#Roccowatch2014

Recommended Posts

Don't worry, given his past history, he will be banned soon and then re-emerge again under another name shortly after his ban. We should keep a tally of all his different names.

In no particular order..... almostheavenin2011, smokeythecat, chicagolandsioux, watchmaker49, charliepic, werewolfoflondon

I know im just being a selfish Sioux fan but i would've expected a little more loyalty from a guy like Rocco. Slightly irritated but good luck to him even though i think he's going to be stuck in the AHL, hopefully he proves me wrong.

I agree. I never got the impression he really wanted to be here though. Something tells me if he wouldn't have gotten hurt his freshman year he would have left after last season.

Ah yes. I've heard of Lomackman, though I believe he was before I joined the site. Will have to add that one to the list.

I would call this a rules violation. I would argue that people that can not accept a different opinion and gang up on someone like little girls have a problem. The need to be accepted by other strangers on a board makes some people go hmmmmm. Normal actions of people who can not make their argument for their case so they lash out instead. Most mods hold everyone to the same standards. Not on this board though. They tend to side with their friends, who they allow to violate the rules with immunity. Then ban or suspend the person who fires back after being insulted with personal attacks. That is the typical rightwing conservative response.

Am I the only one that could absolutely see Rocco playing in the NHL soon? I look at a guy like Erik Haula on the Wild. Rocco has the same speed and more skill, IMO.

You have to be fast to play in the NHL and I think Rocco's raw speed gets him there. Just my opinion, I guess.

I agree with a lot of this, but please leave the partisan political crap out of it. All it does is start a political flame war, which usually ends with the thread being locked. I often am the black sheep on this forum when it comes to certain topics, but I am not afraid to speak my mind and I make an effort to back up my point of view. Just keep the personal cheap shots out of it (and don't respond to anyone else's cheap shots) and I think you'll be fine.

Yes, I think you are the only one that thinks that. But that doesn't mean you are wrong. I hope you are right; he deserves success as much as anyone.

There's a reason the people in hockey are paid for what they do and fans aren't. I think there's a possibility, especially with the Panthers.

Am I not the most hated poster in this board anymore?

I think you've been losing your focus lately. I would like to see more gibberish in your postings. You know, the kind that someone needs to interpret for the rest of us.

I think Rocco will be successful in the NHL because there will be more space for him because of the other talent on the ice. Finishing will be his biggest issue. I think one thing that hurt him was that he never really had a power forward to clear space, create lanes, and finish plays. In the NHL that won't be an issue. Very happy he came to UND.

Haula is a much more complete player and can easily move between lines 2,3,&4 and I don't think that Rocco can do that. Haula has made an even quicker jump to being a consistent NHL player than I ever thought he would but I think a lot of that is because of his hockey IQ and ability to play well in the defensive zone. Haula and Rocco probably aren't a real great comparison when looking at players either unless you are just looking at speed. Rocco may have more skill but that skill hasn't translated into as much production as it probably should have and IMO the big thing he has to do if he wants to get a shot to play in the NHL is convert on more of the chances he creates.

Yea, the Panthers' brass is paid to find NHL caliber talent...then again, judging by that team's sorry performance since about 1996, maybe they're just working for free lunches.

But would you have said that he was the more complete player coming out of college? I wouldn't. I never saw a lot out of Haula that screamed NHL to me, other than his speed. I think Rocco was a better finisher at the college level. Haula carried a bit of a better defensive standpoint, but not drastically different than Rocco's.

Other than size, I think that Rocco has every tool to be extremely successful in the NHL and even size is a wee bit (see what I did there?) overrated. But I guess you can't teach size, can you?

Obviously talent evaluation isn't an exact science, otherwise more people would have either drafted Matt Read, or offered him in Free agency. I didn't see him being an every day player in the NHL, but he sure has made the most of his opportunity.

He will have far less time in the NHL. Most of the time as soon as you get the puck someone is in your face. The defense is much tougher.

I think Rocco has the speed and he has the creativity. What he does not have yet is the discipline to not do something he knows he shouldn't do. He attempts passes that are high risk/low reward and create opportunities for the opponent. This is what got him benched with the World Juniors team. While he has improved, he still would occasionally do something that would make you say "Oh no!" The risks associated with those mistakes is much higher in the NHL. I don't believe that he has a chance of staying in the NHL until he learns that boundary of his creativity.
