Couldn't they ask one of the Dakota 4 to start a mens soccer program?  I am actually surprised there isn't one yet amongst them.

If the WAC continues to become more unstable, what about NMSU?

No one has the Title IX maneuvering room.  NDSU would have to start three women’s sports as it is that short.  The SD schools have to deal with a much more stringent TIX situation that T IX dictates.  Arguably, UND dropping baseball allowed it to drop the much larger cost of women’s hockey.

The no cost solution is to start a Summit football league, and a lot more schools might be interested in that than Summit baseball.

If NMSU was interested, they would have already joined.

Why is this even an issue?  Isn't UND in the FBS WAC/Big Sky?

All snark aside, in under six months UND (sans FB and MIH) will be in the Summit.
The Summit not meeting the requirements I posted above costs a little thing called "an autobid".

Douple has never shown vision but has somehow kept that conference afloat through this situation several times.

I don't trust him but I do trust the decision-makers at UND wouldn't just jump to the Summit without having a little forethought.

A report out of San Diego says the MWC has been talking with Gonzaga about joining.  The MWC is in competition with the AAC for P5 status, and the AAC upped it mbb status by adding Wichita St.

Maybe it is  a ploy to get BYU back, which wouldn't want to stay in the WCC if Gonzaga wasn't there.

So will we hear anything from the Summit during the Tournament in Sioux Falls in regards to expansion?

Suspect that is too soon.  Last year the Horizon barely beat the July 1st deadline to invite IUPUI.

If Gonzaga goes to the MWC, suspect the BYU will leave the WCC too and go to the American.  BYU is just too prideful to go back to the MWC and they have made enemies there as they hatched a scheme to pull MWC teams to the WAC to create  a viable conference for themselves.  See Seattle going to the WCC and forcing the WAC to offer ORU, which is just as crucial to The Summit as IPFW.

Well, the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader came through with a story mostly about why Augustana would be an add.  Story confirms that Douple is clueless and IPFW wants out.  The Summit should be desperate because if one of IPFW, Western Illinois, or ORU leaves, they have to add a school with both baseball and men’s soccer.

Well Douple said that if the Summit wanted to add members that it could but to add members just because does not make sense.  Here is what he said

“We have a lot of options right now,” Douple added. “We could pick a number and we could do it tomorrow if we wanted to.”

So there is no reason to add teams just for the sake of adding teams.  By adding teams you water down the amount of money each team gets from the tournament.  If a team leaves then we just add a team.  Meanwhile maybe a better school will become available before a team does leave the Summit.

Here is another quote from the article - "Douple said the key to his job is patience."  So just because you think "the Summit should be desperate" that is far from reality.  So in the words of John Wooden "Never mistake activity with achievement".

Hope you realize what you have posted goes entirely against the premise of the Argus-Leader article on adding Augustana.  Augustana simply does nothing for the Summit for five years as Augie wouldn’t be a DI school and as Augie doesn’t have the correct sports mix after that.

I hope you realize that the article you posted in no way supports your doomsday predictions about the future of the Summit.

In the article, Douple acknowledges that change may be coming but expresses confidence that the Summit will be able to meet those challenges. The premise of the article regarding Augie is that they probably aren't able to move and that the Summit likely wouldn't want or need them anyway.

With UND in and UND dropping baseball, the Summit Presidents have to be thinking they won’t do things like before, relying on baseball and men’s soccer for an auto bid.  The future of the Summit must include football and sOme Big Sky schools to not only survive but thrive.  Keeping football out of the Summit is the surest way to Summit destruction.  Their business model will change, as numerous businesses do to throughout their lifetimes.

Of our Bison, Jacks and Yotes posters on the board, who do you see being the 10th team (lets say for the sake of argument that IPFW isn't going anywhere).  Do you go with the retread in UMKC or do you try something new in UNC? Or a surprise option?

UMKC or UNC not sure what the difference is.

I'd love to grab NMSU but that seems unlikely.

If we are basing on athletic programs I’d argue UNC would be more competitive than UMKC.  Now location wise would I rather go to KC or Greely? That’s an easy choice.  Both would solve an auto bid issue for separate reasons (UMKC for men’s soccer, UNC for baseball).  Of course the FB could be an issue for UNC as well. I’d like them try something new than do a retread.

I too would love NMSU, but I think there would need to be further WAC instability before that can be a possibility.

WIU is set to fiscally implode.
That staves off needing UMKC.

Let ORU go back south. (Do they really want Fargo in January?)
And that staves off "Greeley".

UND-NDSU
SDSU-USD
Omaha-Denver (easy flight)
Montana-Montana State
Idaho-EWU

There's 8FB, 10BB (7 FB games, 18 BB games).

Perfect would be one more FCS and one more BB only (9 FB, 12 BB; for 8 FB games*, 22 BB games).
Yes, this is where some bring up UNC and UMKC as the solution to that.

*Home/road annual balance.

Not bad.

WIU won't tolerate a Summit football conference.   They will leave as that too much travel for everything.

UNC wouldnt get accepted by the MVFC even if the Summit was just going after their Olympic sports.   UNC will stay West to protect all their sports as five isnt enough for Summit fb.

EWU isn't going now. CWU wil be brought to the according to their President for 2020 specifically for EWU travel. Chaves knew what was coming and he decided to move to a program that is elevating.  EWU can't afford to elevate itself, even with a couple years of pleas to fundraise for a new stadium.  EWU just threw in the towel and punted.

Weber St is building an athlete workout building attached to their 18k stadium that will be remarkably like Montana's upgrade.  Weber St will be Mont St travel partner and Montana will partner with Idaho.
