Not early departures by the intent of the original post exactly, but...

That's alot of recruiting mistakes - or perhaps coach ego.   Or maybe he's doing the Mike Eaves roster construction method (half the roster is seniors once every four years, and that's the year you go for Hardware).

Cooper Zech bolts from Ferris to sign with Boston (AHL deal).  He played with Weatherby last year in WEN.  He had 28 in 36 games from the point.....why does Weatherby only have 5 in 34 as a forward.  No, this is not me bashing an underclassmen....more me wondering why our team can't put up points.

BREAKING NEWS EXCLUSIVE FROM SPARTAN NATION: MSU Hockey UFA F Taro Hirose moments ago signed his NHL contract with the Detroit Reds Wings. He will be going straight 2 the Red Wings & not playing in the minor leagues, leaving MSU early. He is a Hobey Baker award finalist as well.

I thought Robson was a grad transfer from somewhere out east. My mistake.

EDIT: Robson's situation is a bit sketchy. He's a transfer, and a guy who lost time due to an MJ mistake.

Robson joined the Gophers only last season and wasn’t eligible to play until halfway through it because an NCAA sanction required him to sit out a year and a half when he decided to first join Clarkson after signing with an Ontario Hockey League team.

Does the MSU guy lose his ability to win the Hobey by signing?

Why would he? Because he's no longer a "college player"? By that standard any senior not playing in the national championship game would be ineligible because their season is over and they are no longer a "college player".

I see, my thinking he is now a professional athlete, not just another former player....  My apologies for offending your sensibilities, is it spring yet

Yes, Robson was only able to play 1 and a half seasons because he played in the OHL and transferred.

This is from the official Gopher Sports story on his signing: “Gopher Hockey junior goaltender Mat Robson has signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Minnesota Wild, the organization announced on Monday, as Robson foregoes his final year of eligibility with the University of Minnesota.” https://gophersports.com/news/2019/3/18/mens-ice-hockey-robson-inks-deal-with-minnesota-wild.aspx

The Star Trib also is looking at this as if it’s an early departure. http://www.startribune.com/mat-robson-leaves-gophers-for-wild/507311952/

I swear I thought he was a senior this entire year.

I went to his bio on the Gopher website and it says he gave up his final year of eligibility, so that’s proof enough for me
