  1. Doug woog is in the US hockey hall of fame.....Didn't say either he or Hak were bad people or poor coaches....just that neither Woog, Hak or Bud Grant could close the deal..........

Al Davis and Hank Stram were less than stellar, character wise....but both won 'the big game'.....that's their  legacy....If Hak

wins the Stanley at some point.....that'll be his legacy....

Some Sioux sniffers....really are thinskinned....chill baby chill....and be thankful for Berry

  2. Hak is to UND...what Woog is to MN....great analogy.....both have their devotees...neither won a Natty...

Dave never won a national title as either player or coach?  Did the Woogster win one as a player with Gophers...??

Bud Grant never won the big one either....great motivator of men...not great with X's and O's...

They are what they are...that's why they keep score....

  3. Not seeing the trees becase of the forest...UND put in this position because of legislature...Only solution for ND budget shortfalli has been to cut....CA came out of crises by cuts and tax increases.,..,same for MN, cuts and increased tax  revenues...ND legislatively   asks for 7%, then 5%, then 10% across the board cut..,,Not just for universities, but all departments...There is NO more fat....Now it affects people and their lives...and now at the middle class university levels...earlier cuts affected the poor and working poor....but now when it affects middle class studnts and coaches...it gets'pub'...The U is not to blame for these deep cuts...Sure early on cuts may have trimmerd some fat..,,.but its beyond that now....November 8th...,turn out the real culprits...Would help, not only UND....but all peoples affected by public services

  4. No inside info ...but hope UND does go FBS.....it does add status to a university...and I think Kennedy wants that for the 'flagship'...Hockey is nice, locally, but in the grand scheme....pretty nongrattus....UND being FBS might balance the media/blog bias which hockey now enjoys.....It's getting like the UND hockey crowd is as obnoxious as the Bison football following......"Fair and balanced".....where have I heard that one??????

  5. Good points above...how many high school students from ND and NW MN compete in baseball/softball, golf. vs. hockey (both boys and girls)....Look at the attendance at the  ND boys and girls state hockey tourneys!!!!!  Fans disguised as empty seats...I would guess at the NCAA levels, ESPN's ratings are greater for baseball/softball than for mens/womens ICE hockey....Revenue also may be greater...

Let's be real...women's hockey is being spared to satisfy the 'big donors' as opposed to financial realities....C'mon President Kennedy....let's be fair across the board.....

  6. First off, I don't know if UND will go FBS or not, but I do agree with Sioux Volley on one account.  FBS status, prestige and publicity will do more for UND athletics than "FCS or hockey".....On the national scheme of things, collegiate hockey does not rate high...In fact ESPN  coverage of the post season is referred to as NCAA Ice Hockey tournament...to let people know which kind of collegiate hockey they are viewing....I do like hockey at the high school, college and pro levels...but it is not real mainstream with the majority of the US.....

  7. St.Peter's title, last I checked, was President-Minnesota Twins..not marketing director, not 'bean counter', etc. but President....If you hold Shafer, Clifford, Kennedy, Obama, Bush responsible because of that title......for what happens within their organization...then St. Peter should be held accountable for all things MN Twins...or be given another title....I stand by 'overmatched' by results of the product....Not everyone who is from ND or a UND grad is the 'ultimate "whatever"'....I still think he'd be a terrific AD.....Water seeks it's own level...and so do folks in the world of work.....

Go Fighting Hawks....beat the Bobcats...and congrats to VB team....

  8. JDub 27...it's about leadership...Kennedy has never been a president of a university before.....St. Peter, if a leader, would be fine....being an AD at this level is not 'rocket science'...it's about leadership, communication skills, etc....Without looking could you name a majority of AD's in the Big Sky? Nielson, SD coach became AD at Duluth......Roger Thomas, became AD at U.of Mary...without previous AD experience...I think St. Peter would do just fine...It's also about fund raising...and he would do well there...Well known in the state...and prolly could tap into some Twin City alums....

  9. Dave St. Peter for AD.....I attended the USD football game and Faison's on field demeanor during various presentations gave the impression of an unhappy warrior, flat facial expression, slow gate, slumped shoulders....Perhaps realizing he's a short timer....I look for President Kennedy to bring in one of his Twin City 'buds' and a UND alum Dave St. Peter to run the athletic department.  St. Peter, a ND native, would be well suited for UND, he being overmatched in his present position of Twins President, may also be seeking a change of scenery.  Good fit for both UND and St. Peter....

