yeah all 35 of you the other 16000 will vote NO

Its 80/20 in favor of a YES vote for this poll. I don;t see it bing that lopsided in the actual vote, but if I would have to predict, I would guess 60/40 in favor of the YES vote to retire the name. I guess we will wait and see how correct my prediction is.

Is this on the Forum's website or??

The grumbling among a few legislators about the $46,000 cost of the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux nickname dispute misses the point. The cost of the unnecessary battle to retain or retire the nickname – monetary and otherwise – is far greater.

A comprehensive total would have to include not only direct legal costs but also indirect costs associated with university personnel time, resources and even travel. It would have to include the hours wasted by the Legislature on the issue. It would have to include the time and energy misused by members of the state Board of Higher Education. It would have to include the costs associated with a ballot measure and the several court sessions devoted to the issue. It would have to include the lingering damage to the school’s image and the state’s reputation.

My heart says to vote no, but my head says to vote yes. As stated before voting yes is in the University's best interest.

My exact thoughts. It will be hard for me to punch that yes vote but I really feel it is the right thing to do.

I hate, hate, hate doing this but I will be voting yes. I will not purposely do anything that will or potentially will hurt our student athletles. But, please, please, God don't let the PC crowd stick us with a stupid name just for the sake of having a name. I have nightmares about being stuck with names like the Prairie Dogs, Mosquitos, Flood Waters, etc. I prefer the University of North Dakota to the UND Hoo Haas,

A lot of us who are voting yes to retire the name and end the sanctions want UND to have a new name..eventually. We need to take steps first, and the first step is to retire the Sioux name, then at a later time we can worry about a replacement. ULM (Louisiana-Monroe) retired their Indians name and went with Warhawks. To me that sounds cool. So just because some schools pick dumb replacements there are some that can pick a nice replacement (of course nothing can fully replace Fighting Sioux).

The rest of us are going to vote No because the sanctions are not that big of a deal & if NCAA tries to up them they could open the lawsuit again - it was a settlement we agreed to their sanctions (No home playoffs or wearing the logo at NCAA events) they don't happen that often - they agreed to take us off the Hostile & Abusive list - that's all the SBOHE & UND Admin. wanted - why it was all rushed & scare tactics to get in the :silly: Summit league- which now we don't want to be in it & they are using the scare of BIG SKY League (that we are in) to scare football Fans - HOCKEY Fans can unite & win this - Plus the Thousands of other Sioux Fans across the State

We were never Hostile or Abusive & the SL came around at their pace SR is mostly in SD & could care less about ND (Boycott their Casino for ever)

& Vote NO it is still the Right thing to do - Don't let the ones who messed this up convince you other wise & they are messing with every emotion & their uppity preppy thinking to change your mind

Don't be mindless scared Sheep Vote NO

The sanctions are a much bigger deal than you realize. They will even start affecting men's hockey in the coming years, and we all know that is the only thing you really care about. Athletes will stay away from UND because the word "sanctions" is associated with the school without even knowing what the sanctions are about. It will affect other sports like women's hockey and football much more. The sanctions may not seem serious to people at this point because they have really not applied to UND so far. They are going to get much worse as time goes on.

And as usual, you are wrong about the NCAA's ability to increase sanctions. The sanctions ARE NOT spelled out in the settlement agreement. The agreement continually states that UND would be subject to the POLICY. The NCAA can change that policy at any time by a vote of the Executive Committee. They can change the sanctions, they can eliminate the policy or they can add to it. UND would not be able to sue over any changes made to the policy because the policy would be in effect for all NCAA member schools that meet the criteria. So the NCAA has the ability to completely eliminate UND from postseason play in all sports, or make the sanctions apply to all North Dakota schools, or anything else they want. This isn't going away and it is going to get worse.

I'm ready to play or go to war if the mods allow it - it has always been way to one sided here

What the heck are you talking about? You, DaveK, yababy8 and everyone else on the Vote No bandwagon have had free reign to express yourselves on here. It's not my (or anyone else's fault) that you are a part of a radical, extreme minority.

Did you ever think that the issue is one sided maybe because the side that is most expressed is the CORRECT side?? If you have an opinion and the majority of the people believe the opposite to be correct, that doesn't mean that you are being discriminated against for your beliefs. It just means that more likely than not, you are wrong!!

Or be un-noticed & fade away

You do not know for sure that is why this is not over

I do know for sure. Anyone that really understands sports, especially college sports, would understand that the sanctions are a serious issue. Just having the word "sanctions" associated with the program will chase away recruits. It's already happened according to Dale Lennon.

On one side of the argument you have people that probably couldn't tell you how many minutes are in a period for college hockey, or what offensive holding is in football. They say that the sanctions aren't serious. The other side is made up of people that are actually working in sports or in the University. They believe that the sanctions are going to harm the school. Which side should be the most believable? It's not over because a lot of people with absolutely no clue about what is happening got involved.

Try to come up with something new or proof other wise it's just still hear say from Fear

I'm a Sioux Hockey fan & proud to support Ralph Engelstads wishes

Did you ever stop and think maybe people are afraid for valid reasons? Fear is a necessary and useful emotion, just ask the deer that wasn't afraid to run in front of my car last fall.... oh wait.... nevermind.
