice for the Grand Forks economy if this ever happened. I would envision a designated hotel per team with a designated restaurant catering meals. Would be great for those businesses.

The NHL should reserve several hotels for them.  One corona case could cease the entire tournament.  All maids, food prep, and other workers would need to be checked for extra pay

This is not an attack on SV, but it's this zero tolerance mentality that's dragging everything - and everyone - down.  It's simply not realistic.  People have got to get comfortable with the notion of being around COVID-19 infected individuals.  That's life.  It's always been that way.  Viruses and cockroaches will outlive us all.

The NHL wants big empty arenas for TV and small ones for practice.  Maybe the Sanford Center in SF, but it's a major COVID center now

If ICON was good enough for IIHF to play actual competition, then it should do for the NHL and practice.  :)

A sports event that results in one case would be dead almost the same day as it is not necessary except for people s enjoyment.

Enjoyment of life is about as essential as it gets, no?  Life is too short already.  Putting things on hold until some arbitrary, imaginary level of 'security' is reached is madness.
