Ha.  Yesterday I said all they do is win, but they don't dominate anyone.  Scratch that.

The last few years have shown how well the NCHC prepares a team for the tournament.  Every weekend down the stretch seems so tough ... I guess because they are.  UMass was for Duluth what Q was for UND, just not ready for the pace and tight checking.

Once again, to be objective one should really look at Sandelins record since the Amsoil opened up.  Since then he has been lights out.  The old DECC was a horribly outdated facility.  Sandelin proves that a good coach should be able to win with nice facilities.

He did miss the tourney in 2013 and 2014 which is post Amsoil.  All I am saying is he has had his bumps in the road.  A few years back people were wanting to run him out if Duluth and how quickly things can change.

Duluth neutralized Makar, but not without the help of the refs. The headshot one of the Cates took at him should have been a five/gate, and his penalty shortly after shouldn't have been a penalty. Felt it was an embellishment on the Duluth player, but maybe that's just their reputation preceding them. Either way he got jobbed. Wouldn't have changed the outcome of the game, but if they suspended the UMass player for the championship, Cates should be suspended for the first game of next season.

When college hockey has a stud from Canada who by all accounts is a major coup from the major juniors route playing on national television in both countries, seeing a cheap shot go unpunished and then defending himself from another a few moments later go against him is a failure on the part of the refs. That's not going to help recruit that caliber of player to go the college route.

Makar's dad was wearing a fleece with the College Hockey Inc. logo on it; both father and son will undoubtedly be quoted extensively in CHI's Canadian info sessions for the foreseeable future. Hopefully this didn't leave a bad taste in their mouth. The aforementioned suspension should be given as an olive branch to these very important Canadian ambassadors.

Duluth doesn't embellish.....unless you are talking about the swan dive hold your head twenty seconds later they're fine stuff....then yes, they do.

It's not like their players have been put into an NCAA teaching video for officials concerning embellishment though okay???

I was pleased to hear Buccigross mention a few (several) times how tough the NCHC is, and that its the best conference in college hockey right now.   That can only help recruiting, across the board for all 8 schools.

Backed up by some numbers

UMD 16-9-1 vs NCHC opponents, a .635 winning percentage.  13-2-1 vs everyone else, an .844 wpct.

Final conference numbers for NCHC 56-23-8 .690

Some smart moves 7-8 years ago paying dividends.

I wonder if Cale Makar was thinking the NCHC would have prepared him better?

I think Tim's tweet covers this subject well.

UMD lost 2 non conference games all year....UND lost two to Canisius .....the gap is larger than people want to believe.

You missed the point of Tim’s tweet. He was talking about the strength of the NCHC.

At roughly 1 hour 18 min. Follows through on the head contact.

You're entitled to your own opinion but personally I don't think that's a five. 2 min roughing in my book. If that's a five then almost every skirmish in an nchc rivalry game would be a 5.

Hate to be Nancy Negative here but, tonight makes basically every major rival of UND that has won back-to-back Natty's now.  What has UND done back-to-back?  Miss the (*$%&@($%*& tournament!

So UND needs to win back-to-back-to-back National Titles.

Not sure if that's the greatest company to be in.  Before 2002 and 2003, Minnesota hadn't won since 1979 (23 years), and hasn't won since (16+ years - longer than UND's drought).  Before 2004 and 2005, Denver hadn't won since 1969 (35 years!).  I don't want that many years of irrelevance just to go back-to-back.
