What is up with the CCHA this year?  Mankato is their highest Pairwise team at 29 and the AHA has two teams higher (RIT 22 and Holy Cross 27).  I don't have the inter-conference records but the CCHA must have been blasted this year.

Another note is on CC.  They have a couple of comparisons they are losing to Augustana and Arizona State that will take a sweep of DU at the end of the year to flip.  Those two comparisons could prove very costly to their NCAA aspirations.

I mean, Mankato has typically propped up the conference when it comes to non-conference for years. We lost our top 9 scorers either through graduation, leaving early or going in the transfer portal in addition to all 3 coaches, the hockey ops and strength and conditioning coach. To put the player in context, the 3 that went to wisconsin have 23 goals and 65 points.

As for the rest of the conference, tech shat the bed. BG had a police investigation a week or two before the season. Nmu lost a few guys and are badly underachieving. Msu is still in 1st place (Granted we have a couple games in hand, so that plays into it. Just goes to show how important one or two teams are in non-conference results.

And you thought Persson had a rough save % tonight...BSU lost 5-1 despite outshooting Mankato 32-15.

    ;)

Weird game, I never felt like bsu was really in the game though. Lots of outside shots. First goal was a Maverick player being checked into the goalie and laying on top of him while the goal was scored. The tone was set there. Between that, an extremely good cross ice pass, a breakaway goal and an empty netter, the goalie didn't play badly. Msu just took advantage of opportunities

Whatever, I loved it. A lot of pride on that Purple cow team.

There is a 2 ton chip on the shoulder.of these guys. You could hear it in some of the quotes from Sam Morton this summer. That dude is the definition of a leader. It's unfortunate that all our Pairwise building Games are at the beginning of the year because I see this team like the sandelin teams where they build throughout the year and peak at the end. I'm not predicting a national championship, but I do believe they are going to get stronger and stronger as the year goes on.

Statistically, for the record,  UND has a slightly better power play percentage by a couple tenths or so lol. I looked up some national stats the other day to see if there was anything interesting.

I.mean, we were 0-14 on the weekend. Now, I will say, you can definitely see there is a lack of chemistry that's just going to take some time. It will get better. I'm certain of that.

Looks to me like he didn't do Jack for Mankato long term; What he did was for himself, and he took it all with him when he left.

He did do a ton. The facilities are sooooo much better than before. Got fan support behind our team (not coming to see our opponents). Built an operational structure that is built to win. I'm not going to say that I'm not disappointed in the way he left because I am. I just hope strand is as good as people think he is and it's almost a larson/scsu situation where he takes us another level. I wouldn't be surprised if he was mercilessly booed if he ever came back though.

My bigger concern is that college hockey is becoming like football and basketball. Those cesspool are something I want no part of. I firmly believe the sec and big ten are going to destroy college sports as we know it and I'm not sure that's a good thing.

  6. I'll tell ya. I think Hastings hurt his legacy in Kato with all of this. Just the few comments I've heard have not been all that flattering. Everyone respects what he did for us and understands the business side of it, but lots of people holding on to some hard feelings.

On CHNs last podcast of the year McMahon mentioned that every portal entrant he spoke with said they want to go to a Big Ten team. Not sure what sort of selection bias was applied, but NCHC seems to be dethroned in the eyes of current players.

I truly think it's because of TV and NLI. As soon as hockey programs can start capitalizing on NLIs, the Big Ten is going to have a VERY wide advantage on everyone else.

  8. My new response is just going to be "F 'em" from now on. Apparently lost Jack Phelan today too....not sure who that dude is though.

I think I'm going to start keeping track of how many goals/points/other we lost for the next couple seasons with all the defections. I have a feeling this is going to be mind blowing. Lots of high enders leaving. Guys that our program has missed out on for years that were finally considering us.

    Mankato being absolutely gutted.

Gamache has the potential to be a difference maker.

I have high hopes for strand as coach, but, man, it could be a rough road.

I honestly thought we had the makings of another contender next year with the guys returning and the recruits coming in. This is tough. On the flip side, strand has signed a couple of pretty good looking recruits in the last few days.
