  1. Here's something very nice to see...Grand Forks is hopping this weekend, abuzz with a youth hockey tournament.  Parking lots, restaurants, hotels are packed. And I couldn't be happier.

    Let them play. Screw COVID.

  2. Despite the very slippery slope, I think I can stomach the helmet ads. The ones I have seen so far seem to have been kept simple, and relatively elegant. Mostly monochrome, tasteful, understated. Hope they stay that way, and stick with top tier sponsors, and high-quality vinyl/decals.

    Change is hard.

Sorry to hear that. Might that be the least of your problems. No tickets? No ID to get into a pub? No passport to travel?  If someone wants to try to decrease risks to other attendees and at the same time increase the opportunity for others to attend an event and you aren’t willing to participate, then don’t go. That’s one of the privileges of living in a free country. I’ve traveled into communist countries. This doesn’t compare.

Sporting events have been ticketed for decades. Bars have restricted access by minors and carded patrons for decades. Most international travel has required a passport for...ready for this, decades.

The vaccine has been available literally for hours.

Let that sink in. And then come back and tell us what a comparison is.

Team Germany just had half their team test positive for the Rona.  I'm sure all will be retested, but not a great start for de bubble de Edmonton.  Also some Swede staff members.

Good news though for Austria and Germany is no relegation this year so they can both get killed and not worry about moving down.  More good news is that all the officials are Canadian, which hopefully means no ticky tack European officials penalty crap we've gotten used to for years.

Not to set the dumpster alight, but is this an indication that the west simply has adopted different or less stringent testing criteria?  Presumably, the entire traveling party was tested extensively in the days and weeks leading up to departure.  Yet by European standards (where the numbers have been touted as being far less), they were all cleared.

  5. Random "Stay on Thread" Thoughts:

    - Fledgling regional Mexican restaurant coming soon into the old Ruby Tuesday location.

    - Mexican/Guatemalan restaurant in the Columbia Mall "food court" still a going concern (somehow).

    - If anybody here has a pot of cash and a moderately high net worth, the former Hardees tract at 17th & Columbia just screams Raising Cane's to me. (Be the first in the Dakotas!)

While I am glad all these projects are moving forward, would like to see a report on how many properties in Grand Forks are currently receiving some type of property tax benefit. It seems the list just keeps growing on a monthly basis, while the homeowner is seeing the property tax increases. Grand Forks still has bills to pay and what doesn't come from commercial taxes will come from residential ones.

Re-open the dumpster fire thread and assess taxes at a nickel a post. :)

  7. At the risk of venturing too deep into politics in a restaurant thread, let's just say that if tyrannically-minded politicians keep enacting and trying to enforce draconian and misguided measures with shameful if not radical indifference to the effects on their citizens, there may be no restaurants left at which to eat.

Believe I saw a skinned car in pics from ths pod so it wasnt an immediate thing.

Read "skinned car" and had an entirely different, much more threatening visual.

Kinda like Coach returning to his hotel room in Omaha, finding a paper-wrapped package, and opening it to find a valet key from an old Chevy Cavalier.

It's a dealer's message. It means Luca Berry now drives the economy cars.

Biggest loser from this kneeling???? The football program, they can’t afford to take a hit from donors. What productive things has this kneeling by two white boys done so far? Nothing but piss people off, and now oppressed the rest of the athletic department....

Relax. It's a rumor until shown otherwise. And it's one freaking sponsor.

If you're concerned about the fiscal health of UND Athletics, you'd better direct your energy elsewhere:  like Biden, Burgum, Armacost, Fauci, NCAA.  If the fan lockout continues much longer, Rydell's sponsorships are chump change between the sofa cushions.

Wondered why there was no rydell logo on the seat banner.

Meh, limited real estate there. Thought absolutely nothing of it.

Besides, those ads were sold well in advance of knee-gate.

less money the hockey team the less money the football team, volleyball team, and basketball team have....trickle down to the sports that are fighting for every dollars they can find....

brad berry should've gone 100% like the hockey coach  out east that said that anyone kneeling out there get the !@#$ out.

You're one of those 'have a headache => must be an inoperable brain tumor' types, aren't you?

what if their is no next car dealer up....good job brad berry.

Now you're just making things up to get angry about.  First thing first, let's let the rumor be confirmed, and then let's have the ad market dry up, and then you can fret.

Wes pulled sponsorship(s) and the free cars bc of our two social justice warriors...anyone heard this anywhere?

Short-sighted decision, if true.  A public statement would have sufficed.

Then again. it's not like Rydell needs the additional exposure of buying ad time/space at REA. Their brand is ubiquitous.

Next car dealer up.  Maybe Corwin or Luther wants some market penetration in GF?

Please dont compare Catholic church to players kneeling?

And why is that? It's abundantly clear to me that the reverence several people on here feel for the flag and anthem is on par with religion.  The Mass is a rite full of symbolic words and gestures engaged in by a group of like-minded individuals, just like standing and singing the national anthem or reciting the pledge of allegiance.  Any deviation from the norm is both noteworthy and immediately perceptible.

I think the parallels are far more than you realize.

Or maybe you should endeavor to understand what is in the poster's heart instead of two white kids that have no idea what racism actually is.

Thanks for the tip, but I'd say the poster made it pretty gosh darn clear what is in her heart.  A lot of unresolved grief and resentment, apparently, manifesting in a positively vile way that projects onto others and seems to blind her to or at least limit her view on a complex issue.

Whenever I see players kneeling for the anthem, I get a visual picture of them spitting on a flag draped coffin in front of the family.   Maybe having childhood neighbor Steve, and high school classmate Leo, come home this way makes it more personal to me.

That's heavy. Ironically, perhaps, Steve and Leo died under an oath to defend the Constitution, not your feelings. But what's done is done.

Maybe you should endeavor to understand what is in those players' hearts, rather than judge them on a single perceived slight.

    Cheers.

How will this play with the 'administrative bloat at UND is bad' crowd?  Especially since UND ended up making some significant administrative cuts, as I recall.
