Suppose the holiday weekend will suspend the coaching search?

Does anyone have any news they can share if interviews on campus will start next week?

Like the above comments... that state Chaves reached out to Glas and Gunther. Not sure how in the loop they are with the candidates....other then Herbst. Is that a sign that Chaves is Background checking on Herbst and others?

Again, Chaves wasn’t talking to them about individual candidates (although I am sure he talked to Glas about Randall). He talked to them because they both had accomplished careers at UND and were well respected on and off the court. Getting their thoughts on various topics certainly can’t hurt and will likely give Chaves a better feel as to the attributes a coach should have to be successful at UND.

seems weird that they would name finalists rather than just naming who they hire

Agree with this. Why would I have thought there would be finalists named for this position? I know there is for the President, but I'm trying to think back to other coaching hires at UND.

Considering there isn't a set definition for "finalists", it's up in the air whether UND will release anything. There were a lot of phone interviews last week, with pretty much everyone who made it through the HR screening (call it the "first round"). In-person interviews with those that made it through the phone interviews this week (call it the "second round"). Not sure on location or number of interviews being completed. They could go a step further and do a couple more interviews with "finalists" or they could just do a "final interview" and announce that person as the new coach as they release they were the only finalist and no other names get released.

State law seems pretty clear that if 3 or more applicants meet the minimum qualifications for the position, the institution needs to name 3 finalists.

i think you only have to release the people who pass the requirements of the position, so you'd avoid all of that assuming you tailored the listing properly

Or not.  Applying for a new gig, having your name released, and not making the cut makes for a bad time with your current employer.
