Great ball movement by UND on that Hooker 3 point shot.
Jones needs to preach defense from now on in this game. With how poor Idaho State is shooting, they've dug themselves into a deep hole; Jones can't let his team let them back into it.
-
Shanks is playing with his typical lousy style of play. Too many turnovers.
Thankfully, UND is hitting shots and Idaho State is turning it over too. UND needs to be more disciplined and secure the damn ball.
-
Good energy to start.
These announcers on Watch Big Sky are quite interesting....
I do like the color analyst though; he's entertaining.
-
Good ball game. Weber State did all it could to win that one. If UND beats Idaho State, they better not lay an egg against Weber State; WSU is beatable, especially on a neutral floor.

I believe Nagy's .780 winning percentage in nine years as a dII coach at SDSU bought him more time than most coaches would have gotten under the circumstances.
No doubt.
In Jones' two years coaching in the NCC (2006-2008), he went 26–32. In Jones' four years coaching in the Great West (2008-2012), he went 60–64.
Nagy won as a DII coach but struggled during the transition; however, Jones relatively struggled with both a DII schedule and transitioning DI schedule.

you are right jones taking last place talent and finishing 4th in league RPI ...you are right he deserves an extension...thanks for backing me up
So Jones coaches for the worst basketball school, gets paid the lowest of all DI coaches, and has the worst talent in the Big Sky Conference....
Anything else we should know about? Goodness, the guy might be the next thing to Coach K with all the fictional odds you keep stacking against him.

great job jones and team...big win
UND just beat a 5-24 SUU team...you call that a big win? C'mon man. UND played poor.
UND was supposed to beat SUU (although you can't expect anything with Jones coaching); UND was the 5th seed and SUU was a lowly 12 seed.
if UND wants to get a "big win", they can now start winning in the quarterfinals vs teams that have actually won double-digit games. But I suppose you would even think a win against Mayville is special since it adds to Jones' pathetic W-L record...

Look at the big picture, people. If these kids are not capable of correcting their behaviors after watching their fellow teammates get punished, then they are too selfish to be apart of the ultimate team sport. It's simple; if they screw up again after the message sent, they're off the team. You can't win with selfish players...most of the time.
-
Pathetic. Need to do way better, but I suppose we should just be happy that UND's men's basketball team won 10 games this season...

100% dead wrong again .... facts baby facts...Jones is lowest paid coach in BSC as well as NCAA...Jones has been to 4 CIT tourneys plenty of coaches making more money have accomplished less...are you uninformed or just a bald faced liar????
What part of that statement is wrong? That Jones deserves more money? That is not a fact, but rather an opinion. The facts are that Jones WAS hired as a DII coach, and HAS NOT been able to win a Big Sky Conference tournament championship. He has a 136–161 overall record as UND's coach. That sub-par record is not deserving of anything "worthwhile".
I'm just going to say it: you are unable to comprehend facts. Or you are just playing devil's advocate and want to argue against common sense.

A couple 18 year old kids got caught with marijuana. I am not supporting that behavior, but c'mom; they deserve the chance to at least correct their behaviors. Have you noticed that nice contingent of student-athletes at the UND basketball games? Those are mostly football players, so I'd say they have some positive character. Not to mention Bubba has been head coach of UND football for only two years and so far he has a real nice trend going (5-7 to 7-4, including a 3-game winning streak). What kind of trend has Jones put together over his head coaching career? 10 years of 0.500 basketball.

Wow. I think he made a splash. Should make a camp and get an opportunity at least. Doubtful he'll get drafted since he'll be considered a FB which is the dinosuar position of the NFL...but one never knows...

This list is important for one main reason: it allows UND to transfer over the atmoshphere hype of hockey to football, rather than trying to start something new. UND students and fans are already familiar with the fog horn and Chelsea Dagger celebration, so let's use that to our advantage rather than work around it. Same goes for fireworks on touchdowns/goals and lights off for the intro; all things the Ralph implements quite well and the Alerus should too. It's time to make this a UND thing, not just a hockey thing.

Unfortunate situation and they will need to be punished, likely by sitting out a game or two. With that said, they're both young and deserve a chance to correct their behaviors while still playing UND football. Bubba will take care of this and I have faith this will smooth over.

