Conference Realignments - Take 2

Their fan base thinks they'll get in the B1G because of basket ball.

UConn is probably next in line for the ACC, but that could take decades.  BC and Syracuse may actually oppose them there.

The B1G requires an AAU school, which UConn isn’t.  The Conn legislature is spending massively to upgrade UConn’s research capability, but that can take generations to be AAU.

The American Conference has been promising P5 status ever since it started, so the schools spend like it will happen but it hasn’t happened and probably won’t.  The AAC will get a raise, but it will fall $15million short of what every ACC school gets.

The Big East and fb independence is the far safest way and it doesn’t eliminate its candidacy from the ACC.

Complicating thing further was that UConn made hockey big time when things still looked OK in the Big East.  Their promised large rink on campus has been cut to only a couple thousand seats now contrary to Hockey East’s demands.

UConn and St Louis

But the Big East has floated going with only 11 schools to get a true double round robin.

The Big East will likely guard its private status and UConn wasn’t a threat to that in the past.  The Big East really values it’s MSG tournament and UConn only cements that more.

Creighton would likely be the only major Wichita St booster.  They wanted the Shockers before it went AAC.

Which can easily be waived if they bring baseball to the Summit.

That's only half the equation (the entrance fee).

"If they never leave" kinda makes "waived entrance fee" moot. ;)

Would No Co reduce travel costs by moving to the Summit? Would they want to?

Would the MVFC let them in? Or would the Summit football conference get started?

Well if you ask the people on eGriz, they would kick UNC out of the conference no charge :p

after seeing the pathetic crowds after rejoining the ncc 2.0 why doesn't the league switch to the old ncc 1.0 scheduling format....every friday and saturday night at 7pm...true travel partners for every team (with augie or umkc joining the leauge)...but those BSC thursday/sunday stuff or the summit's random wed/thrusday/sunday stuff sucks....and i don't care if there is hockey next door at the exact same time as basketball.

At least the Thurs/Sun BSC stuff was consistent.... when the Summit gets to 10, I hope they go back to that instead of this "Everyday is a game" Summit plan.

consistent but still no fan friendly...for schools that close to their partner (und/ndac...usd.sdac) to to friday/saturday....for schools like denver and iupiui go friday eve/sunday afternoon...and for the love of god bring back umkc instead of adding augie@!

It doesn’t look good for NoCo moving to the Summit League as they would have exit and entrance fees.   Looks like they need to cut down on athletics:

There is no way in hell that Northern Colorado would ever even entertain for a second the idea of leaving the Big Sky for the Summit.

Never ever thought they were considering it, but plenty of posters wanted them, as they are considered a savior for the Summit.

NoCo wants a California/Arizona presence just like CU..  Attracting more out of state tuition is a major deal there, and plenty of Cali Kids want a place to party and ski, like Boulder, but much easier to get into.  NoCo didn’t have an DII opportunity with academics (much of the RMAC was NAIA) and time has ensured they won’t return.

UMKC wouldn’t return either for some of the same reasons, but Texas is more a focus just for potential students and alumni.

Don’t think that will happen because Midco passes big bucks to the Dakotas and they give Midco many favors in return.  Midco needs games on more than two nights.

The Big Sky didn’t have that arrangement with a single cable TV network that depended on it, so those nights were possible.

Midco would be a big proponent of Augie too, so they will be voted in.

There are at least two more DII schools that have completed DI feasibility studies that look to be DI soon:

CSU-LA and West Georgia

https://s3.amazonaws.com/sidearm.sites/dixieathletics.com/documents/2018/10/11/DSU_Feasibility_Study_10_1.pdf. Page 41 of Dixie St’s DI study

Augustana and Metro State of Denver haven’t apparently completed theirs.

Merrimack, UCSD and North Alabama have already stared their transitions.

The Horizon League is moving it’s tournament to IUPUI starting next year.

https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/college/2019/01/25/motor-city-sadness-horizon-league-pulls-plug-basketball-tournaments-detroit/2678057002/

So PUFW wants to go to Sioux Falls annually instead and doesn’t have an incentive to switch leagues according to bizzon and jack posters..

Detroit didn’t turn into an Arch Madness spot like St Louis.

The whole league is down and out.  Except maybe for NKU’s fan base.  What would PUFW give to have Konchar on that floor?

That arena is on the Indiana State fairgrounds near IUPUI.  Didn’t realize the ECHL’s Indy Fual plays there.  Never considered IUPUI as a place that hockey can lay down roots, so guess it’s possible without a new arena.

You are really good at making things up, bravo. No one has ever said Ft. Wayne does not want the Horizon. What people (think media types) have said, the Horizon does not want Ft. Wayne.

As for UNC. Again you spew the false theory that they pull in a high percentage of students from California. No, they don't. CU does because CU is a rich kids party school and Boulder is considered cool. Take a look at the demographics of UNC students. Ninety percent are from Colorado, the majority from the Northern Front Range and Northern Denver metro. Many are low income or middle income. Over 20% Hispanic with a large number being first generation. You get the picture, not really party skiing types.

Does it mean UNC would choose a move to the Summit? No, but the school has an issue in the Big Sky. No rivals, little success, isolated from the rest of the league, things have not gone well at UNC since moving up. At one time there had been talk of them dropping FB and attempting to join DU in the Summit. The school has a money problem, the money issue is still there, dropping FB seems to not be on the table right now.

Now continue on. It is always fun seeing you attempt to justify one of your new theory's.

So we are stuck with you saying schools are beating down the doors to get in the Summit and play in Brookings.

It is always fun to find you justifying your theories.   You have said Fort Wayne is comfortable in the Summit, so guess that is changing?  Before that, they didn’t want IUPUI and now they want the HL tournament on their court.  Before that Oakland, and before that Valpo.  No one wants in the Summit to the east or south.  West is the only direction left and very few have broached that.  For some reason, that is forbidden fruit to you.

Have to agree here.  I remember Greeley as being a blue collar, meat packing town.  I don't see Cali students flocking to Greeley.  It's not Boulder and it's not a PAC school.

California kids can hardly get into UC-anyplace now, as they are too exclusive.  Boulder and Fort Collin get some California kids, and they are welcome as they pay higher tuition and help the Boulder and Fort Collins numbers.  Their only public alternative for a degree is some Cal States, which have much reduced value depending on the degree.  All of them don’t qualify for AAU reduced tuition in Colorado.

If Northern Col is not looking and trying to get those students, they are incompetent. It only an hour further to ski.

Alabama has more than half its undergrad enrollment from outside the state, like Illinois, Texas and Georgia.  Saban is attracting them to the hellhole of Tuscaloosa, allowing the school to more than double enrollment and prosper.
