SDSU had a rematch with Carleton today (Sunday).  Carleton 83, SDSU 64.   Carleton would be a top 10 NCAA team.

One might say just about everything went wrong in SDSU's first meeting the Carleton Ravens Men.  There's little question Carlton is a great basketball team.  The Jacks finished 2-2 in the trip to Canada.  Here are some of the stats from each of the four games.

GAME 1:  On 8/9/18, SDSU 76, McGill 69.  Skyler Flatten led the Jacks with 22 and Brandon Key had 20. Mike Daum had eight points. Jacks shot 40.9% from the field.

GAME 2:  8/10/18, Carleton University Ravens 113, SDSU 51.  The Jacks got stomped the whole way.  David Jenkins was the top scorer for SDSU with 15. The Jacks shot 38.2% for the game. Mike Daum had eight points. Carleton shot 59.5% including 15 three-pointers.  Carleton finished third in the Canadian National Tournament last season and the nucleus from that team returned this year.

GAME 3:  8/11/18, SDSU 93, U of Ottawa 77.  SDSU shot 52.4% including a dozen three-pointers. Jacks led by David Jenkins jr. with 30 and Mike Daum had 22.

GAME 4:  8/12/18:  Jackrabbits returned to Carleton for a rematch.  Carleton 83, SDSU 64. Jacks shot 32.3% from the field but in this game Carleton's shooting cooled off compared to the first game.  In the first half, the Jacks led most of the way, holding Carleton to just 26.3% from the field which included making just 1 of 10 three point shot attempts.  Carleton got on track in the second half, finishing the game 44.3% from the field (compare to the first game: 59.5% with 15 three-pointers).   Several SDSU freshman played well.  Mike Daum led the Jacks in scoring with 18.  David Jenkins Jr and Skyler Flatten each had 17.

Carleton is a legit basketball power. As noted by SiouxVolley in an earlier post:  Carleton beat Cincinnatti and Ole' Miss earlier in the week.  Those scores were:  Carleton 86, Cincinnati 67 (August 6) and Carleton 81, Ole' Miss 63 (August 8).

Bump.  SDSU just gave up 90 to a bad SWAC team at home and barely won.

Suspect defense, maybe we can catch them off guard and sneak one out of Brookings.

Sorry to break it to you, but UND and NDSU have ZERO chance of beating SDSU this year. One of the two will probably not even make the Summit Tourny, just not sure which one.

Maybe we could make them co-head coaches at one school. One can recruit talent but has no clue how to coach and one who can coach some but has no eye for talent.

And they can take the bullet train to Brookings.

Maybe you do, but after going to the NDSU game last night, I will stick to ZERO for Richman's crew,

They need to stop the fight down in Brookings.

They scored 90.... by halftime.

I think they could pull 5 students from the crowd to play the 2nd half and win by 30...

They will run the table in the Summit.

Their game against Nevada and the Son of Musselman will be a fun one.

Not that it mattered at all but the announcer said they only had 9 scholarship players and that a couple of their main rotation guys were still playing at the end or close to it. Thought that was a little strange.

Most DII and DIii teams have bigger budgets than Savannah St.  They are degrading to DII because they couldn’t afford DI to begin with.

SDSU just had the money to buy a game and pay for their travel.   It’s rather sad and sorry actually.

Mayville St is dirt cheap.

SDSU has Alabama St, Southern U, and Savannah St as DI buy wins, as they want an at-large bid if the Summit Tournament does turn out for them.  They did have Bemidji as their only sub DI game.

That is much more expensive than UND and NDSU.  MEAC and SWAC games are expensive because there are in demand for an "easy" DI win.

Savannah State is playing Wisconsin on Thursday and also has Iowa on its schedule.  I’m sure the SSU players don’t look st it as a sad situation.  They will look at it as an opportunity...

You don't get at large bids by crushing low level D1 schools.

Beating Nevada will get them one.

What's sad about it? We need D1 home games. When you are a strong Men's mid-major getting teams to show up at your place is incredibly difficult. No one wants to play us at Frost. We get the BSC and WAC schools to come but no one else will. I suggest you head over to the Wisconsin board and rip them for playing SSU this week. After which head o over to the Iowa board for doing the same. Oh, and after the fact go rip Texas A&M and Georgia who both played SSU this year.

You really need to begin understanding how D1 basketball works.

So Wisconsin and Iowa St can’t get at large bids?  What planet do you live on? Almost every power team plays at least one MEAC or SWAC school.

MEAC and SWAC teams are considered upper level teams compared to DII, DIII and NAIA schools by the selection committee.

SDSU really needed a Memphis win.  Their at large bid probabilities are about over.

SDSU shouldn't have to worry about an at large bid.  I don't see anyone knocking off a healthy Rabbit squad in Sioux Falls come March.
