I totally agree that the game atmosphere is going down and we could use a boost.  Part of the problems are baked in now, but part could be solved by some changes.  The corporate atmosphere was sealed when they decided to make lower bowl tickets contingent on a serious Sioux Club membership level.  Part of the student problem was when they didn't put the students on the end and built without figuring out that standing would block the view of others.  (I can see both sides of the standing issue - We really need the students engaged and cheering - however,  I have been in a suite several times when the students stood in front of us for no particular reason - not play related - just standing, chatting, and texting.  Extremely frustrating.)  Things that could change - the eternal vigilance on the student section - just looking for anyone having too much fun.  If there is a problem fine - deal with it.  But putting them under the microscope really dampens their mood.  Find more ways to involve the students with organized cheers, more band - have a student group search for ways - this is not the same type of student that went to the Old Ralph - more texting than cheering.  Finally, have someone who knows and enjoys hockey run the Ralph game day and PA system.  The crap that comes over the system every time play stops is a real mood and cheer killer.  Many times the crowd is really into it only to be interrupted by some ad over the loudspeaker.  Same with the music.  We need the crowd cheering at the breaks.  Take some of the profit and subsidize whatever payout they get from all of the ads.  This is corporate greed and a mood killer. (also put out a team that is exciting.  Watching them try gain the zone on a power play or chip it off the glass then all rush to the corner is ultra boring.  Few break-aways or odd man rushes.  Also, giving up a goal within about a minute of us scoring really dampers the mood too).  We can have the best atmosphere in college hockey with some planning and tweaks and a scoring upgrade.

I recall watching a Duke basketball game and the students were chanting in unison, "Pass, pass, shot, pass".  I've always thought that would be great for the students to do on a penalty kill.

The entry music for the games could use some work. I haven't been to a game in a few years so this may have changed but the Phil Collins, while not terrible, didn't get my blood pumping.  I am a fan of VT so Enter Sandman is a favorite entry, not to duplicate but something similar.

Without question this is the key to the game. After watching MI/ND there is little doubt IMO that the more 5 on 5 that is played the more it favors UND. The CCM line had zero desire to play a 200 foot game yesterday. Their blue line 1-6 is a bunch of Joe Finley's......sorry Joe. Racine is giving up 3 per game......and that's mostly vs. the putrid B1G conference teams. Cam didn't look sharp yesterday. Needs to be better. Disappointed will be an understatement if UND loses today.

    5-3 SIOUX

Take a look at their goalie in these highlights.  He doesn't seem to track the puck at all.  Also the goal by Motta is nice so don't let him become free.

I am literally being dragged to Bed, Bath, and Beyond this morning to do my wedding registry. I hope that is enough incentive for everyone on this message board to have a beer for me as soon as they read this. Negativity aside, I woke up with a good feeling...and it wasn't that I was going to find the perfect his and her bath towels. LET'S GO!!!! 3-2 Sioux

At least she took you before the game.

4-2 Sioux (EN).  Cam playing near home with friends and family in the crowd...  He'll play well.

Hope Hhound gets back on with his final thoughts.

  6. Northeastern vs teams in NCAA:  5-8-4

North Dakota vs teams in NCAA:  7-4-1

Living in SEC country - I don't buy into the argument of "The last x National Champions came from our division therefore our division is the best top to bottom."  If you take a look at their records vs the best teams, that can paint a different picture.

  7. Interesting to dig through also...

Looking at the statsnit looks like it should be a great game! I definitely don't watch much Hockey East so I know next to nothing about them but the two teams look similar. Interesting to note that both teams are below 50% on faceoff wins. It could come down to the small things..

Anyone care to dig through rosters to figure out average size?

  10. My favorite Sioux-gophers game was Jan. 22, 1999. Sioux go down 3-0 before Goehring put back in the line-up. 3-1 UMN after 1. 5-3 UMN after 2... Sioux put 3 on the board in the third to win the game. I believe it was Blake who got the 6th Sioux goal. The Old Ralph was louder than I have ever heard the new Ralph. Adam Houser was MN goalie giving up 6.

I used to have the game on VHS but what good is that now? I'd love to see video of it again sometime.

A few dead rodents later - "Fans - please refrain from throwing items onto the ice. Failure to do so will result in a penalty for the home team."

  11. My keys to the game...

    • Get through the first 5 minutes without a goal against or penatly. If you get a penalty, kill it like last night.
    • Hit them hard but smart and play the body well. There was a period of time last night that the Sioux hit them hard and I think that played a roll in the late first period.
    • PP - Our 5 minute (which I agree with others it should've been 2) was terrible. Get the puck in the zone and set up our PP. Many have noticed but our D-men have been good at getting the puck in the zone and carrying it on their stick this year.
    • Last night before UM's first goal, they stole it from us in our D-zone. Control the puck in the D-zone and clear or pass to the open guy. Don't p**s around.
    • No 5 minute majors. None.

I'm curious to see what all you folks with hockey brains have to say about my keys.

  12. I was in Sams club one day and they had a set up where you could put whats on your tablet on your television. Wouldn't this work with an iPad? With a smart tv, there's got to be a way to put up these broadcasts. I know, I was looking at this gizmo yesterday at office max that was like a smart DVD player without the dvd.I am also wondering if this would work? NeoTV Prime with Google TV

For Christmas last year my dad got me an Apple TV. I can mirror my tablet and phone to my television this way. The bummer is it is $100 for Apple TV. Those with Microsoft products will save coin with the same options. The problem in face besides my slow internet is the iPad screen stretches for about ~80% of my television. I consider that a first world problem though.

  13. What fools we are at UND! Who would dump national TV coverage on a sport and replace it with a quirky, costly computer coverage. Dumb!!!! It is my understanding that they did this for the NCHC to secure a partial TV deal. It looks like we did not look out for the interest of UND and this will be the death of the UND hockey recruiting and fan base!!

I am very disapointed with the leadership (or lack thereof) who allowed this to happen. Who ever endorsed this deal should be fired!

Please let me know who i can send a letter. Unfortunately, the letter will not contain money until the get this resolved.

    What a joke!!!!!!

Sit down, relax, have a beer. This won't hurt recruiting. While I agree it is very annoying, this will be short term in the scheme of things. My guess is the games will be available in a few years on dish/DirecTV/cable. In the meantime streaming online will work so I'm happy about that.

Maybe we need to do a UND hockey Surge with Midco Sports Network. Let them know who you feel. There's no reason that MIDCOSN shouldn't be on DirecTV and Dish Network.

Done twice with Direct. Perhaps Midco could come out with a viewing app or be available with smart tv (appletv for example) that would trump Nulion's coverage. I'm not betting on that but I've contacted them about it.

  14. Overall my connection was a 6 of 10. I just switched to AT&T and believe my connection is slow so that could likely be the issue with buffering. I'm going to try connecting to my neighbors wifi tonight to see if that is indeed the issue, with permission of course.

One issue. Had was the game skipping ahead by 10 seconds. Even f I rewound it the feed skipped. I'm curious if anyone else had that issue. The picture was terrific at times and SD at times.

Jayson, thank you for helping us all with the viewing options.
