Grand Sky

You perhaps don't realize that being on the GFAFB, especially research and development and some operations and training, is often for classified people, per Pentagons order.  Foreign firms often cant get an OK for their people or company, as they don't want Israeli or Russian or any foreign national on base.  When I worked on a military installation that had strict security, anyone even interviewing needed to be accompanied everywhere as their was confidential material all over.  As per normal, just making mountains out of molehills.

Should have Grand Sky  been at the airport? Why place it at the Base if your limited with your potential? Is Grand Sky fenced off from the Base itself.  I hear on the radio this industry has Hugh potential and Fargo is going to sit back and say GF this ones yours. And the people who control the state are from where?

UAV software companies are already in Fargo, so Fargo is already sharing in developing UAV technology.  Elbot wants to be near private companies for their input.  Any bit of business that would have gone to California anyway is a win for ND.  The first UAV center for the military was in CA.  Grand Sky's main purpose is for defense, that why the Pentagon allowed it.  Other UAV companies have offices in Minot.  Guess you want the jobs in Fargo and Minot shuttered?

NDSU wants a piece of the UAV action

Fargo Puts on a large Drone Focus Conference

Quote

"Our goal is that Drone Focus will become the next Big Iron for Fargo."

And now the new Drone company moving just outside Fargo in Casselton.

Fargo is going to do anything it takes to get a piece of the drone industry pie.

Is Grand Sky limited in its potential?  Is the state looking out for GF? The state owes GF ten million dollars. We the tax payers property owners pay for the maintenance on state roads. Ya they care about GF.

You say Grand Sky's main purpose is for defense.  OK   A local man in the aerospace business called into local radio one day as I was listening. He said he got a phone call one day from one of our Washington representatives. Telling this local guy what plans they have for Grand Sky.  Do I questions the state when it comes to the GF area. I do question there motives.. As David Flynn from UND  has said I have  not yet seen the proof that Grand Sky will be a big thing.

I grow up on the Airforce base and recently visited the base over Christmas break thinking of transfering to UND.I was so depressed to see how small it has become. I am interested, I haven't heard much about the UAV. If chosen how many personel would be added. I just saw the news for it and It seems like a very small project right now. http://www.wdaz.com/...ticle/id/17643/

225 acers is not much. So I can't expect it to bring the base back to life even if it works out we get it.

225 acres is not much. Was Grand Sky  put on the base as a way to limit it's potential. These guys do not like GF or UND in my opinion. This is just like money to fight the Red River in Fargo. Fargo said they waited  every other city got there water projects done. It was good to wait they got at least 5 times what the other cities got.

Economic development in ND is rigged. College growth is rigged. When the Fargo Air Guard went to a Drone Mission they had it all planned out Fargo SU leaders in that technology.

Quote 225 acres is not much. So I can't expect it to bring the base back to life even if it works out we get it. As I said Grand Sky an idea to control and limit it's potential.

Grand Forks should invest city dollars and build its own Drone Park. Aerospace is here. What better place to have one. A Drone Park in GF should have happened years ago. Maybe the state put one at the base to stop GF from breaking ground on there own. The longer you wait the more you lose.

if cities can invest money to build Business Parks they can do the same for Drone Park.Get going on it.

You just described the problem with Grand Forks.  They are their own worst enemy, not the state, not Fargo, not Casselton.  The leadership in Grand Forks.

They wont invest in anything or seem to allow any growth to happen.  Housing is not affordable.  It’s growth seems to be limited by a few.   The infrastructure needs work.  Downtown could be great but let’s not change it.

So you are left with what’s there, a bunch of things that are ok but nothing is great.  Potential is there for a great campus, great facility for conferences, great downtown, great concert venues.

They just need to get new leadership in place that is aggressive and isn’t in it for themselves.  The state isn’t the enemy you keep trying to make them out to be.

Grand Forks is asleep at the switch with the states tricks. Put a Drone Park  on the base and GF won’t build one. We have one of the top Aerospace schools in the country and we don’t want our own Park? Grand Sky belongs to the State they proposed it had seed money for it fine go for it.

The city of GF just put 6 Million into the Business Park we have. Grand Forks should build this with city dollars. Don’t trust outsiders to build it it may be a scam to keep GF from having one.

So when the state tries to give grand forks something, it's really just part of a plot to keep grand forks from doing it better. Got it.

It was given to Grand Forks County. Grand Forks desperately needs to increase it’s tax base.

What Grand Forks badly needs is a home grown corporation.  A listed successful corporation brings much wealth, which creates opportunities throughout the community.  Fargo had one in Great Plains software, and its just grown from there after being swallowed up by Microsoft, releasing a billion in capital and attracting more programming talent.  Brookings has one via Daktronics.  Thief River Falls, Warroad, Roseau and Greenbush all have theirs too, otherwise those communities would look more like Halstad or Crookston, whichnstill rely on agriculture and government.  Branch operations are nice and provide jobs, but don’t bring in nearly the wealth and corporate affluence.

We all remember EERCs Gerald Groenwold and his attempts to bring Industry to GF or maybe you didn't know. He failed in every attempt I know of to bring industry here. People I know who work there told.me.Who stopped his attempts. We all know Bisnarck wanted him to move his operation there. He told them no. And his days were numbered. Kelly had the police escort him off campus.

He then sued Kelly and SBHE for 2.9 Million. So there is history to make me or any other fair minded to see the state bias against GF.So for me to look at Grand Sky and think they didn't want GF to have a drone park has merit and history.I don't trust them.

Is GF squandering a dream opportunity by not having it’s own Drone Park?  YES

Majors offered at UND Bachelor of Science in Aeronauticals. Majoring in Unmanned Aircraft System Operations Tax Base

Asking people who have given to UND and GF to take a good hard look at this and help.

Engelstad, Rydell, Altru and anybody else it may benefit you to.

Wake up call. When the Israeli Company Elbit is taking there operations to Casselton. And Grand Sky is limited who can go there because of It being on a Military Base. We are not in the game. No place for Drone Companies to set up shop. There isn’t a city I can think of that it makes more sense to have one. If a Drone Company wanted to come to GF and work with Aerospace what do we tell them go to Fargo?

Since you have extolled the virtues of Groenwold and his black widow wife who was a state representative, that more than explains your paranoia about state government out to get Grand Forks.  They are the only ones possible to actually give a wonderful government and develop businesses, and we should be worshipping their high and mightiness, at least according to them who treated like crap any person that disagreed with them.  Single handedly set back Grand Forks by their nastiness and vindictiveness, and the rest of the state hated and blamed Grand Forks for delivering them to to state offices.  They provided a perfect cover for their own narratives and unfortunately, you and others still recite their virtues and philosophies.

There’s people  ND who have or had power in this state who have said your town GF is a shithole.  In the Groenwolds  your talking about one guy or woman who had very little or no political power and it showed they got canned. Groenwold stuck up for UND and GF when he told them to stick it when they told him to move his operation to Bismarck. A hero on that issue.
