Grand Forks Public Schools overspent by $2 million this year.

and will be another million short next year if something doesn't change (time to increase property taxes)!

Heard a quote today, "Grand Forks is like a shack with a dirt floor who talks about getting a hot tub."

Wreck your car on the roads in Grand Forks getting to an underfunded school system, while the city leaders are busy extending curbs downtown, trying to build a new library, a million dollar light project, and kissing more of the governors butt with downtown vibrancy initiatives:

Fiscal mismanagement with our leaders in GF. UND now the school board should we be surprised. More of the same. Build a Drone Park!

That's so 2015.

You need to be thinking about 2020.

Beware of Greeks bearing gifts. There's some of that, no a lot of that in the Grand Sky thread. Drain the swamp you can start with the city and then head to Bismarck. You Cratter can be a hero. Open Records Requests.

I’m curious about this project as well.  I can only imagine how worked up the “Save Arbor Park” people will get if that project falls through.

you would think that jlg would hae enough money to buy out the norby's building people to develop the three lots from arbor park to demers ave instead of new build (arbor park), old ugly norby's building, and then another new building on the corner across from sky's?

Here comes the city to bail out the Herald building?

They seem to be taking it upon themselves to do whatever they can to move something into the building.

Quote

"It would be part library, it would be a hangout spot during the day, it would be many things that we want it to be," Feland said. The city has also engaged in conversations with UND, he said, as they university has expressed an interest in participating as long as the space aligns with campus resources and student needs.

If you have to use the phrase "hangout spot during the day," you probably should save the money for something more useful.

Normally there's a need for something and then you build it to accommodate those needs. In Grand Forks build (or rent) it and they'll (the need) come.

A six story building is being proposed where Lyons Garage currently sits (across from city hall)

https://www.grandforksherald.com/news/government-and-politics/4541817-grand-forks-city-council-gets-update-growth-downtown

Always thought the block north of the Lyons garage would be an ideal spot for a high rise as well as the old water plant.  Both buildings would have close up views and access  to the Greenway.

If the bones of the Herald building are good, repurposing it is a great idea. Rather than build a library why not use that existing building. If some street-level retail could be put in, all the better.

Does GF Central need additional space? Does City Hall need space? That building is right there for both.

You’d have thought they’d have been smart enough to know you need specialized tinted windows.  when you build an east west facing building with nothing to block the sun (terminal) too.

Counting all the current and potential projects downtown over the next couple years: Arbor Park, Lyons Garage redevelopment, Hugo's/Alerus development, apartments next to the Townhouse, corner of Demers and 4th? Missing any?

And brand new DeMers street/sidewalk form the Red to 6th St., going to be a war zone.

Before The Flood the not so kept up 3 story buildings here wouldn't bring you $50G.
