2018 NCAA Tournament - Worst to First

Gotta root for  ND, perhaps it will raise hockey awareness and interest, also can't root for Duluth whose game plan includes diving and intentionally injuring other players and the reality is Notre Dame isn't true Big Ten.

IMO this was best-case scenario today with the 4 given teams.

You had UMD win to kill any chance for a B10 final.  And then ND killed any chance for Michigan getting to 10 titles.
Now for the championship, each team winning has it's advantages and disadvantages:

UMD - ADV: keep it in the NCHC (3 years in a row!) / DIS: have to deal with the UMD DHG's of the world rejoicing over their diving championship
ND - ADV: always cool to see a program get their 1st / DIS: B10 gets a year to brag

I agree.  Best outcomes yesterday.   I'll go with the Dogs tomorrow.  It's OK their fans chirp--they're NCHC and way back in the banner total.

And it's been a good hockey school for a long time.

Going to,be an interesting final....someone asked 'what would it take to get Sandelin back to UND?'.....start with 500K/year....other than being an alum, why would he want to? Area talent pool much  better/deeper in Duluth than GF...For most MN kids, UND is 4th/5th fav team...(Poolmsn's exceptions as their dad works within the UND program)

GO DAWGS....(drive the haters crazy)

This poster's quotes are best read in Cletus' voice:

Worst.  Tournament.  Ever.

Who to root for? This reminds me of another question........if you were in a river of sh** up to your neck, and somebody threw a bucket of puke at your face.....would you duck?

Oh, but I am.....Gophers, UMD, St. Cloud, Mankato all in the mix for MNotans....just like most GFC, RR kids would prefer playing for UND if offered.....

My whole family is from Minnesota and it really depends on where you live. The northern part of the state prefers Duluth or UND (and a few BSU). The western part goes to SCSU, Minnesota State or UND. The eastern part is UMD or even (shudders) UW. Really UMN is most popular in the suburbs. It's almost like geography matters.

The schools with the big endowments will win more times than not. They have the money to treat the athletes like royalty.

Absolutely, the BIG has recently decided they want to win at hockey, it’s not a flash in the pan situation.

With annual budgets of over $100,000,000, annual receipts of $28,000,000 million/year per team just from the B10 Network, and paying the women’s volleyball coach $48,000 above Berry’s salary, it’s going to be a challenge for us now that hockey is a focus.

Now more than ever we need to recruit like mad, run the toughest program, get every ounce out of our players and keep adding to NHL rosters.

Everyone who comes here wants the NHL and wants a program that demands and provides excellence from the table, to the weight program, to the coaching.

http://www.uscho.com/2018/04/06/as-notre-dame-minnesota-duluth-meet-for-frozen-four-title-little-separates-the-sides/

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Team of Destiny versus the Cardiac Kids.

It seems like an apt description for the Frozen Four’s two finalists, Minnesota Duluth and Notre Dame. But it’s not too far-fetched to have to ask which term describes which team.

Sure, the Fighting Irish have given their coach near-heart attacks in the postseason, winning five straight games in either the final minute of regulation or overtime.

And the Bulldogs, the final at-large team to qualify for the NCAA tournament, making the field by one ten-thousandth of a point, have fought through three straight one-goal games themselves to reach a second straight national title game, this one less that two hours from campus.

There will be some Sioux behind the bench for the Doggs tonight. Could be a tight knit group!

Brett Larson, assistant coach, played at UMD

Jason Herter, assistant coach, manned the University of North Dakota blueline for three seasons (1988-91), racking up 119 points on 30 goals and 89 assists in 118 games.  Also an assistant under Blaise.

Brant Nicklin, Duluth volunteer assistant coach. Played at UMD

Christian Koelling, director of hockey operations, a graduate of UMD

Chris Garner equipment manger, also for the University of North Dakota women’s program during its inaugural season (2002-03).

Do we have an upcoming story from Schloss on this?

#16:  UMD  -- Remember 2011?  DrunkHockeyGuy needs a second natty about as much as he needs another beer.  No, thanks.

#15:  Ohio State -- "Hey, our Buckeyes won the national title.  Whoop-dee-doo.  When is football's first spring practice?"

#14:  Princeton -- All hell would break loose if this happened.  Think Alpha Betas getting beat by the Trim Lambs bad.

#13:  Notre Dame -- you think @JohnboyND7 is bad NOW?  Just imagine if the Fighting Irish win the NCAA title.

#12:  Clarkson -- nothing says "meh" like the idea of Clarkson winning the NCAA title.

#11:  Denver -- Monty going back-to-back just like "The Gwoz" did?  Nah.

#10:  Boston University -- After last season's review debacle?  Nope.

#9:  Penn State -- Too soon.  Great fans, though.

#8:  St. Cloud State -- It wouldn't be the end of the world because Motzko would certainly stay with the Huskies.

#7:  Michigan -- Mel Pearson's a likeable guy.

#6:  Cornell -- It's about time the Big Red harkened back to the golden days of yore.

#5:  Minnesota State-Mankato -- This would also keep Mike Hastings away from Goldy...and Minnesota fans would pee their pants over this one.

#4:  Northeastern -- Boston College and Boston U would each throw up a little bit in their respective mouths if this were to happen.

#3:  Air Force Academy -- Man, this would be all sorts of awesome.  2018, win an NCAA title.  2020, join the NCHC.

#2:  Michigan Tech --Party like it's the mid 1970's, Techies.  This would be so sweet for 'da UP.

#1:  Providence College --  Well, I have family ties there, so this should be obviosu.  Besides, I want to hear Bucci yell out "LITTLE RHODY!  BIG MAN ON CAMPUS!" one more time.

THANK YOU! BEER WAS FANTASTIC!!