    Make it happen GOBC!!!!!

  10. You are making my point about arrogance of the program.....You all know which coach is referenced....Barry does seem like a nice guy....and was what the program needed....Wish him nothing but the best....immediate preceding coach...not so much....Philly is a non-forgiving sports town....Carson Wentz...beware!!!!!!!

Come on posters...be classier than the Bizon FB followers

  11. Not defending Lucia by any stretch....he is on a short leash because of his lack of recent success...but the rivalry was ceased because of the BIG stopping matches with schools with unapproved names...ie. Iowa backed out of a UND BB game for same reason...Once UND got that behind them...the rivalry continues...good for both schools...But.....lets unleash the elephant in the room....the 'arrogance' was/is not because of the action of the kids on the ice....as they are just that, kids...but  behind the bench....a view held by several adults in the GF community....Again, lack of humility...where, just like J Robinson..."I am greater than the university or the game i coach'...kapeesh?????

  12. Not ashamed to say....living in MN I am first a Gopher fan and second a UND fan....I also can 'flame' on occasion, but just a reaction to lack of humility.....J. Robinson, recently fired wresting coach at the U...was a success.....but thought 'he' was bigger than the 'game' he coached...lack of humility....Don't like that....no matter where/when or what!!!!

  13. I would like to see expansion of collegiate hockey to encompass all parts of the US, so as to non-regionalize the game....I really like hockey...However, I have been accused by moderators of this site as 'hating' hockey with a threat of banishment for my thoughts.  I have followed UND hockey since the mid-1950's, listening to games on the radio with my father and uncles.  In fact as a young boy attended a UND game at the 'old barn'....I was pretty young, and do not remember who was playing; but do remember that I was cold. Going way back to those days, UND teams had talent, determination, and played and won with, humility.  Those characteristics have been prevalent thru 50-60 years. The teams commencing about 2007-08 still were rife with talent and determination; however, the winning with humility gradually gave way to a sense of 'arrogance'..Success can still foster humility, but, for me, the 'feel' has changed.  UND is not alone in this. The football program at NDSU also has demonstrated high levels of talent, determination....but not so much humility.

I forsee success for UND football with improved talent, determination....but I don't think Bubba could ever lead a program without instilling a 'win with humility' concept.

I do love hockey...and oft would scrape snow off the 'coulee' behind the barn to create a sheet on which to play.

Banished for expression of thought???? I hope not...

  14. Dear Management Team:...Now that I know the 'line has been drawn'.....I'll behave...and be 'thread pure'.....I really do love this site as I like the recruiting news.... and news of the prognosis for most UND sports...i truly am a UND fan...and know several past and current athletes..... and am excited for the upcoming FB season and also M/W BB and look eagerly forward  to the rebrand.....

    John

  15. I love this stuff...recruiting etc...I wish this site would devote more apace and time to football, basketball (M/W) and VB...and stop 'wetting' itself on hockey...which is all over it's home page...Hockey is only important in GF,  and about 6 other communities in the 250,000  population Grand Forks service area....Also when is this site going to drop the 'S***x' name....talk about beating a dead horse...it's over.....you lost!!!!!

Love the site...but please....move on!!!!!  Who cares when some 17 year old kid goes to BC to play 'ockey!!!!!!  Or who from Union may go pro!!!!!!

  16. Rebranding...it happens with frequency these days...the MN Timberwolves are contemplating a rebrand...with new color variations and change with the 'Wolf' design.....the trend is away from the 'heavy' looking logo, which the former UND logo was, to a cleaner, simpler look....Look at the rebrand of various NHL, NBA and NFL teams...as well as many major college teams....Who can keep up with the Oregon Ducks????? You will see the clean, simple look......

Refreshing to hear/read of coach Bubba's statements about moving ahead and embracing the new look/image....Time for 'puck-suck' crowd to do so also....Coach Berry seems like a good guy, but perhaps is being held hostage by those who like to live in the past...BTW....love this site....but how about a 'rebranding'????????
