ND handled the whole thing the way you are supposed to. The stupid punishment doled out here just encourages schools to brush this sort of thing under the rug.

Some names on the FBI probe of payments to college players have been revealed.  Maybe North Carolina will finally get probation.  This may effect many top programs, as they all should be probation.

It all depends on what they did.  I wouldn't hold my breathe.  It is the NCAA after all.

So the FBI taped Sean Miller of Arizona pledging $100 k to a recruit.  Have to give Jones more money.

Very much doubt this will be sorted out before the Big Dance starts.

So how would private equity investments work in light of the DI principal of institutional control? Wouldn’t the investors not the university run things? And how is that not professionalism?

The NCAA best tread lightly. Lose that amateur tag and Congress could get interested and that’s always fun.

Some of the schemer cheaters that got their kids into swell Universities said their girls were rowers, paid half a million in bribes or gifts, and got their girls accepted.

But they didn’t need to scheme.  The rowing scholarships have gone from just over 200 in 1980 to over 5500 today because of Title IX needs for football schools.  Many gals don’t even have rowing experience get scholarships if they have the build for it.

There are probably girls on the rowing rosters of some Big 10 schools that are not even aware they are.

Cal Poly was put on two years probation because they handed out book stipends and some of their 265 athletes didn’t use it totally for books.  The athletes ended up with an average of $176.57 cash, which isn’t allowable using a book stipend.

http://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/26554592/ncaa-comes-cal-poly-books-violation

So guess UCLA and USC did something real bad, but Cal Poly took the punishment.

The old North Carolina joke...NCAA is so mad at Duke and UNC that UNC-Charlotte gets two more years of probation.

California to let college athletes make money, defying NCAA

Quote

California's governor signed a first-in-the-nation law Monday that will let college athletes hire agents and make money from endorsements. The law, which the NCAA vigorously opposed, could upend amateur sports in the U.S. and trigger a legal challenge.

Under the law, which takes effect in 2023, students at public and private universities in the state will be allowed to sign deals with sneaker companies, soft drink makers or other advertisers and profit from their images, names or likenesses, just like the pros.

Play for pay....now the law in California.....MN legislator bringing it up in January for that state....will affect, Gophers, Bulldogs, Beavers, Huskies, Mavericks....Will it hurt teams in states w/o such laws... in recruiting........(sidenote: this will be tested in the courts...but this morning....Lebron tasking NCAA to get onboard with this)

Yeah, this won't affect the 19-20 hockey team. Change threads.

Haven't done to much research into whether this  is a good idea or not but if California, Governor Newsom, and LeBron involved what could go wrong?

For those who thought the NCAA would "fight back" against the states, they just folded.  No matter what the NCAA tries to say, it is pay to play.  Kids will get agents to get paid for signing autographs and their imagery while attending college.  I assume the NCAA will try to set up some guidelines on this, but good luck with that.  Colleges will now likely hire folks to help the athletes navigate this course of action.  You can find this on your preferred news channel, but here is the official info from the NCAA via this link:

The NCAA has now gone down a very bad path in my opinion.  Very bad precedent, but the NCAA will likely look to make dollars from this.

I feel there will be a lot of unintended consequences at this change. Time will tell.

Maybe NCAA Football 2021 is coming next fall :D