All these are good ideas and should be implemented to improve the atmosphere, but wins are what will keep people coming.
I overheard a 5th grade girl in Minot this weekend talking to her friend about how much she loves going to UND hockey games, but she's a bison fan because the UND football team sucks. We may have lost a generation for a while, and it will take some time but Bubba is making progress...he now needs the PR machine to work as hard as he does.
The perception of NDSU vs. UND is a relevant one, although many UND fans don't want to admit to it. It will take some time, but Bubba has produced a winning program so it will continue to get better.
I wholeheartedly agree with your statement on PR/marketing and productions; Bubba needs some help in order to get UND football where he and us want it. You can't have a one man band with college athletics. The Alerus Center gameday productions crew can't be complacent; this is the time to act (music, intro, cues, etc.) due to the team's budding success.

UND is on a 4-game losing streak away from the Betty. If we don't want to talk about how incapable Brian Jones is, should we talk about how this team can't win on the road? The FACT is UND MBB is on a 4-game road losing streak; not something you want to take into a conference tournament, regardless if it's on a neutral floor or not. Reno will still be more foreign than playing in the Betty in front of the home crowd.

Suspend them both for 1 or 2 games. Very unfortunate but necessary.
If it happens again, they're done.

Never good. Very disappointing.

Funny how none of the folks running the show at UND agree with 10-15 Team/Jones bashers on this board
This is incorrect. There are plenty within the UND athletic department who realize what eventually needs to happen for UND MBB to take the next step. It's inevitable; just a matter of time and money.
In other-words, I second what @UND-1 posted.

Add to that PR across all sports that drive football support.
Drive Way MORE PR About even having an indoor stadium and new facilities. SD is trumpeting all over the place and I hardly hear about what UND is.
Theme nights-kids free, senior discounts, troll the nursing homes and assisted living places, grade school readings, and get that young kid vibe going--it is a very big deal to get kids excited because it gets parents going. Grandparents are always looking for something to do with their gk's and having kids on the team willing to get out into the community is big.
This sounds silly but make the recruiting exciting visible and highlights of the already signed players more visible.
Run campaigns on the new name of the mascot and get that going. Even if you don't agree with the new name they should be running every campaign they can with that new name because guess what? It's official. Fan shots with the most creative display of the new mascot and name twitter campaigns, best baby photo with football fan gear contests...the cheesier the better. Get em going.
Get green and gold days going.
Be bold and visible about what your goals are for the year and how to get there--for every touchdown donate the football team to a team cause and blast that out. Be the most community oriented sport on campus.
PR: Support from the Sororities/Frats/various clubs
PR: Date night that with "dinner and/or drinks at @@ whatever cheaper popular dinner place" might be with cross marketing from both to drive it
Tail-gaiting activities--fun ones. Make it an event.
What is the booster club like? I haven't looked into this at all. Is there football specific booster? How active is it?
Award the local businesses with the most fan swag displayed by actually going to their business.
Yeah, not sure about that one...

All talk no action ...write out a check to UND Hoops for 500K contingent on a new coach being hired and maybe Faison wil bite....By the if anybody with any brains and authority agreed with you Faison would be gone.
Not quite sure what you contribute to other than disagreements with the vast majority of people on this board. You're content with average basketball; that's your prerogative and I respect that. However, I also do not think there is anything wrong with setting the expectations a bit higher for UND basketball. It's difficult to accomplish great things with petty expectations.

Jones' track record speaks for itself. UND is one of the only schools in the midwest that puts up with this kind of mediocrity (10+ years of no conference championships) and it is quite sickening. Yes, he won the lowly Great West tournament a couple times, only to then lose in the first round of the CIT both times (Air Force and Drake). His other two CIT appearances also included first-round loses to UNI and transitioning Nebraska-Omaha (ouch!).
There are so many excuses (young team, needs more time, has finished in top 3 of BSC before, improvement from 2014-15 to 2015-16), but they are just that, excuses. His overall record is poor and UND needs to upgrade, desperately. At this point, Faison comes off as just not caring one bit, and for this alumnus and booster, that rubs me the wrong way.
