  1. The wide open game you talk about is in the WCHA. The issue is in the play in the WCHA. The WCHA still likes the clutch-and-grab style of hockey. Every league follows the NCAA Rulebook. Why is it that people across hockey don't like the WCHA officials? 1 reason people don't like them (especially when it comes to NCAA Tournament time is because they allow more physical play than do other league's officials. In my mind that is allowing a more wide open game. However more teams like the clutch-and-grab style in the WCHA. That to me is more a coaching issue. Part of the reason for the parity in the WCHA, UAA was better this past year, Gophers have struggled, UNO, and Bemidji are strong teams. Sure the races are closer but is that the officials or just a sign of expansion and teams becoming more competitive?

    Just to clarify, allowing the clutching and grabbing is not allowing a more wide open game.

  2. If there are schools that broke away from the WCHA to form a league because of the WCHA leadership being poor, what makes you think they are going to want the bumbling buffoons that ref in the WCHA? I doubt the member schools would want them clowns reffing their games... I wouldn't count on them being allowed to ref the NCHC.

    I'm totally on board with everyone here - WCHA officiating is horrible. That said, it's not like there is some giant surplus of awesome referees lying around waiting for jobs. I think that if the Commisioner and Head of Officiating of the NCHC are truly held accountable to the member schools, some of the refs currently working in the WCHA could work in the NCHC.

  3. We obviously don't want to sit with a 6 team conference for too long. We've speculated about all the Western schools, but is there any way that any or all of the four Atlantic Hockey schools that looked into jumping to the CCHA (Canisius, Mercyhurst, Niagara and Robert Morris) might move to the NCHC now that the CCHA is all but gone? And for that matter, would we want them? On the positive side, they seem eager to spend more on hockey.

  4. It's the off-season, Francis. :glare::silly:

    Fair enough - but can we at least rip them based on the product they put on the ice, like the 0 regular season championships and 1 lonely WCHA final five championship title in 22 years in the league, to go along with their 0 NCAA tourny wins and 0 frozen four appearances. After all, that's what this is all about, right? The product on the ice? (For the record, during the sames 22 season span, UND has 7 regular season championships, 5 WCHA final five championships, 2 national championships, a slough of NCAA tourney wins, and 7 frozen four appearances).

  5. I don't understand why this thread won't end. We get it, some Sioux fans are a-holes, and some Husky fans are a-holes. Sioux fans don't want to play in a league with St.Cloud, and Husky fans don't want to play in a league with UND. Sounds like we all agree, and with UND moving to the NCHC and St.Cloud staying in the WCHA, sounds like we all may get our wish (not counting women's games, which is a separate issue entirely). So let's just move on. When the argument has gotten to the point that we're ripping each others flooring choices, it's time to stop.

  6. According to the USCHO commitments thread, Swedish National Team player Klara Myren formerly listed as a UND recruit has decided to play at Vermont. I cannot vouch for the accuracy but it sounds like legit info.

    Yes, Klara Myren is listed on Vermont's roster. Another one of the original four Europeans to commit to UND following the Olympics is also missing from UND's roster - Cecilia Ostberg. Those were the two players who actually played for Peter Elander on the Swedish Olympic team. Anyone know the story on this? I know we have alot of freshman coming in, but sucks to lose two Olympians who actually played for one of your coaches.

  7. Ranking the "best" fan bases is obviously very subjective yet you say there is "no denying it" when claiming UND has the best. And have you ever attended a game at the Ralph dressed in a Gopher Jersey? Try it one time and then try to claim with a straight face that you guys treat opposing fans the best.

    I sat next to a Gopher fan at The Ralph one time. Complete drunken jerk. It would have been miserable if Holy Cross had lost.

  8. I know some of the girls that have played against some of these girls and I gotta tell ya that they are good.....but not great. I have seen them play. Every time they have played them they have either beat them or tied them. Shelby Amsley-Benzi is the real deal though. Tough goaltender. Leah Jensen is the real deal too. She goes not-stop. The Marvin girls I am not so sure.Good players but not outstanding. Kayla Gardner can be good and has an absolutley wicked wrist shot. The Salo kid I really haven't seen play. The Kaiser girl too is good but not great. In my opinion, since we have gotten the twins, you have to compare any recruits coming in to them because they have set the standard. IMHO, these girls are not even close to the Lamarouux's. Now that is not to say that they won'thave great careers at UND.

    I don't think you have to compare any incoming players to the twins. You just have to look at the overall picture and ask if they will help improve the team.
