  1. I like Hellsten but I'd feel a lot more comfortable adding a proven transfer for him to compete with.

The other key for me as long as you get the guys back that you think should be back which in my mind means only Sanderson as an early departure is that we have to have the young guys coming in be the skilled guys and we need to see some self improvement from some of the other guys.

Looking at the returning group of forwards you have a lot of guys that just seem to play basically the same style. Hard on the forecheck, good in the cylce/along the boards, average speed at best, not great playmakers. You have Gaber that stands out as the guy that is different. Portz, Albrecht, Ness, Jamernik, Kunz, Montgomery all play that similar style and too many times this year you had Costantini, Caulfield, and Calder fall into that group as well. Need Costantini, Caulfield, Schmaltz, and probably at least one more guy to have an uptick in the speed/skill game. I remember the way Chyzk's skating and skill seemed to take a big jump I think it was between JR/SR seasons and we need some improvements like that. Do we think all of Blake, James, McLaughlin, Spicer, and Strinden come in? If so I think I'd go:

    Gaber-Schmaltz-Blake

    Costantini-McGlaughlin-Caulfield

    James/Strinden-Jamernik-Calder

    Spicer-Ness-Albrecht

    Kunz-Montgomery-Budy

    Kleven-Frisch

    Jandric-Bast

    Moore-Johnson

    Ferner-? Dunbar ?

    Hellsten

    Hedquist

    Feeney/Johnson

Didn’t really expect this team to do much this year but how they lose games is ridiculous. Also, not being able to recruit actual skill with our resources is also ridiculous.

Completely agree. This just was not a typical Sioux team talent and skill wise especially down Sanderson. The lack of team speed and playmaking in this forward group was a problem many of us saw very early in the season and it reared its head these last couple weeks big time. Honestly I just wanted this group to make the tournament and hoped for a little puck luck so that run they went on to win a NCHC Championship was pretty cool but my expectations never got too high. Usually I find a way to pick UND in the bracket but I couldn't do it this year.

They have the chance to keep it pretty close seeding wise.

    Me:

    Albany

    1. Mich vs. 16 AIC

    8. The Q. 9 The Irish

    Wooster:

    2. Mankato vs. 15 Harvard

    7. UND vs. 11 Mass

    Allentown:

    3. Western vs. 14 NE

    6. Goldy vs. 10 SCSU

    Loveland:

    4. Denver vs. 13 Lowell

    5. Duluth vs. 12 Tech

This was my first guess too except I have Western Michigan's group in Albany and Michigan's group in Allentown.

To me it basically comes down to whether they want to put UND/ND & Minnesota/UMass together or UND/UMass & Minnesota/St.Cloud together. I think whether we get UMass or not probably determines whether we are in Worcester or Albany.

  4. Got a workout in this morning, got some groceries, picked up some pizza, little time outside, play with my 1 year old niece who is visiting for the weekend, watched/watching NCAA Tournament games, high school games, and will put Minnesota/Michigan on one TV. Honestly not a whole lot different than if UND won except UND game would be on my big TV and MN/Mich would mix in with NCAA games on the other one.

  5. Love the Correa signing even though it is basically a one year deal.

Need to make a move for one of those Oakland starters. Have some depth to deal from with Larnach, Sabato, Cavaco, Martin, Lewis, Wallner, etc as position players.

Haven't heard much about Max Strand from Roseau on this board. Just won Mr. Hockey in MN. Has 6 pts in the NAHL since HS season is over. Is there any interest?

I'm honestly kind of shocked he won Mr. Hockey. I watched Roseau 3 times and he was solid but didn't jump off the screen like you'd expect a sure fire D1 guy to. Kind of lets things come to him and sometimes that just doesn't happen where the top guys you usually see them go out and make it happen.

So did Jonny Tychonick’s decision to head to Omaha to increase his offensive production work out? Stats say no.

Speaking of familiar names with poor stats, Ryder Donovan …  Yikes.

I was a big fan of Donovan and disappointed to lose him. I think it is obvious the Wisconsin system holding him back :D

  8. If there is a team or two that you'd like to be on the opposite side of the bracket and not face until the national championship who are they?

I think right now mine would be Minnesota and Denver.

Would Warroad and Hermantown win their respective sections if they played up to AA?

Some years for sure. This year Warroad would've played Moorhead and Hermantown would've faced Andover. Warroad and Moorhead tied 4-4 during the regular season while Hermantown and Andover did not play. I would probably take Hermantown but Andover is playing their best hockey at the right time.
